So I have a string on my chest that I foresee as causing some viewers a lot of distress based on previous comments. We can put this one in the 'Top 10 Most Distracting/Bothersome Loose Threads and Hairs' list! Would it bother a mini brain?
That being said, who would you rather have driving your car if you had to choose, AI or a mini brain? Like 10 years in the future when they are larger. Would it not be vegan to use a mini brain? It's not a animal per se but it is alive!
I thought it was just my ADD, but I'm pleased to learn, everyone else is equally distracted. 😅
@@MictheVegan As silicon brains, aka chips, are going to get both more efficient, faster and more intelligent than biological brains, not to mention so much more _controllable_ this is likely a non-issue.

Are we literally creating immortal beings and then force them to complete meaningless tasks in a computer? What if we create a brain of 20 tons? Would that brain not only be alive, but experience life beyond what we can? Would it be too much intelligence to bear?

@@zenyatta5064 cetaceans are very intelligent animals... ultimately more brain size doesn't necessarily mean more intelligence but also ultimately smaller brain size does mean less tissue which means less potential for intelligence. A well-encoded small brain can bean out a badly encoded large brain but, literally the more neurons the more computational power there is potential for.
@danielkruyt9475 I am jokingly trying to elude to his common misconception that brain size linearly correlates to intelligence.
14:35 I just wanted to point out that having the same brain signature as a 7 or 8 month old fetus is beyond the age of viability. Babies are born premature at that gestational age (28-32 weeks) every day.

I lost count of your 'what ifs' Mic. I knew about mini brains, but since humans have an incredible ability to stuff things up, there's a lot to be wary of. Even if there were more rational beings running around, there's still the problem of US religious right wing folks in the mix these days which Margaret Atwood opines. I heard a podcast earlier in the evening with one 'liberal' (as an Australian this is hilarious since our right wing conservative party is the Liberal Party) against a bunch of conservative students. These kids need mini brain transplants. A young girl saying Kamala Harris slept her way to the top - just painful. Of course there was abortion where 2 cells at conception = a fully conceived human child and the usual misunderstanding of the meanings of socialism and communism. Since they are studying in institutes of higher learning, when does education kick in over propaganda? There's so, so much botheration to contend with, those mini brains potentially have a lot to do!

I dont understand this at all. If we are already at the stage we can have designer babies, why not leave animals alone and have a blueprint for a 'super healthy' and heretic/ gene-based illnesses free, extremely kind, ethically inclined, compassionate, in tune with own body and nature, excellent emotion-regulation, low ego-drive but still with the realisation ego is OK if it isnt the driver seat, and that we are all unique, and that that uniqueness is also a result of (self & family) love & external conditions & upbringing & education & & & & &... hmm. You know? Right?!
Just... Lets remember that just because so many things in Star Trek have come to life we shouldnt focus on humans evolving into Borg 😂

Not really, but just think of the scanners (smartphones with cameras, connected to massive databases) and button sized translators (microphones in our wireless headsets, connected to our smartphones, connected with massive databases, the 'middle-man' through AI based language detection-> listeners-> translation-> output functions, even with live conversation two way translation possibilities in one headset with two earpieces, or two headsets connected to one or two phones etc etc etc). Star Trek is the _real_ Simpsons, cause every time we invent new tech we could say 'Star Trek did it' 😂🎉

@MicTheVegan, for the algo, the dumbest critique ever: There is no such thing as "a whole nother," because there is no such word as "nother." You could say, "wholly another," or, "a whole other." Because of "whole" starting with an 'h' sound, Brits try to throw "an" in front of it, like they do with "hammer," creating "an whole other." That's dumb, unless you are Cockney, where they cut off the consonant 'h'.

I feel like grafting these back on to damaged host brain areas does have promising medical use. Not solely for stroke, but also concussion/TBI. Look st the TBI subreddit... post-concussion syndrome can be debilitating - many people get to a point of wanting to end their lives. Also for brain tumours being able to remove and replace tissue. Idk, this concept has promise as well as many issues, and also is still quite creepy lol.
I was implanted with one of these mini brains a few years ago, I feel I am progressing well - now rivialing Elon musk in intelligence as I hit the double digits.

I guess you’ve heard about the Blue Zone “fraud” controversy. Clarifiction would be appreciated.
We've known for decades that people in the Blue Zones live longer than average, the carnivore crowd getting butthurt over it doesn't make it fraud.
From what I read the issue was that there was some errors when it came to reporting the ages. Though it does not really change much of anything since there are numerous factors that allows one to live a long healthy life. The Blue Zones are not magic just that there are a number of factors that contribute to a healthier and longer lifestyle.
@@dereklucks4549 Much more misreporting than just ages. Waters are pretty well muddied IMHO. I agree that it isn’t difficult to work out how to live a healthy life, but aiming for 100 might be unreasonable. Pushback from the status qup gang will have new energy.
