The mountain at 2:00 is the Matterhorn (in front of my hometown). The white is snow, or to be more precise it's glaciers (centuries old ice sheets). At that altitude, the snow gets compacted to ice and builds up over the years since it (mostly) doesn't melt in summer. With climate change the ice has been receding, however...
Swiss here. Pls wear solid shoes when going into our mountains. So many times people underestimate the terrain and then get stuck or even get injured and then our rescue teams have to go out in storms and really bad weather and search for tourists that have not paid enough respect to mother nature and mountains in particular. Btw. bad weather may come around really quickly in the mountains. With quickly I mean within a half hour or so.
This is the most important. The amount of peopel walking around in flipflops even is way too high. Make sure the shoes also stabilize the ankle (very important). Packing good clothes is a must too, always take a waterproof jacket or something similar as it can get cold or start raining very quickly The mountain trails are usually very visibly marked and have different markings depending on the difficulty. Make sure to check in a tourist office or the internet before heading out. also stay on these designated routes and don't walk 'off-road' as this is wildly dangerous. You can get stuck easily or fall down a cliffside you didn't see. Don't pluck flowers, as they're often endangered and don't try to pet the wildlife. (Even if Marmots are cute) Also don't pet the cows!! There's way too many injuries and even deaths due to angry cows each year because people wanted to go pet the 'nice cow'.
@@Aurirang Thank you so much for really hitting all the necessities that a person should do when hiking in the mountains. I would add to take all the trash back with you and leaave the place as pristine as you have found it.
@ So true! Keep the mountains clean! :D Another little attendum: pack enough water, because you'll sweat ALOT when hiking. There's often clean running water from springs to refill but one shouldn't bank on it. On a similar line, always take some cereal bars, bananas or similar, sweet things along because sugar crash is a thing and quite dangerous, especially when hiking alone. Fruit sugar-drops can be used as well, but i only use those for a really bad drop. Or to just keep energy levels up, because hiking is quite taxing on the body.
Brotha... The white stuff is snow ofc 😂 At altitude there's so much of it it takes well into spring if not early summer for it to melt. Well... at least everything that's not a glacier which obv is there year round.
I'm a Swiss (hiking) loner as well. The best spots in the mountains are found far away from the touristic areas shown in those TH-cam Videos. You can just pick a small village and go hiking wherever you like....
Also cool are all the different activities you can enjoy in the alps... Not just skiing and hiking... Canyon swinging, night rodeling, yak-trekking, airboarding, tobogganing, flying a paraglider, bungy jumping, rafting, bikeboarding... There are alpine funparks too ♡
Just a quick offer: If you feel like you finished the switzerland videos you can post a list of questions you still have in the communitytab or let me know somehow else. I feel like the swiss in the comments will answer all questions ask in the videos but mabe you get more questions latter on. I would make a Video just to answer those question from the view of a 26 years old swiss, thats works for the government and had to fight cancer as a 14 year old. I think I can give pretty solid information about our government, the healthcare and how live is in general here or at least Im able to get the information needed pretty quickly.

Hi there! Yes, the snow is real, it's hard to see perspectively, but that mountain behind Rick Stevens is more like almost three miles high. At higher altitudes, the temperature usually drops considerably. Where Rick walks it can be as much as 20 degrees warmer than on top of the mountain you see. Mostly, except for very hot summers, the snow stays intact during the whole year on that altitude.
2:00 The white is snow and ice. In some places, the snow and ice doesn't melt all year round. But as it gets warmer and warmer, more and more is melting away.
12:29 bottom third there is this white roof. My freinds and i go there a weekend every year. It has one of the biggest Whiskey Bar worldwide with over 2500 diff. Whiskey. :D
@@foreignreacts if you visit and want to save on some cash, east ~ center switzerland is cheaper comparitively to the bigger cities, with them beeing easily accessible by train within 20 - 30 mins
Hey ! about power on train, yes it's taking a lot of power to go up, but since 1960, a lot of train in Switzerland have a system to make energy when they are going down and braking (dynamo). That's give around 30% to 40% of the climing enregy needed. 😉
@kaipeter4409 That train is SLOW! I have never done the whole thing (that's for tourists), but I have done the stretch in the Goms valley above Brig. It takes about 1.5 hours to cover 40km!
The train goes slow on purpose to give people more time to enjoy the scenery. Also some of the route is very steep so the train has to use a cogwheel system and at one point of the route they even have to change the track gauge.
The Music at 10:00 is not traditional. And honestly sounds really shit. Thats just something for tourists. Search something like ''Jodlerklub Wiesenberg'' or something for real traditional swiss music. For example this th-cam.com/video/amYkfJcQ_8E/w-d-xo.html *im no expert
So cliché. That's only a pov from the touristic sightseeing. That's not representative of all switzerland but all swiss recognized that's the beautifulest part
A lot of swiss woman never want to vote, they said: As a Family you need only one vote, it would be rediciulos if a husband and his wife would vote different!
It’s great they have a chance to vote but if they decide not to and as a family it’s best to have one vote It’s totally understandable but guess what they can now vote together and have 2 😁

If you see something white in our Alps, it's either snow or a polar bear. The latter is a bit unlikely.

There are gocarts without engines to ride downhill, at some locations, so your idea of roling downhill on that bench is possible, in a way.
