Or just buy Shout Advanced grease busting foam. Spray it on, wait 10 minutes and rewash it. It takes out most oil stains even if they've gone through the dryer once or twice. Just don't spray it on and leave it there more than 10 or 15 minutes or it will take the color out of your fabric. Spoken from personal experience.
thanks - just used this to remove adhesive stains from expensive Patagonia shorts - we had tried all the normal stuff - this worked first time. thanks very much
I am literally at the store purchasing this! I have a custom made sweater and walked in on my boyfriend making dinner and got splashed with oil :’) So excited to try this hearing all the great comments!
This worked so well!! They were bad (bacon grease) and are completely gone now. I made sure to scrub the toothbrush in another bowl of clean baking soda so it would be clean each time I scrubbed a new spot. And used a ton of extra baking soda and rubbed it around with my fingers for a few minutes too too. My shirt was dark green and idk the material but it's time and tru (Walmart) probably cotton or cotton poly blend. Also I used just a teeny bit of wd40 barely even wet the fabric with it. I had this shirt for months in my closet because it's my favorite go to concealed carry shirt I couldnt get rid if it. Thanks so much.
Saw the no of problems highlighted here with using WD40 so I'm guessing this is a very strong product. Actually, I've been using a squirt or two of dishwashing detergent, then a tspn baking soda and scrub, with layer of cupboard below clothing and it works - no need WD40 at all!
You never throw a freshly stand oil shirt in the washer... Either use cornstarch or baby powder.... When it first happens.... It'll absorb some of the oil.... Dawn/OxiClean/carbonated water..... Will get oil stains out....
This works really well! I've now used this on a sweatshirt and a winter jacket that had motor oil and diesel stains respectively. The only thing I'd add is to be careful because some fabrics will pill if you rub too hard with the toothbrush. My jacket is thick and can't go in the wash. For that, I followed the video but didn't use the dish soap. Once I was done with the baking powder I just scrubbed the section with a wet toothbrush a couple of times then immediately used a wet/dry vacuum to remove the excess water.
I have a hoodie that has stains on it and I don't know from where. It looked like the ones in the video but im not for sure.its 100% cotton will this method work it's my favorite hoodie
Tried this on a beige Nike Sweatshirt. It took out most of the oil stains but there was one that didn’t come out. It honestly just depends how much you scrub with baking soda. The WD40 didn’t ruin anything, you just have to apply the baking soda a lot of times! I would post pics to prove it if I could! Trust the process ! If I had time I would go back and repeat for the stain that didn’t come out, I’m sure it would. I also washed with hot water and oxi clean detergent cause why not haha
I have always tried your method on trousers and also lately on a jacket made of cotton with clear colors and it worked perfectly fine. I’m wondering if it would work in removing sunscreen cream yellow stains from a white shirt. Any ideas ? Thanks
Well that explains why this trick didn't work when I heard of it the first time years ago (from a book). I didn't use enough baking soda! I just sprinkled some on the WD-40, rubbed it in and put dishwashing liquid on it. I'm going to try again, and use _much more_ baking soda, because I want to wear my favorite pink sweatshirt again that I just couldn't bear to throw away.
Hello @lalalisette I would like to thank you sooooo much for your tutorial because you just saved my brand new TAD GEAR Recon RS tactical trousers from being thrown away! I have stained them badly with (I think not so sure 😅) WD-40 or some other oily stuff, when I was working in my garage and I didn’t notice it until I was home! I tried to scrub them with olive oil soap and washed them right after that (done this for a couple of times) and it didn’t work out at all. A week after I saw your video tutorial, I followed it exactly like you explained and now I’m the happiest guy on the planet 😂😂😂 I have my fancy tactical trouser like new !!! Thank you soooo much ❤❤❤ I saved your video for the future , you never know it might happen again 🤭🤭🤭
RINSE TOOTHBRUSH IN DAWN OR GREASE RELEASING DETERGENT BETWEEN SCRUBBING AND RESCRUBBING SO YOU ARENT REINTRODUCING OIL SOAKED BAKING SODA RESIDUE FROM TOOTHBRUSH BACK INTO SAME SPOTS.
In an office, I believe the worst stain is the ballpoint pen (bic) as it's oil based ink! Not like most gel and roller ball pens as most are water based like fountain pens! Now most _"car"_ stains are oil based, even the sump oil has detergent in it to indicate there's water present - shouldn't be - thus should be easy to remove than other car oils/grease!
I have done this multiple times and with no exaggeration, I did not take this long or let it sit for 15 minutes. I also do just one good application and scrubbing with the baking soda. This seems like excessive time wasted.
Next time try dishwashing liquid, the makers are not kidding when they say it's tough on grease. Works by pouring on a good amount STRAIGHT and start washing with your hands, then pour on about a tablespoon or two of water to keep the liquid thick while continuing to hand wash for about 5-10 minutes making sure you get all the areas, then rinse and like magic its ALL GONE. Again, hand wash only, don't use a brush its useless. I initially washed it in the washer then dried it in the dryer and it looked worse so I thought the stain had set in beyond repair, but it didn't matter the dishwashing liquid/hand washing method is simply magical and I came so close to throwing the pants away.
I’m scared to try more oil on oil but i hope it removes my lipstick stains, i left it in my pockets and my bf never checks the pockets. Now he’s banned from doing laundry.
THE REASON YOU MUST PUT A PIECE OFCARDBOARD OR EVEN A PAPER PLATE OR A DISPOSABLE PLASTIC CUTTING MAT FROM DOLLAR STORE UNDER YOUR STAIN IS TO PREVENT THE OIL FROM TRANSFERRING WICKING ONTO CLOTH UNDERNEATH
This is great! I have a few shirts that have been washed and dried and my spot-treating didn't work. No WD40 here, but I'm thinking olive or veg oil applied with a Q-Tip would work just as well to reactivate the stain.
Not worth all that mucking around and stress and ruining your clothes, just buy a pre-wash spray, and follow instruction, and put in washing machine using warm water, easy.
I started to watch🤦🏻♂️...as it was playing, I was shaking my head in disbelief. So I ran to the bathroom to grab the oxi-clean. My shorts are now streated & self-cleaning. Sooooo much easier! Lol

I wear the same shirt now everytime I deep fry or cook. It's got oil stains on it as battle scars & never cared about it.
What is WD Stain remover? We do not get it in India, can you please suggest an alternative?
Glacial acitic acid instead of wd40 just apply acitic acid on stains let it dry then regular laundry
OK can I use vinegar, which is after all acetic acid ?
@@Mahadevan760 vinegar contains only 4 to 5 % of acitic acid better to use acitic acid by itself

I sold a vintage dress and it has a stain on it and I never noticed the stain. I pray to heaven that this works . Wish me luck y’all
Im going to try this i have some jeans that have big stains I don’t wear them anymore so whats the worse than can happen lol
Why did you put WD40 in the spoon, and then proceeded to use the Straw directly? What was the difference?
She was demonstrating how it can be done if your wd40 doesn't come with a straw.
Hi. Does it have to be WD40? My stains are from olive oil, so can it be treated with olive oil instead, or any kind of oil?
no, that won't work. WD40 has solvent in it...(by now you've bought new clothing) 😊
From what I’ve heard do not buy WD40
Use food spray oil eg. canola.
This video came in very clutch for me!
What is the purpose of the music in the background? It is dificult to hear what you say
Omg people do not put WD40 on your clothes 🙄
