  • Kara-nuri is one of Tsugaru-nuri techniques. Colorful speckles on glossy surface of lacquer ware is easily recognizable. Same technique is used on fountain pens. But the technical principle of kara-nuri is the same as many other techniques, which sometimes differ only by tools used. I show the process of preparing urushi for this technique, describe the structure of layers and share some formulas.
Most pens I show are for sale, and the best way to buy them is to check out my Instagram and send me a message there. There are usually some pens stock and you can find them here : tamenuri.com/s...

I'm Michael and I'm a fountain pen addict. I lacquer pens with urushi lacquer. I make fountain pens. On my channel, you fill find tutorials, videos from my urushi workshop, presentation of techniques, tools and materials used in urushi craft. I am also showing pens lacquered by me and other artists. I review pens but mostly urushi and I focus on this aspect of a pen, not usual build, nibs and writing performance.
I am self-taught in this craft, most I know I do I learned from my own experience, trial and error. A lot of them. But also from Japanese books, and videos on urushi and other urushi artists.

I am looking forward to experimenting. Meticulous planning essential. Patience is something I will really have to work on. Again, thanks for sharing.

Fascinating! I love the combination of traditional craft/artistry and experimentation with form/design. 🥳😍❤️

That is something what appeals to me most in urushi. But I know that to be good at experiments and breaking the „rules” I need to master the traditional techniques too.

I love the colors and I am just getting started in Urushi pen making. What is the best or easiest way to cure Urushi?

You need a furo. I made a video on this. Urushi cures in hight humidity.

    Hi,
    Can you laquer Smart Rings?
It might pose difficult not to damage the technology inside the ring.
    Greetings from Germany,
    Batthias
