Welcome to Ellis mowers, where he will demonstrate why you should always get your TH-cam certification for fixing mowers, otherwise you might re-install the starter spring on the wrong end, and the result is that your bendix gear gets eaten up. LOL! I love the power of those V-twins, I just hate working on the Niki carbs. Those stripped fasteners man, what a PITA! That thing is flooding like a Florida beach! Good choice swapping carbs. That Poulan is smiling Ellis hehe. Great job! BTW, I love your jacket, I just got me a modern CH Detroit, its awesome.
Sounds really good now, and it cleaned good for the amount of rust it has. Do you ever ultrasonic clean carbs or just replace them? I really like your channel! 👍🇺🇲
Lol. I learned the hard way about pulling parts off of machines that I have not fully inspected. I have one in my fleet right now that was given to me as parts machine. I was told that it was locked up, and so I just threw it in my back yard and started robbing parts off of it. When I finally got around to stripping it, I found out the engine just needed a valve adjustment. It ran too well to strip, so I spent several months tracking down all of the parts to get it going again. Unfortunately the deck is trashed and I can't find a suitable parts machine. I think I am just going to get this one running and driving as well as it can, and just remove the deck and use this one to haul my trailers.
I had one do the same thing recently. I put a carb on it and it ran great for a couple of hours, and then it just flooded out and filled the engine with gas, right after I changed the oil. smh
This one was an OEM takeoff from another machine and not an aftermarket one. I probably could put a needle in the original one but only wanted to do the job once and I had a good idea that the one I put on it was good.
I have a Troy Bilt with a double stack pulley on the rear end. The machine sat for several years, and when I pulled it out, the pulley was seized. I lubed it up and got it turning, but it is stiffer than it should be. This is the same machine that I mentioned in the other comment, so I don't want to spend any money on it that isn't necessary. Do you know any tricks for getting it to move better?
How do you deal with that popping? What causes it? I have a Briggs 17.5 with a brand new carb that is doing it, and adjusting the carb doesn't make any difference. It also has a new plug and a fresh valve adjustment.
Do you know a cheap and reliable source for John Deere parts? I have an old John Deere that was given to me by a friend of mine. It needs a hood and wiring harness. This is the last remaining machine of mine that doesn't run, but I know it was running when parked. It was given to me by a friend of mine who is in hospice care. I am going to fully restore this machine, but unfortunately I don't have the ability to transport riding mowers right now, so I can't just go pick up a parts machine. I'm not planning on selling this machine, but I don't want to spend more than I have to.

Thank you, yes I do put them in the ultrasonic sometimes especially if they have a lot of varnish buildup.

Where do you get your paint from? A couple of mine could use a touch up, but I have never tried to paint any before.
Just spray paint from the local hardware store.

Vacuum leak maybe, intake manifold?
Could be a tiny bit of water in the fuel too.

I usually get all my stuff off eBay or Amazon. You won't find a new hood for under $300 most likely.
@@EllisMowersandmore Yeah, that's what I was afraid of.
