@@thefreezedryingcommunity when should you pre-freeze before freezedrying? Is it when it is alot of sugar in the soup? Aslo, doesnt freezing the food remove nutrients. If you buy frozen food in the store its supposed to have less nutrients than fresh food. So the 99 percent remaining nutrients after freezedrying might not be correct compared to fresh ingredients?
Two of our favorite reconstituted freeze dried soups are clam chowder and broccoli potato cheese soup. Thanks for sharing!! Btw to reconstitute just cheese, add sodium citrate to make the perfect cheese sauce for vegetables or chips etc.
You read my mind. This is exactly what I am trying to do. Soup (meals) in a jar that I can eat any time. I'm trying to set up 3 months of ready to eat meals and go from there. I like that I can take it when we travel. I like the prepper aspect. I like the easy to have anytime, instead of having to go out and get something. I like being able to use my garden foods and process them in season. Great nutrition. No chemicals etc. My doctors love the difference it is making in my health.
Awesome this is exactly what I want to do in large batches for feeding homeless and disaster victims. Except I will be working with a small unit. Great video!
Homemade soups turn out great, thoses look very tasty, ive made some using same vegetables with barley and elk or deer meat, depending on how much water you use to reconstitute it can be used as a stew or soup.
Costco rotisserie chicken is not only the best chicken in the store. It is also the cheapest. We separate the flesh from the bones and skin. We freeze dry the flesh immediately. We make bone broth with the skin, bones, onions, celery, carrots, etc in our Mealthy Pot. (Think Insta-Pot) we freeze dry just like he does in this video. Happy prepping!
Your right about that. I de bone it and chop all the dark meat and mix it with my 2 Malinois food they love it. Freeze the breast for future recipes and I make the bone broth, then I can it in quart jars. I buy 4, or 5 at a time.
Thanks great idea! A couple months into this journey and just experimenting from onions, ground beef, mashed pots for fast food cooking. Of course Skittles, cake etc. this weekend I’m doing the liver from the cow we just put in the freezer. Supplements! Thanks for building this community!
This looks really good. Can you please tell me what weight of food goes on the small freezer trays? I’ve only had mine for about a week and I’m already wishing I had gotten a medium.
love this show...Question....instead of adding all that water with bulion to the trays , could you not freeze dry the bullion and other spices then powder it and add like a tsp or however chickeny you like your soup and then just add the water when you highdrate ? would that not cut down dry time? also could you put salt, sage etc in the jar without freeze drying it? I'm very new to this only got my machine a few weeks ago so I'm not sure about adding anything thats not freeze dried....thanks
Dude! I love your content! Hey, you ought to check out the “Jetboil” for situations like this. I carry the “Jetboil Flash”, along with freeze dried food, and water (and long titanium sporks, oatmeal packets, and powdered hot chocolate) in my vehicles. I am part of a group who goes off-road Jeeping. We have had a couple times that we were much later than we had planned because of rollovers and recoveries, and my buddy didn’t bring enough food. This kit saved the day! Aside from bringing a lunch, this kit is contained in a “Milwaukee” tool box for backup only. I know that this is a lot of info just to tell you to check out the “Jetboil”, but I thought that you could share the idea of freeze dried food with an roadside emergency kit with others; a full belly in an emergency (or unplanned) situation is essential.
I wonder if the vegetables cook slightly as they are freeze drying. The temperature does not exceed 125 degrees, but that is enough to slightly cook items.
What, if any, are the advantages to freeze drying the soup contents vs making soup and FDing that. End product is FD Soup. Just wondering. Looks great, but curious to see if I am missing something.
Individual ingredients are easier to do in bulk and just add together for most of my needs. It really boils down to what suits you. I have done plenty of complete soups as well. Soups are always extremely great freeze drying recipes
Thanks for all your recipes and great videos, i was just wondering, would cottage cheese freeze dry? Im hoping to make dog treats with liver and cottage cheese
Question? Just before sealing jar, you said you can add some thyme, bay leaf & bouillon. Don't they need to be Freeze dried as well? My brain says yes because they may have moisture in them and can potentially spoil the food. Thanks for answering!
As long as it’s a dried herb, it should be fine because it doesn’t really have much moisture. You’re not really gonna notice much of a difference between a freeze dried herb in a dried herb as far as the bouillon, as long as it’s a dry bouillon, it too should be fine it’s a very tiny amount of moisture spread out across the entire jar. It would be somewhere in the .0 something percent most likely.
It would depend on whether or not you want maximum shelf life vs. eating within a few days. You are never going to go wrong freeze drying something just in case
@@thefreezedryingcommunity Thank you for taking the time to reply. I will be trying this and will add the bouillon cube and spices in a portion of the trays with the veggies for longer term storage.
@@recoblade1465 Thanks for replying. I'm thinking for shorter term storage it will be fine. I love the idea of doing this for camping trips or when I'm out riding my motorcycle and stopping to eat. :)
i have a notification on my screen that says "change oil" unfortunately i tested vacuum once without the freeze dryer not being frozen and sucked up water into my oil. so, i of course changed my oil immediately. evertyhing is fine except the oil change notification comes on and its not time to change the oil, is there a reset button? so the next time i change the oil i can start the oil change counter and sync them together?
This is why I am investing in a freeze dryer. So I appreciate you doing this series. ❤
Happy to help!

I appreciate the recipes and also a visual rehydration. Please keep it up!
Much appreciated! thanks for your feedback
Great idea! Would make for neat Christmas presents, I think.
Lots of possibilities
Great idea! I can't wait to try it.
Really looking forward to this series. TY
Good to hear!
The hydration outdoors was a very nice touch. And I idn't know how you were going to do it - but the thermos of boiling water makes sense
Its stays hot for 4-5 hours and saves me lugging around pots and pans😂
Can’t wait to see all the recipes you make! It’s going to be great!
Awesome this is exactly what I want to do in large batches for feeding homeless and disaster victims. Except I will be working with a small unit. Great video!
I would highly recommend at least a large for your venture. The yield from every batch will quickly justify the extra cost of the machine
Looks good. I’m excited to try this.
Have fun and happy freeze drying!
I really would love a freeze dryer. This is a great video thanks
was good seeing your family
Thanks for the feedback. I don't need convincing on spending time with the fam!
That was an awesome show! Thanks for your effort!

Soups are some of the best and easiest to prepare. All my favorite fd recipes are soups/stews
Thank you. Very helpful.
Ive been so looking forward to this series.. thank you so much :).
More to come! This is so much fun, we should have been doing this long ago. Thanks for watching!
Very good

Good to hear. Freeze dried food is perfect for easy meals in remote areas!
Curious, were the veggies firm/tough b/c they were not pre-cooked or blanched prior to freeze drying?
Not at all. I carrots and celery thin and they rehydrate great

Congrats on your journey. It sounds like you are getting great use from your machine.
I freeze dried 26 lbs of liver and organ meat. Caplets and sprinkle in with meat. Be careful if powder is at all airborne if blending.
Looks like I need to visit Montana for my hiking!
This looks like Montana, but it's CO!
@@thefreezedryingcommunity I’ll visit there, too. 🥰

Please, do more recipes and rehydrate with the boys outside.
You don't need to tell me twice!😆I just need to convince the wife to be on camera.
Are your carrots, onion and celery added raw, or do you cook them a bit before freeze drying?
Yeah I was wondering the same thing. Wouldn't they rehydrate better if blanched before freeze drying? Just a question.
All raw and uncooked
Since you didn't precook the veggies, were they tender or crunchy?
I don’t have a freeze dryer but someday I will
I enjoy your videos so I can learn
I was wondering how well chicken and dumplings would freeze dry
I did a video on chicken and dumplings a while back

How do you seal the mason jars and how long will food last in them? Tx
Wondering the same thing.

Will do. I have something similar that I use when camping or long trips. Freeze dried food is perfect for mountain activities!
Did you freeze dry the veggies raw? Wouldn't it be better to cook them first? Or does freeze drying raw veggies soften them up when reconstituted?
I wonder if the vegetables cook slightly as they are freeze drying. The temperature does not exceed 125 degrees, but that is enough to slightly cook items.
If you are using very hot or boiling water they cook quickly. I cut the veggies thin
How does this work with raw veggies? Does the freeze drying make it so that they cook in the boiled water? Thanks.
Carrots and celery are not an ingredient that needs to be cooked to eat in this recipe in my opinion.

@live.life.simple. can't you just make chicken noodle soup then freeze dry the whole thing weigh it before and after to know the water loss?
When reconstituting milk, do you have to add hot water or can you use cold water.
room or cold temp is fine
I have blanched and freeze dried carrots and within a month they turned white and didnt taste very good. Do you ever had the same experience?
Were they in a mason jar exposed to light?

Hi. Wondering, with an oxygen absorber, how long do you think this would be shelf stable?
This type of food should store 20, 25+
Which pump do you have?
I like the premier pump
❤❤❤❤❤
Sure would be great if you would answer all the questions
I do my best to answer questions but 300 videos x a few comments per video equals way more time than I have in a day
Mr .
Where are you from ?
I am from planet earth. Born and raised
Why couldn’t you just add the bouillon cube, or your own bouillon powder to the jar. And then it’s already there when you add the water.
That was option 3 in the ingredients. 1) add to rice/noodles 2) cook in Boullion 3) add powdered
Morning
Morning!
Never heard of lemon in chick noodle soup
Now you have!
Did I misunderstand? 15 CUPS per tray?
Yeah, not clear on that. Pretty sure he means 15 cups of cooked product. Sounds like a lot.
The trays hold 14-15 cups of whatever you are freeze drying.
XL holds approximately 16 cups per tray when filled to the lip
Man, you forgot the mushrooms!
another great pantry ingredient!
Do you have WhatsApp group sir ?
we have Facebook group and a Mewe group. "Retired at 40's Freeze Drying Group"
Facebook group has too many Karens. Unfortunately.
If you put 80k people into to any sort of group, there are bound to be some people you don't agree with.
