Americans visit Derbyshire England: The Peak District

- To start off our summer of travel we headed to England. This trip was more unique than others for several reasons. First, this was our first trip to England (and Europe for that matter). Second, this trip contained two countries (a first for OrcaTrip). Finally, this trip overlapped Ashleys birthday.
We spent the majority of our time in Northern England, sight seeing and getting acquainted with local pubs. In this video we explore Chesterfield, The Chatsworth Estate, and the devils arse (a local cave) which are all found within Derbyshire.

Small portions were filmed with the sony action cam HDR-AS100VR: tinyurl.com/jlk...
Thanks for watching, and please leave a comment below! We love hearing your thoughts and feedback!!
You stupid, ignorant little man. There were paved roads in England 1700 years before Independence from Britain (Romano-Britannica). When I drive in America, I am never impolite enough to think the Americans do not know what they are doing driving on the wrong side of the car or the wrong side of the road. To get into a car after travelling 17 hours with no sleep, you clearly have no regard for your passenger’s safety or her life. Fortunately, I know many Americans and you do not uphold the values of being an American.
Your right Des M. John R is an arse.
pupzntz, The Devils arse. :D
John, this is embarrassing mate.
befor i start i am not having a go, i understand completely where you were coming from, you made the comment wrong side of the road, wrong side of the car, you are in the uk, its the correct side, or the oposite side to the usa , it goes back to fighting on horseback ,most ppl are right handed so they fought on the left drawing their weapons from the left in the right hand, riding on the right would simply not have worked its just logic, we kept this method as did most commonwealth countries, but i belive it was napolean bieng a lefty, changed things, so when in the usa you drive and sit on the oposite side which is correct when in the usa. and any other country who adopt this way. saying its "wrong" in a country not of your own can seem a bit arrogant, i think this is what john meant, you could both look at your language and wording to avoid these misunderstandings in the future lol, oh and grats for spelling aluminium correct, still don`t know why you can`t pronounce it properly lol, but nice video, glad you enojed our little isand.
John R John, get a grip you silly little troll!. Do you just browse You Tube looking for things to be offended or preach about?. And don't talk to people online in ways you wouldn't dare to if they were in front of you. #ignoretheclown.
offal It was clearly a jokey throwaway comment, not meant to be taken as seriously as some humourless idiots take it.
Nice to see some American tourists actually going somewhere in England other than just London
Props for actually visiting England, as distinct from London.
I enjoyed this very much. My part of the world, I was born here. I always appreciated being born in this beautiful part of the world.
The weather isn't so great though.
I took the refernce to us driving on the wrong side of the road, as a joke, I am not so sensitive as to take offence.
I don't see it as even British to take such offence. I am an old guy now, we used to be a tough old lot, seems not any more. Thank you for visiting The Peak District of North Derbyshire. If you even come back a few more interesting places, for instance, Matlock Bath, and Eyam plague village.
Derbyshire is the best county.
half way? loll
Thomas Williams nah Yorkshire is lol, or maybe I'm just being biased haha
Thomas Williams
For what?
Nice to see you love where you are from, and yes Peak District is very pleasant, but Yorkshire is England's best county 🤘
I'm from berkshire and would say the best countys are Pembrokeshire, powys, yorkshire, oxfordshire, cumbria and devon
I've been to that town twice and in the Devil's arse once, cracking place
we drive on the correct side of the Road. there was a good reason for it. when you travelled down the road in the days of horses you kept your sword arm between you and someone travelling the other way. this was the same everywhere. the story is Napoleon was left handed and changed the side of travel to protect himself. however what is a fact. wherever the French were the travel was on the right. and Brits on the left. the yanks copied the French after the war of independence.
I would add that most people's leading eye is their right one-- so driving on the left makes even more sense.
Because most are right handed and right eyed also, its safer driving on the left as your brain can react faster to problems making our roads safer.
Btw, learn to drive a real car with a manual instead of an auto pile of crap. You will find its more fun, and I'm told cheaper to rent manuals plus you get more choice.
Interestingly, in the USA trains still drive on the left. I gather the US switched to road-driving on the right, to copy the French settlers in Canada.
I'm not sure it's true either now... though it appears from a Google enlightenment session there are number of countries where road vehicles drive on the right, but trains stay left.
I've enjoyed watching thanks. Glad to see some Americans acknowledging that life in England exists beyond the listening posts of the M25.
Derbyshire is an incredibly beautiful place I’m glad to went up there instead of just London ❤️
I’m from Derbyshire and Castleton is one of my favourite places to go In the Peak District, especially walking up mam tor and other fells nearby , another good place in the peak District to go which is near castleton is ladybower , it’s really pretty up there .
So they mentioned the road thing, I said the same thing in Florida as a Brit! Jesus people its just friggin banter, gawd! Great time lapse of the Chesterfield spire by the way, that was pretty cool!
I hope this comment is shown first. I am very embarrassed by most of the crude comments written by my fellow British. To any American reading this please forgive us. Most of us are not like this. We have such beautiful scenery, villages and small towns in England and would love you to come and visit.
Nice to see my playground in the Peak Destrict. Cannot wait to re visit Chatsworth,
When this lockdown eases. Hope you many happy memories of your stay here.
Hope you enjoyed your time in Chessie and some of the picturesque villages in the Peak District National Park. It's like going back in time visiting some of the smaller Derbyshire villages.
My mom was from Derbyshire... I would love to visit it if I ever get to England.
Loved it! Fantastic video!! Thank you!! Wonderful footage, really well edited. We are Australians and my husband and I can't wait to visit now thanks to your video. The back yard/clothes line scenes really helped to feel like we were really there....great to see the living areas and get a feel of things. So cute!Very well done! (oh and it made us smile too...thank you!)
Americans get so much hate in these videos. When as tourists they're contributing to the economy and advertising our country to even more people. And then those people read the comments... O_O
NIce video , I don’t understand why some of the comments are very rude- it was a friendly fun video that Someone has put in a lot of effort to make --all cars originally were right hand drive until Henry Ford made the model T
I always found the challenge of driving on the "opposite" (not "wrong") side of the road something to be enjoyed when
I visited my US side of the family in Louisiana and took a motoring trip down to the Gulf. Likewise when on holiday
in Europe. Adaptability is always the secret of success. Wishing you happy trouble-free travels wherever you go!
Glad you visited somewhere other than London!! I live in Derby/nottingham which is more of a city than countryside although I do live next to a farm and fields haha
Orca Trip I just got to the part where you went to chatsworth!!! I go there alot with my family and in my opinion is love derbyshire more than anywhere I've been in england because it's so beautiful and interesting! Anyway glad you had a nice time there.
I'm an American whose great-grandmother was born and raised here. Her surname and my middle name are Derby. Thanks for posting. Please don't drive tired in the future. Can be dangerous.
Hope you had a good trip, take care!
You should have gone to Matlock, and Matlock bath next door. Blue Jon mine is nearbye and its very tourist orientated as well as spectacular scenery surrounding.
I live in Chesterfield and I saw my house in the video lol. I also saw my friend dancing in the rain outside the Britannia pub in Brampton. Small world eh!
Oh wow! That's great. Small world indeed
The British way of driving on the left means that for the majority right handed people, the dominant right hand is always on the wheel.
Yes, we know about driving.
The pub where you go in chesterfield is just around the corner from me, flipping eck, you were close lol. You were also filming very close to where I live too , now that's weird lol.
Small world innit?
I see you hated driving back from Castleton to Chesterfield... if you ever return, you should try driving up Crow Lane from Chesterfield town into Brimington (small district within Chesterfield). Oh man, you really will feel the stress there haha!
We will try that route next time!
@@OrcaTrip I hope to see it on TH-cam one day if you do 😊
Nice that you took it upon yourselves to not head to the capital.
Nice video. Hope you enjoyed theUK. 😃
good video I live in bolsover and I'm glad you experienced the British weather
Luckily they didn’t accidentally detour to bolsover 😯
Chesterfield is my home town. If you visit the Peak District again Eyam the plague village is a beautiful and interesting place also Matlock bath named Little Switzerland by Lord Byron.
I live in the city of Derby, not the American one but the British one, I am so glad that you have been to Derbyshire :D
Glad you enjoyed your trip.
What would you say was your favourite part, favourite pub, beer and food.
Great trip. You guys obviously did your research first. I know I'm biased, but Derbyshire is a great place to visit. All around Chatsworth there's lots great places with awesome things to see and do, and more fresh air than you can shake a stick at.
Nice video record. You have got some nice shots of the Chatsworth estate and of the caves. Did anyone tease you as to why Chesterfield has a crooked spire!
THAT is the correct version! There are few local stories all of which are not true! One of the more common ones is that one day a local girl who was a virgin arrived at the church to get married and the spire was so surprised it turned round to have a look. And it won't turn back until another one turns up on her wedding day!
Nice to see Americans venturing north away from London, the land has magic there and the people friendlier. Pity you were short on time as so much to see in the peak district, from the many stone circles, cairns etc to places of historical note such as Eyam ( a village that sacrificed themselves to stop the spread of plague from London) to places of culinary delights such as the Harrtngton cheese shop - Hartington Stilton! Bakewell for the pudding .Then the Blue John mines and onto Buxton, founded by Romans for the thermal springs later built into a beautiful town with Regency n Victorian architecture..... to name but a few.....you would need a month! :-D
The reason we drive on the left hand side of the road goes back to the times of people riding horses and keeping to the left keeps your sword arm ready to defend yourself whilst in the saddle.
I was a bit surprised when you visited Chatsworth you didn't see (or photograph anyway) the house, the waterfall or the grand fountain, which are the main things to see.
Agreed. The waterfall and the lake - breathtaking 😊
Apparently in Ireland they are doing a trial for cars to drive on the right hand side of the road and if it’s successful after a month buses and trucks will join in. Lol
You went to Derbyshire and didn't get in a pub fight ? My head is confused
Hope you enjoyed Chesterfield! We don't get many visitors 🤣
Nor entirely surprised are you ?
Wait so you went to Chatworth and played on slides and looked at animals lol? Did you go through the house? Stunning estate that.
Orca Trip Its mind blowing inside. I've been to most of our remaining stately homes and that one blew me away. There's one local to me called Calke Abbey. It has been preserved in the state it was aquired. Very interesting and very sad how the family went into decline. Well worth a look. The reservoir near by is simply stunning to see.
Orca Trip By the way not sure of you knew but the twisted spire in Chesterfield has a legend associated to it. The story has it the last virgin in the town was getting married there. The tower bent over to have a look and got stuck in that position. Come to Leicestershire next. The national forest is about as beautiful as you could Imagine.
If I was going to visit a Derbyshire stately home I would go to Haddon Hall. See how many films it has featured in. The original part dates from the 12th century. www.haddonhall.co.uk/ It is quite close to Chesterfield.
You could also visit Eyam with its fascinating plague story www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-35064071 (Edit: OK, I have just seen one of your other videos - Eyam already checked off!)
You could even visit some of the local mills of Richard Arkwright (the Bill Gates of his day) which were in at the start of the Industrial Revolution. Or you could visit Strutt's Mill at Belper (a bit further away) where "Slater the Traitor" stole their trade secrets and took them to the USA just after the War of Independence and kick-started industry in America.
Great video, by the way. I thought it looked most professional.
Once stopped the night at Chatsworth sleeping in this back bedroom/ servants quarters that was easily the size of a decent house, just gives you some idea of the scale of that gaffe.
Grew up in derbyshire. Best county for sure.
Ehm, Yorkshire...... :p
Great stuff! You have that Casey Niestat talent!!
Orca Trip I can see why you got few rude comments .when you mentioned about us Brits having it all wrong driving on the left side of the road ,maybe we should have followed North America when they invented Roads and driving on the right side ,but there is only one problem with doing that
Is that we've been using the left side of the road for over a thousand years .Its just smug clever we do it better remarks that really I meet really piss us brits off
See man the driving would have freakedddd me out lol🤣🤣🤣🤣….and the way my claustrophobia would have set in …in those caves 😭😭😂
Oh yeah.. took a while to adjust to the driving. The caves weren't super claustrophobic... we have been in some that would definitely make you feel claustrophobic
excellent wideo I am greeting
Very nice video, thank you. Did you see the Cavendish banana plant in the hothouse at Chatsworth?
cool i live in Chesterfield :)
I just shows the fact that we have a very high standard of driving in the uk that other find hard to match. We do a real drive test in the uk unlike the states
Chatsworth how difficult is that to pronounce? Good on you for visiting some where other than London. You should visit Yorkshire next time.
Orca Trip base yourself in York or Harrogate Beautiful city’s with easy access to the rest of Yorkshire
Beautiful blossom.
I live not very far from peak district & I have been to chatworth before. We usually see British go to America but it was nice to see American in uk
You very welcome
I'm in Derbyshire in the Erewash haha.
I love Castleton deffo my fav village. If you ever come back I highly recommend you visit one of the mines. Speedwell cavern and Bluejohn would be the better ones (pretty sure you can get a ticket for speedwell and peak cavern for a discount). Peveril castle is ok but sadly it is one of the lesser well preserved castles in the country.
No worries. I envy you being able to visit another country but see the the real country and not just the touristy parts. I have yet to visit the US but visiting every state is on my bucket list. To eat in restaurants that only locals know and see sites that are "off the beaten track" is my dream. I need a penpal in every state lol :D
On behalf of all the pathetic, humourless and idiotic British commenters on this page, i apologize. I guarantee we are not all like this. I enjoy your videos. Keep them coming.
I'm glad you liked my home county ;-)
Why don't you look round Chatsworth house...... Some nice antiques in there...
Thats a great idea!
Hi from the peaks😁
Right side of road and car actually😌
wow at 3:26 you are 80 metres from my house on chatsworth road xD crazy
Thats pretty cool! Great area of the world you live in
Ive lived in Derbyshire all my life best county in England👍👍👍👍
Derbyshire is really nice, but Chesterfield is arguably the worst place anywhere in that county!
Thousands of British and Irish drivers travel in continental Europe every year with very, very few problems.
All that's needed is concentration on what you're doing.
My comment was made in the spirit of supportive advice.
Enjoyed your video.
You went to the britannia. Thats my grandpa's regular. Fun fact: It recently got shut down because a drunk guy got a knife out and stabbed someone
@@OrcaTrip I don't think so
I live there. It's my favourite place in the whole world and has the best of both worlds. Manchester if you want the city then for peace and quite the Peaks.
I grew up on that road Sydney street great memories
Really glad you enjoyed England :)
me and my friend were just t trying to find a video where americans were saying 'derbyshire' because we thought it was funny and i didnt expect to be ATTACKED because of the way we drive WHAT
Please turn off that music! It makes listening to your commentary very difficult
Wow the roads..well there really not that bad unless ice! was it winter it looked mild...anyhow strange perspective on roads. I know that area rode it many a time on my motorbike not scary really!
Wrong side of the road ,wrong side of the car and wrong side of the pond.
As a Chesterfieldian. I must say the people who down voted you are arseholes! You really made the town look appealing! Much better than anyone else has done for the town.
Hope you had an awesome time!
Jolly nice
The music doesn't fit.
Derbyshire, a "local" county "for local people" .... You'll never leave! 😄
OG lol. the British don't know what they are doing when it comes to cars!! No obviously not, the Mini, Rolls Royce, Jaguar, Bentley Land Rover. Range Rover etc.
Very well put together video, guys - great to meet you, and looking forward to Parts 2 and 3. Anyone who wants to check out the band featured (Crackin' Right Foot) can look for us on TH-cam, join the group on Facebook or the website www.crackinrightfoot.com th-cam.com/video/IPjdp98wcio/w-d-xo.html
Beautiful countryside in UK.
It is indeed - spectacular at times 😊🇬🇧
You are not on the wrong side of the car, you are on the right side of the car and in America you are on the left side of the car. There isnt a right or wrong side.
How arrogant to assume he is sitting on the wrong side of the car and driving on the wrong side of the road. Chesterfield, being a market town and borough, doesn't have a city centre.
Which side of the road people drive clearly is not a natural law so each one to his own. However, watching lots of these videos it always seems to come as a shock/surprise/reason for comment by US Citizens which I don't think the British feel when going abroad, whichever side of the road people drive. Americans live in a large country with lots to see and no need to go outside. The UK, being smaller and near many other countries to which we frequently visit approach foreign travel with a more open mind and less preconceptions (perhaps).
Big up Derbyshire
oh the british don`t know what they`re doing, its true about americans not getting irony, we drive on the correct side historically lol, when in rome
The British don't know what they're doing about cars? How many Yanks have won Formula championship?
don't like driving on our roads and cars, don't let the door hit ya ass on the way out
Did you know Jason Statham was born in derbyshie.
Chesterfield
John hurt was born in Derby

Right side drive = right. Left = wrong
Pete A DRIVE ON THE LEFT.......AND YOUR SEATED RIGHT !
And approaching from the left we face on-comers from the Right side, like shaking hands. There is a logic somewhere!
You should be arrested. 18 hours of international travel, and you're driving in England for the first time, and you can't even take you eyes off the camera. You're so self-absorbed it's a joke.
No worries, douche.
I expected not to see your head, as its so far up your own arse, so I guess expectations ain't what they used to be.
Orca Trip Excellent video well done. Please ignore the really big fools like Thom Hardcastle, who are just grade one imbeciles and a real embarrassment to English people.
Thom Hardcastle You are one sad human being, mate. If only we could all live to your perfect standards. I bet face to face you're as timid as a mouse.
Would of been nice if you had spared the time to say what you thought of the area u visited !! Instead of moaning about british drivers and roads !! by the way shocked to hear what americans do is always right !!😂😂
I live in the uk and I see nothing that pretty ever if u want to see the real Britain don't go to London, manchester, Blackpool, Liverpool, or oxford there more realistic then the fantasy u saw
Don't listen to her she's just upset she lives in a shitty city. English cities aren't even english.

Are you blind son ?
It’s the right side lol
12:53 Welcome to the Devil's Arse lol...
Worrying sheep is an offence - don't do it!!!
The UK invented the car lol.
zoreto no it didn’t.
Americans...
Orca Trip 😂
an obnoxious young man , but she's nice .
