    I started a workout program yesterday. I’m obese so I can’t do a whole lot right now but I’m able to at least do ten minutes. I work in corporate and I’m tired of looking sloppy . Just a shirt and pants and a sweater. I want to look good. I’ve bought ties and suits dress shoes because I said one day I’ll be able to wear it. Now’s the time. I hate to say it but when you’re put together and fit looking great in a suit you’re respected people take you more seriously.

    An interesting topic! My take: There are men with sufficient good looks and panache to pull off an open-neck shirt with a conservative business suit. Most of us are not those men! Somebody below suggested an ascot as an alternative. I love ascots, got about 40 of 'em. Great with a sport coat or a really casual suit, too breezy by far for a conservative suit. I'd draw a sharp distinction between conservative suits and casual suits. The former are best paired with a necktie, the latter offer far more leeway, I think. I am mostly a sport coat guy, but I do own six suits. Three are conservative, two are definitely casual, and one, by design, is in between. I don't think a T-shirt belongs with any jacket with lapels although that look was somewhat voguish back in the '50s. Polos can mate well with sport coats, but nothing higher on the formality continuum.

    I wear a black v neck t shirt with a black suit to most of my gigs. Music is fashion forward though. I like black skinny jeans for a tailored look and a black v neck with a grey blazer, and black leather sneakers for going out. Gold watch as an accent piece for both but i do love my monochrome. Never tuck the t shirt in for both. Summer, medium wash blue jeans, white v neck and grey blazer.

    For the work environment I would always opt for a dress shirt; a turtleneck is fantastic, maybe fridays.. everything else belongs to casual stylings in your sparetime.. love wearing suits in a lounge, club or restaurant..
    I really appreciate your work, it’s great to see the differences and similarities between the US and europe..
    thanks, Antonio!

    When I wear suits with very vibrant colors, I generally wear a high end tee shirt with it. Burgundy suit with a black tee or a light blue suit with a white tee.

    One thing that kind of throws me off is the "Don't worry about it , that rule doesn't apply when wearing a polo" aspect of the cuff rule. To me there should be a caveat for the full placket polos (no problem with 1/4 placket polos). I can't get on board with that because it looks like you're wearing a dress shirt with sleeves that are too short. 🤷‍♂

    Can't comfortably wear turtlenecks. I wish that I could - IMHO the best look sans tie. I like the Brooks Brothers popover oxford. It can be done with an ascot, too. No pretentions - a close second to the turtleneck ensemble. Great content - Tony presents options to fit many men.

    I sometimes like to wear a bright-colored button-down with a dark-colored blazer, and then lay the corners of the shirt collar on the outside of the jacket resting on the lapels. I find it gives a little bit of extra color contrast, and helps the shirt and jacket compliment each other even more.

    Good video, Antonio. I watch a lot of your stuff. If you don’t mind one piece of unsolicited feedback, it’s “flout” the rules (not flaunt). A person flaunts his wealth, and flouts rules. Perfect advice about a young man working at a conservative law firm, bank, etc. I advised my son to dress like the young lawyers just below partner level. You are not dressing like a 50 year old man. You are dressing young but you are dressing like successful people in the tribe. That said, I am 60 and my boss wears a T shirt. He wore a suit once that looked like it came form a second hand clothing shop.
    Dear god I swear the men in my office look like garbage. I have nice Italian wool suits and never wear them at all. Believe it or not I have a really important job and the best dressed I can be without looking like a freak is a quarter zip, good shirt, well cut chinos and brogues. I will wear a sports jacket/blazer in summer.

    The only viable option to me is a turtle neck (for a sports jacket). Everything else looks incomplete one way or another.
    Henley, polo and hoodies can go in the bin
    Suits on the other hand, should always be worn with a dress shirt and tie. It doesn’t work without them

  • @maximilianmaier3950
    @maximilianmaier3950 22 วันที่ผ่านมา

    In my opinion, by far the biggest mistake when wearing a suit without a tie is to button your shirt all the way up.
    Doing that just makes the whole outfit look incomplete. Without a tie, at least the top button should stay unbuttoned

    Speaking of collars....once upon a time, men chose collar shapes, length and sizes to suit their face shape and neck size and length. Now, I see tiny collar that are wide -spread on big faces and thick necks and the way the tie is tied doesn't work either as it show the part of the tie going around the neck! Please, consider doing a deep dive into all the collar options to suit many different sizes of men... and the commensurate tie knot to complement the chosen collar. It's like it's become a lost art.... and it spoils the whole look of a suit (IMHO).

    • @pageremick5504
      @pageremick5504 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Speaking of collars, you are absolutely right! I've asked him before to review the shape, length/spread etc. of various collars to complement their face and neck. Too many men grab a shirt and don't consider the collar at all and yes, it can be a disaster.
