I appreciate y'all's conversation. Especially asking how you handle the push back, particularly for the viewers that also receive push back - that's really hard, particularly when it's personal.

Fantastic episode, great nuanced conversation on these topics. Laurie has a great way of pressing into heart-level motivations and asking good questions to explore them. Also is this other dude in the comments a literal bot?

I appreciated this conversation. A few things. I have listened to Preston quite a bit, but you have to listen a lot to get a better picture of what he actually believes. I believe Preston tends to muddy the waters in his beliefs, but it could be because he invites more of a variety of opinions on his podcast and doesn’t push back much. I don’t believe Childers, Yuan, or Butterfield are trying to build a platform off criticism of Preston. Back to a main point…language and terms. If teachers don’t understand that terms are extremely important, then I think they are going to be a disservice to God ‘s kingdom in how we disciple believers coming out of lgbtq lifestyles or worldviews. This is why the pushback on CRU is important…they need to get things right, especially when it comes to their staff.

      Bingo!
      Great comment right here.
Words matter… saying people are afraid of language distracts from the point… there’s no such thing as a “gay Christian” just as there’s no such thing as a “murdering Christian” or a “robber Christian” - we don’t define Christian’s by their sin… such WERE some of you…

Ministry - partnership is probably the right term and only reliable motivation on both parties to do the right thing 🔵

Zoom sometimes automatically puts up balloons or something if it thinks someone is giving a thumbs up or raising a band or other gesture. It's an annoying automatic feature.

To me it's completely mystifying why anybody with the least self-respect would want to be part of a church like that. The fact that some (not all) Christians struggle with not judging despite obvious advice from their bible "do not judge lest you be judged" etc, etc, blah, blah, blah is absolutely extraordinary to me as practicing Hindu in a legacy christian country!
Furthermore and even more to the point is the fact that a great many Christian denominations following the LIBERAL CHRISTIAN TRADITION ALREADY PERFORM SAME SEX MARRIAGE AND SO IT'S PROBABLY A HELL OF A LOT EASIER FOR THOSE GAY CHRISTIANS, etc to join those Christian communities from the get go and bypass the rest and just NOT get involved in THEIR DRAMAS and THEIR STRUGGLES! Go where you're best treated!
By contrast in the Vedic/Sanatana Dharma/Hindu tradition their is absolutely no prohibition against Gay relationships and USA Mandirs (Hindu Temples) perform same sex marriage ceremonies and very much encourage full acceptance of sexual minorities.
Not all Mandirs in all parts of the world take the same view and so sexual minorities may well be faced with having to look elsewhere if their needs are not accommodated more locally.
It will be interesting to see how Mandirs in THAILAND respond to the new Same Sex Marriage laws coming into effect there this October 2024!

Vedic/Sanatana Dharma/Hindu tradition is unrepresentative of the Indian peoples. After all, there are those of the Muslim faith which has material prohibitions against gay relationships. Moreover, India remains a very conservative nation. The progressive bastion in India that is same-sex positive is restricted to Lutyenites, such as the justices of the Indian Supreme Court. Finally, as you rightly point out, the religious practices of the mandirs in the US do not represent the cultural practices of the Indian mandirs. Thankfully so. We have been colonized twice. Why should we assent to be colonized by White American Imperial thought and practices? One need look at how colonizing American Empire privileges White Ukranians while dehumanizing Palestinians, Iraqis, Indians, Iranians, Viets, and Afghanisthanis.

      @@abstainingindianunitednations FACT: Vedic/Sanatana Dharma/Hindu tradition REPRESENTS about 80% of the India's population.
FACT: Anti-Gay laws were introduced into India by the BRITISH in the mid nineteenth century and repealed in recent years.
FACT: The Same Sex Marriage debate has been controversially, disappointingly but imho rightly returned to the spineless political class to take a moral stand upon and hopefully do the right thing and GRANT FULL MARRIAGE RIGHTS TO ALL INDIANS OF MARRIAGEABLE AGE WHETHER SAME SEX OR NOT! We can only pray for that happy outcome which I believe will come sooner or later and might even be given a boost by the successful passing of Same Sex Marriage legislation in THAILAND that comes into lawful effect this October 2024!

The church isn’t that covenantal. To be the source of relationships. I can’t imagine it getting to that point. 😢

Sooooo… she didn’t know how to “handle” her same sex attraction?
I guess the message of repentance wasn’t preached in the 80’s and 90’s either, eh?
