This was so inspiring. It's been so difficult trying to find my own style and worrying about if I was doing things right. When you said "[the students] have been waiting for you" I cried a little. Thank you for this beautiful video.

Thank you for your positivity! I just had a bad day in my student teaching and cried in front of my students. Your videos always help me get through tough weeks when I feel teaching isn't for me or when I dont feel like I'm a good teacher. Keep spreading your positivity, God bless ❤
P.S. Can you make video on classroom management and how to deal with discipline issues?

“You’re nervous because you’re excited.” I couldn’t help but cry at this because I start my student teaching in January, but I have been teaching warm ups since I was a junior. They are so many days I question my self worth as a teacher and I wonder if I am worthy to be teacher. I am so very excited for student teaching, but I am nervous as well. Thank you so much for this video and the reminder that they are student waiting for me!

having heard your story as student teacher made me realize the guilt inside me when i was one of the intern. I was a working student then, making my student teaching experience the most horrible part of my study. I could have learn more and explored the real thing in teaching but i didn't. now i'm a public school teacher for six years already and i am still in finding myself how to love teaching. Because of your story, i am more motivation to keep myself away from giving up. i have to build my passion and experience it with my pupils. hope to watch more inspiring insights about your thoughts in our profession and shed light upon the misconception of teaching.
Thanks Brittany. God Bless all your work. Keep moving.

Thank you for being so encouraging! I just started student teaching in August and it has been so difficult! With the pandemic, no one really knows what to do, so my mentor teacher and the rest of our team has been winging it daily. We transitioned half of our students from virtual to in-person last week. They are the best part of my day! Even though I have been at it for a month, I feel like I am failing because there is no structure, and I do not know how I can be of more help for my mentor teacher. Everyday is a new challenge, and I have college classes and work ontop of it. If this is what the rest of the year will be like (I am student teaching for a full year in the same palcement), I don't know how I will get through it.

I'm literally watching this as I finished my first student teaching block. And I can agree 100000% with everything you said. Im going through a really similar experience where my teacher is a lot more traditional. In my first few weeks of observing I was constantly writing down what I saw that I didn't like and how I would personally do it differently. And that reflection part every day really pays off. Im super stoked to return for my second block in January!

You're so positive! I am just finishing up my 115 required observation hours (NY state) and I'm about to start student teaching full time while still taking master's classes at night, writing my edTPA portfolio, and taking my two cert exams. Needless to say I am incredibly stressed and burnt out...sometimes with all the red tape/state hoops to jump through it's hard to remember why I wanted to teach in the first place 😩 Thanks for spreading your light & I love when you do teacher-content videos like this! (love your self-care videos too... during this busy season of my life it's difficult for me to make myself a priority!)

Coming to this video a little late! Student teaching was great, but I definitely had my rough days. One day I went to one of my two mentor teachers and crying because of something that had happened. She was very sweet and told me that I am growing as a teacher and the fact that I was crying meant I cared. Now that i am done, it seems like such a long time ago! I wish I had asked more questions to my two teachers, but over all it was amazing!

I really liked this video. I’m 15 (almost 16) and basically have not a slightest clue on what I want to be when I “grow up”. But for a while, I was thinking of maybe being a high school teacher (specifically for dance or computer science). I don’t know for sure, but watching how the process goes really helps me and i know if I still have this feeling, I’ll come back to it in the future! I’m an active TH-camr (not on this channel though) so I guess you could say I kind of have experience with teaching and presenting to others. But I guess what really is holding me back is the fact that I am *extremely shy* . But yeah, I’ve been considering to be a teacher for a while so I’ll definitely look back at this possibly in the future if a teacher is definitely who I want to be :)

I finished student teaching in Year 1 (6 year olds) and I honestly loved it. AHAHA.. YESSSS. I asked my mentor so many questions too (I was so afraid that she'd get tired of me) and I got quite close to her too. I got to teach a starter and a lesson too. SAMEEE. I observed my mentor too and I assisted my mentor around the classroom too. I just hope I can get her as my mentor again in my final practicum in 2021 March.

Thankyou for this video! I'm currently finishing the 3rd year of my teaching degree, next year is my final year and when we do all our big placements and student teaching. Although I'm excited I'm very nervous because I feel like I haven't really learnt much about actually teaching my subjects (music and English, high school in Australia) and that I'm going to go in to the classroom expected to know how to teach but having really no idea! I've already done two placements, one week each, but they were just observation and we had no chance to actually teach anything. Hearing your experiences made me feel better about the whole thing, I hope that I get a good mentor teacher and that my placements are successful, fingers crossed!

Thank you so much for your rawness and honesty- I really needed to hear it. I was completing my student teaching this fall and was gearing up to graduate this December, but a big, unexpected wrench was thrown in my plans. I got dismissed from student teaching on 10/31. Long story short, I wasn't progressing as fast as they were expecting and there were some miscommunication and misunderstanding between all parties involved. I've also been experiencing some health issues physically, mentally, and emotionally. This event has really discouraged me because my supervisor and principal said I didn't have the personality that fits the role of a teacher and that "teaching is a calling- you either have it or you don't." I am definitely not trying to bash them as I respect their decision, but I have been conflicted about what to do and where to go from here. I've been questioning my ability, so I have been navigating other options and careers. Receiving encouragement from your videos has inspired me to rise above the doubters and adversity. I still feel like I belong in a classroom, but I'm continuing to pray about it and the next steps that I should take

Alexis Angel I am feeling sorry for you to hear your story! I don’t think It’s either something you have or haven’t got. I think with the right coaching, most people can learn how to teach / develop the necessary skills to teach. I wonder if there’s a possibility for you to do another internship? Here in the Netherlands you complet 2-4 different internships on 2-4 different schools before graduating. This means you will also meet different mentors and assessors along the way. So you are not dependent on two people who ‘don’t think you have it’. It would be a pity if this would be the only option for you! (If you still want to teach). and remember, everyone has a talent - you just have to find yours. Good luck!

Hopefully a year from now, I can come back to this comment and let you know I made it and am graduating or student teaching.

Although it took me two years, I just finished my first week of the beginning of my student teaching semester! I’ve passed the 2/3 exams I need for my certification on my first attempt. I just wanted to say that I’ve been following you since I was in High School and you are one of the lovely people who inspired me to pursue this career, so thank you! I hope to be a teacher like you soon.

I'm not sure what to comment, but I want to say something and I definitely want to leave a comment to support, so here goes.
I was 100% sure for the first seventeen years of my life that I was going to get a job as a cafe owner/manager. I was going to open my own business and make foods for people with allergies because growing up, there weren't any for me.
Then I took a Spanish class as a dual-enrolled student. I really did NOT want to take that class. But, surprisingly, I ended up loving the teacher and took Spanish 2 with the same professor the next semester.
I got 3 concussions that second semester, which led to brain damage that meant I could only focus for 15 minutes at a time, and due to the migraine level pain and severe anxiety I developed from that, existing was really, really painful 99.9% of the time.
That .1% was any time I tutored another student in Spanish. Through the Spanish Club, Spanish 2 Student Me became a peer tutor for the Spanish 1 students, and then a study group leader for my fellow classmates.
Tutoring was the only thing that didn't hurt my head in a year where absolutely everything broke my head.
I was excited to take Spanish 3 the next semester. It was canceled. I was sad, but decided to try my hand at tutoring again. Turns out, it's the one thing that consistently brings me joy no matter what. Even when I'm really struggling in every area of life, tutoring is one thing I always love.
None of my teachers want me to be a teacher, because they want me to have a better life than they do. One will argue that I'll never have enough money. I never cared about the money. I trust God will provide. Another will say that I'll be limiting myself to teaching if I pursue education. Maybe, yeah, but God can provide. I've seen Him do amazing things, and I know He can do anything.
I don't know what my plans are, but I do know I can't wait to see God's plans for me. Cause they're a guaranteed, beautiful future.
I guess this comment is just me asking for prayer, and sharing my story. Will you join me in praying about my future? And, how can I pray for you?
    I love you! ♡

I just finished student teaching (My first placement - 2 modules into one) I advice you to observe your mentor teacher as much as you can, if it's your first placement. If it's your first placement then get your mentor's advice as much as possible.

I’ll be doing my student teaching next fall. I’m starting to get nervous/excited about it! My fear is having a disconnect with the classroom teacher or him/her leaving me on my own the entire experience. I really hope it’s more of a co-teaching experience in which they give me more autonomy as the weeks go by. I am the type to be more than prepared for things but that is still a fear I have for my first ever teaching experience! Thank you for this video :)
