*I love Voltaire and when I was watching Ask A Mortician's video "Were Books Really Bound in Human Skin" and she mentioned that Voltaire was a fan of Ms. Wheatley and now I have to know more about this incredible woman.*

spoken so lightly, about someone so powerful and a horror so deep as slavery. i really wish when people DO decide to "understand" and "teach" this history of The United States, there's more empathy, passion, suffering, in doing so. New Orleans.

A little girl, barely dressed comes off a ship, the ship’s name was Phillis, the girl was bought by the Wheatleys. The Wheatley’s daughter Susanna taught Phillis to write, then Phillis learned Latin.

She wasn't the first female poet of African descent. She was the first female poet of african descent AS RECOGNISED/DECIDED BY WHITE SETTLER LITERATURE.

      Hi Ella,
You're absolutely right. When I remake this video, that is much more accurate language to use when describing Wheatley's work.

Thank you for this video. It is very hard to find one that does not involve racial undertones and accusations from the person sharing the historical information. We need to learn our history without modern insertions and assumptions added. what an amazing woman. So much to be learned by her and others.
