I'm excited for a bunch of these. Especially visions of Mana and Metaphor.
According to steam Etheria: Restart is coming in 2024. Know very little about it but the art style is nice and it is a turn based jrpg
No doubt about it, it's a fantastic time to be an RPG fan! I'm cautiously optimistic about Ys X, Dragon Age, and Trails. Probably most excited for Metaphor Refantazio. Playing through SMT V: Vengeance right now and it's fantastic.
I’m all in for sky trilogy currently finishing off sky but I think I’m on the last chapter 😮😁 having a blast 2 more games to go!
I envy you, as I do wish I could forget all 10 games, go back to Sky FC and play them all again and fall in love with it all over again.
Oh man I thought Visions of mana was the remake of the PS1 Legend of Mana. Great video btw!
Thanks for the update! There's a ton of exciting games coming out this year. I'm most hyped for Ys, Trails, Mana, and the new Dragon Age. I appreciate the coverage of Metroidvanias as well. After RPGs Metroidvania is my second favorite genre.
I'm so pumped for Ys X: Nordics! There's so many JRPGs coming out in the future, we're incredibly lucky as JRPG fans.
Your intro hit the nail on the head. I wasn't aware of the sheer amount of RPGs we are getting! The ones im most excited that you featured were: Gestalt Steam and Cinder, Dungeons of Hinterberg, Bloomtown, and Fantasy Life. Hoping to finish a few more RPGS by then and try out the Trails series.
So many games that’s I’m interested in 👀 this was a very good breakdown video I like ur editing style also
This second half of the year is unreal!!
I wish listed Gestalt: Steam & Cinder on steam early 2020 and didn't realized its release date was so soon, it's going to be hard to get the time to play even a portion of these exciting new releases this year.
I have a pretty good plan on how I can play alot of these games! Lots to do with side gaming!
As a huge Falcom fan, us getting a new Trails game AND a new Ys game has me giddy. Quite excited for Visions of Mana as well. Metaphor: ReFantazio looks interesting, and part of me wants to check out Shin Megami Tensei V, but I’ve heard those games are brutally difficult, and I’m admittedly kind of a weenie when it comes to turn based RPGs
I played SMT V on Switch, and it wasn't so much difficult as it was excessively grindy. And I mean super grindy by the worst old school JRPG standards. I bought DLCs that gave you a way to easily farm infinite gold and some other resources. Sorry, it's been a while, I don't quite remember which resources they were. Long story short, the difficulty goes away with P2W DLCs 😅
Based on what I played, the leveling ramp's been significantly improved in SMT V: Vengeance, especially if you love side questing! Lots more opportunities to get better demons and I haven't had to grind that much! Just lots of exploring!
I have collected just about all the Ys games but have never finished any of them 😅
Looking forward to YS X Nordics, Visions of Mana, and Reynatis
Amazing video as usual, I’m a big RPG fan so will be picking up all of the switch games at some point. Looking forward to Y’s X and hopefully Decapolice. I restarted playing Shin Megami Tensei V on Lenovo Legion go it plays really smoothly, thanks for the great information 💎
You’re welcome! SMTV V has been running really well on my PS5 as well! I’ve no doubt the pc version looks and runs great too!
LOVE Kingdom Come: Deliverance! Hope more and more people get to experience this game before the sequel comes out!
My wallet is crying essentially for rest of summer now this hoooo boi
As a consumer, I am also flabbergasted 😂😅. I always appreciate these videos and your insights & opinions on upcoming games. Cheers Alex
Gonna start playing SMTV Vengeance soon. I think Cat Quest 3 looks like something I could play with my kids. I'm also looking forward to Reynatis and demonschool.
Thanks Alex!
I actually just started Elden Ring this week. I figure there's a shot I can get the DLC on sale by the time I feel ready to start it. 😂
Visions of Mana and Metaphor are my most anticipated games from this list.
Cat Quest 3 is also one I'm watching. The first two were cute and fun.
All great choices! I myself can’t wait for Visions of Mana and Metaphor!
Thank you for being a sane voice within the loud craziness and negativity surrounding Dragon Age The Veilguard.
People just love drama more than playing games. And they wonder why they have a massive backlog LOL
The only one I'm really looking forward to is Ys 10. I love Ys 8 and 9 and I've played 3 or 4 other Ys games as well, so I keep an eye on the series.
I am looking forward to Gestalt, but I did buy the Metroidvania Humble Bundle not long ago, so it will be a while before I buy and play Gestalt as I work through those first.
Also looking forward to Visions of Mana. Always been a fan of the Mana series, and after the Trials remake I have high hopes for Visions.
I love the Ys series, so Ys X is my most anticipated game at the moment.
After those big 3:
I suppose I should mention Trails. I'm currently on Azure and have all of Cold Steel and later to catch up on. New Trails does not matter to me at this point. Happy for the big fans of the series that they are getting timely localizations though.
I am also interested in Enotria. I only just heard of this yet it's coming out so soon.
Black Myth Wukong looks pretty good. I mean, it's an action RPG like so many others but it seems well executed. I'll wait on reviews and recommendations. Also love the shoutout to Saiyuki: Journey to the West.
I know Witchspring R has been out on PC, where I'll be playing it. Just haven't had the chance yet.
Mira - First I heard of this one as well. But Metroidvania always gets my attention if nothing else.
Reynatis trailers look really good as well. but Furyu always disappoints. Not dismissing out of hand, but definitely not a high priority for me.
Metal Slug Tactics... I like the look of it. But let's be honest here, I've got decades of tactical RPGs to eventually catch up on. If I play this it will be years in the future.
I feel like I'm a bit fatigued with Furyu games myself, but I'd be willing to give that a shot!
can't wait for daybreak . ys 10 nordics , metaphor and decapolice. But i also want to try the smaller titles like Demonschool and witchspring r. 2024 is jam packed! and i don't know if i can keep up , but then again i've said that the last few years now.😂😂😅😅
I can't keep up with all these games, man!!!!
Im hype for Visions of Mana ! Are u getting the collector’s edition ?
I don’t know yet! I don’t earn a lot of money as a full time TH-camr, so we shall see! It looks really really good though!
For me Top 5 here are:
Shin Megami Tensei V: Vengeance
Shadow of the Erdtree
Metaphor ReFantazio
Yx X: Nordics
Visions of Mana
Shoutout to Metal Slug Tactics, Avowed, and Zenless Zone Zero
As if this list isn’t enough to be excited about, there’s also things like Darkest Dungeon II making the jump from PC to consoles next month and titles like AI Limit from the China Hero Project supposedly still targeting a 2024 release. Anyone who says there’s no games (let alone RPGs) this year either isn’t paying attention or is purposely not looking!
Gonna bite the bullet and get Metaphor day one. Atlus is usually scummy on the dlc prices but their games usually hit and this new IP has me too intrigued. Reynatis is on my radar but not sure if I'll get it day one or wait.
I agree that both Atlus and SEGA have been trying to milk us with their DLCs - but as long as we stand firm and not get them, we're sending a strong message that we won't abide by it! That said, I can't wait for Metaphor!
What! No mention of Sky Oceans the spirtual successor to Skies of Arcadia coming out this september!? For pc, switch, ps5 ect. There is a demo for it out now on steam.
Yea there is got lot Of different Games for people try . I wonder what square enix will have for the later half of the year
I'm glad I'm not the only Dragon Age and Bioware fan looking forward to The Veilguard, it looks so good. Also, now I have a reason to play Inquisition.
I can't bring myself play the monkey king game on principle due to what I heard about the development company I believe to be true.
Greedfall 2 I didn't even know there was gameplay to see. I still need to finish the first anyway. Flintlock looks really cool, also need to play Ashen still.
"Fantasy Life (Aye) I?" I thought it was Fantasy Life "One."
Heavy year for me:
Trails Through Daybreak
Ys X: Nordics
Metaphor: ReFantazio
Dragon Age: The Veilguard
Shin Megami Tensei V: Vengeance
Greedfall 2
Reynatis
Visions of Mana
and (possibly) Decapolice
We are living in a new Golden Age of RPGs. And Expedition 33 reveal suggests that it won't be slowing down anytime soon. Especially if Square-Enix really is putting out Final Fantasy Tactics Remaster and Final Fantasy IX Remake anytime soon.
The Nintendo Directs have the official pronunciations for games since the publishers send in their parts of the videos, like LIVE A LIVE (say: Live Alive). And in the February 2023 Direct, "i" was pronounced as "Aye."
@BacklogBattle that's just a weird title. Though, not the weirdest I've heard.
Some games you missed and games I'm also looking forward to:
Veritus July 22 (has a demo)
Rune Fencer Illyria Release unknown?
Sheep Lad Release unknown
Episode Aigis?Aegis for persona 3 reload Sept 10(I might watch a lets play of it not spending $105 or may wait for a sale)
while not a rpg I really want to play Beyond Shadowgate. Release soon?
Maybe Heart Forth, Alicia will get a release this year?
Also World of horror is still getting updates, eventually?
I’ll keep an eye out on the others, but I wanted to include the games confirmed with a release window of 2024 at least!
This list highlights the biggest problem with JRPGs right now: they are coming out way faster than we have time to play them. From the first half of this year, I got to Persona 3 Reload, but didn't get to a bunch of other games I wanted to play, mostly because there were other games I wanted to play more. I haven't played Like a Dragon Infinite Wealth yet, after I finished Yakuza Like a Dragon last December. Second half of this year, I will definitely get to Trails through Daybreak on release day, and Visions of Mana and Y's 10 eventually, and Metaphore ReFantazio somewhere down the line.
I don't understand how the pros can even keep up. Just how do you find the time to play so many games?
Gestalt is fun but the demo is broken once you get past the flashback section :(
I'm glad you're also excited for Dragon Age Veilguard. I wasn't a fan of Inquistion's TOO open world so I'm glad this next one's scaling back. Linear Dragon Age is BEST Dragon Age imo 😃
I have it on good authority that the open world is still there, but it's done a lot better than Inquisition!
@@BacklogBattle Oh, I didn't mean there shouldn't be ANY open world at all so I'm glad to hear that! 😍
Rebirth can’t be topped it’s too good
Something already topped it for me, but it cannot be denied that it's a really good game!
I like the channel but HO BOY, given by the backlash is fair to say that new Dragon Age will bring Bioware to anything but bankrupcy xD... by far the vast majority of fans are NOT happy about the current state of the game shown... only time will tell but I would keep the hopes very low instead of this high.... I will come back in the future, lets see how this comment... ages xD
That's the thing - I don't ever listen to everyone else's opinion about games because I know that people are just loud. So when I say that I like how the game looks and how it plays, it's not influenced by other people's bias. And while my comment about this game being BioWare's return to glory may age poorly, I stand by what I said because it comes from me and not everyone else!
Great to see games like Trails Through Daybreak and Ys X getting relatively snappy localizations and western releases!
I hope they can keep up with the quality! Trails games can be super wordy
