Hello. Just saw your Pentatonix Sound of Silence. I highly recommend that you watch their version of Hallelujah. That was the first Pentatonix song I heard and I was brought to tears. And actually when Kristen started singing that's when that happened. Enjoy.

Enjoyed your reaction. Please continue down this Pentatonix rabbit hole. They have over 200+ pieces in their catalogue. They are in order of appearance, Scott Hoying, baritone, does bass when bass has a solo, Mitch Grassi, counter tenor, very high angelic voice, Matt Sallee, bass, joined the group in 2018 when their original bass, Avi Kaplan left, Kirstin Maldonado, mezzo soprano, and Kevin Olusola, beatboxer and beautiful tenor voice. They are THE a cappella group. They have won three Grammys and are currently nominated for their Evergreen Christmas album, in the Best Traditional Pop Album category. The Prayer, Bohemian Rhapsody, Daft Punk, Imagine, Evolution of Michael Jackson, 90’sDance Medley, and any other song. You won’t be disappointed.💕💕

The tall blonde who started off is Scott Hoying, the second singer is Mitch Grassi, the Beatboxer beside him is Kevon Olusola beatboxer extraordinaire. The 3rd singer is Matt Sallee the bass, the woman is Kirsten Maldonado. Kirsten, Scott and Mitch all grew up together in Arlington Texas. Kevin joined them in 2011 when they auditioned for the show the sing off which the won. The only change is the bass who started with them Avi Kaplin he left the group in 2017 on good terms. and that same year Matt Sallee came on board. I saw them in 2018 in Washington State, one of the best concerts I have ever seen.. great reaction welcome to the Pentatonix rabbit hole.

Pentatonix are the Pentaholics own personal Barbie Dolls... thoroughly interchangable. Scott (first singer - baritone) covers base when Matt (young man in white jacket - bass) sings lead. Kirsten (or Kirstie) is the mezzo sophrano/alto. Mitch (the second singer - counter tenor) and Kirstie switch places often. Sometimes it's difficult to tell them apart in an audio only recording. And, Kevin (beatboxer and also high tenor). I had to laugh (okay chuckle) when you said Mitch must be a "high tenor". This was closer to Mitch's mid-range. NOTE: the group has only had one member change in late 2017-early 2018. Avi Kaplan was the original bass and left amicably for family reasons. He was replaced by Matt Sallee. Just don't be fooled by Kirsten and Mitch's ever-changing appearance. My suggestions: their 2016 cover of Hallelujah (original bass and 700M+ views); their three grammy wins: Daft Punk medley, Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy (a song with no words), and their duet with Dolly Parton on Jolene. Top it off with their cover of Queen's Bohemian Rhapsody. That's all the older stuff. It's always fun to watch those before you move on to 2018 and after.

In this video, they are (from L to R) Matt Sallee (sings bass, joined group in 2017 when Avi Kaplan left for family issues), Kirsten Moldonado (sings mezzo-soprano), Scott Hoying (wide-ranged, but primarily baritone. Sings bass when the bass singer is soloing), Mitch Grassi (his range is called counter-tenor, the highest male voice range), and Kevin Olusula (sings tenor but more often beat-boxes). Scott and Kevin are usually recognizable. Kirstie (rhymes with thirsty) and Mitch will change their appearance now and then. Both Matt and Avi before him usually maintained a consistent appearance as well. They are assisted by Ben Bram, a behind-the-scenes person who does a lot of their arranging. He shared in a couple of their Grammy awards because of the way the award was worded.

After graduation they went to different colleges and majored in music. They got together for a TV singing competition called "Sing-Off" but they required 5-person groups. Some 300 plus songs. Originals and covers. Solo work as well. They cover a lot of genre, all upgraded. From left to right:
Matt, the bass for the past about six years. Soul filled gorgeous voice. In older videos you will see Avi who was with them for five years. A basso profundo who does work closer to his heart now
Then there is Kirsty, mezzo soprano, broadway belt capabilities.
Scott the baritone with some six octaves in his range - do check out “Mars, the choir version to see him solo and all over his range.
Then Mitch the tenor who also breaks the range barrier, countertenor, fab clear falsetto, check his solo work a Billie Eilish cover of “Your Power”
Then there is Kevin the most talented man on the planet. A tenor with a nice falsetto, does fab looping videos for solo stuff “Down” by KO. His cello boxing is his true art
    Enjoy whatever you play

Loved your reaction to this awesome group. They have 200+ songs in their library, some covers and some originals. Every time they do a cover, they make it their own and upgrade it.
Some of their originals: Love Again, Coffee In Bed, Be My Eyes, Happy Now, Run To You, Thank You.
It should be noted that although the group is mainly A Capella, the beatboxer, Kevin Olusola, plays cello and beatboxes WHILE playing his cello, there are some of the groups videos with him doing just that: Radioactive ( feat Lindsey Sterling), Thank You ( Scott plays piano as well), Perfect, Say Something, Over The River ( feat Lindsey Sterling), Shallow, Papaoutai ( fet. Lindsey Sterling)
You can't really go wrong no matter what you choose to react to. Their fans, pentaholics, will show up to watch.

    Pentatonix
They won The Sing Off in 2011. They made a guest starring appearance on America′s Got Talent as non−competitors a couple of years after that.
    The founding members are:-
    Scott Hoying (tall blond guy, natural baritone but has an impressive five−to−six octave range, can go all the way up to high tenor and down to bass, sings the bass lines when the usual bass singer takes the lead);

Kirstin "Kirstie" (Rhymes with "Thirsty")Maldonado (the only female member, natural mezzo soprano, but can go down to low alto and as high as upper soprano, also can sing in whistle notes that are off the scale); For a time in 2018 between the group’s tours, had the female lead on Broadway in the production of “Kinky Boots”.
    Mitch Grassi (a true contra−tenor, can hit high notes in his chest voice with ease and go WAY higher in his falsetto, also with ease);
Avriel "Avi" Kaplan (dark beard and long hair) NOT IN THIS SONG, true basso profundo, trained as an opera singer, also can go up into the tenor range; and
Kevin "KO" Olusola (beatboxer extraordinaire, also is a world−class cellist who plays cello on some of their songs, has a beautiful high tenor voice and gets occasional lead vocal solos as well, graduated pre−med from Yale and speaks several languages including Mandarin Chinese).
Kirstie, Scott & Mitch grew up together in Arlington, Texas, and began performing together as children in local youth musical theater. They ended up in high school together and performed in the choir. While there, they formed an a cappella group called The Trio which had several performance videos go viral on TH-cam, most notably a cover of Lady Gaga′s "Telephone". The three of them are best friends and consider themselves to be almost siblings.
Scott & Kirstie (who were a class year ahead of Mitch) both graduated high school in 2010 and went their separate ways to different colleges, Scott at USC and Kirstie at Oklahoma.
While at USC, Scott joined a USC−based a cappella group called the SoCal VoCals, where he met alumnus Ben Bram, who was now an arranger and vocal coach for the NBC TV show The Sing Off, an a cappella competition show. Ben convinced Scott to get The Trio to audition for the show. The three reunited (Mitch had to skip high school graduation ceremonies to go) in Los Angeles for the audition.
They found out that the rules had changed, so they needed at least five members to audition. Ben put them together with Avi (a native of Visalia, California), who he knew from Avi′s performing days at Mount San Antonio College in California. They found Kevin (from Kentucky) through one of his TH-cam videos that had gone viral featuring him playing the cello and beatboxing at the same time, a talent that Kevin coined as "Cello−Boxing".
Kevin arrived in Los Angeles literally the day before the audition! Scott came up with the name "Pentatonix" after the pentatonic scale. They performed a re−arrangement of "The Telephone" for the audition and passed, despite having been together as a five−piece group for less that 24 hours!
They won The Sing Off that season (all of the performances are available on TH-cam), in which they received a substantial cash prize AND a record contract with Epic Records. They pooled their prize winnings together and all moved to Los Angeles, and all got apartments right next door to each other in the same building.
But just a week later, Epic dropped them because the marketing people didn′t think an a cappella group could sell records.
Instead of giving up, they were determined and began recording their own songs on TH-cam, hiring Ben Bram as their producer and arranger. These usually consisted of the five of them sitting on a couch and performing cover songs live.
Several of the videos went viral, and Sony (the parent company of Epic) decided to give them another chance by placing them on one of their smaller labels, Madison Gate. They released two secular EPs and one Christmas EP on Madison Gate, all of which were strong sellers.
But when their cover of a medley of songs by Daft Punk not only went super−viral, but also won them their first Grammy, they were promoted all the way up to RCA Records, Sony′s top label.
They began writing and producing their own songs in addition to their covers, began putting out a Christmas album just about annually (which has become their best−selling genre), and have had multi−platinum album sales, sold−out world tours, and have won two additional Grammys.
Avi began getting burned out with all of the touring and heavy recording schedule, was suffering from anxiety and personal problems, and learned that his mother had been diagnosed with cancer in 2017. He announced he was departing from the group and taking some time away from the music industry.
Matt Sallee (from Baltimore) joined them in September 2017. He did only become official when they renewed their RCA contract in February 2018, but he recorded with them in September as a featured artist and went on their Christmas tour as a featured artist, as well. When he attended the audition for the group, he had already mastered the Bass part for most if not all their past catalogue. He was successful and has proved that he fits in well with the group.
After a year away from music, Avi has now returned as a phenomenal solo artist in the Folk/Americana/Roots genre.
Ben Bram has been in charge of their production, including arranging and directing from the beginning. He is often referred to as the sixth member. Scott and Kevin are major players in the arrangements, but every member contributes.
Also, all members are songwriters for both Pentatonix and their own solo work.
Ed Boyer who mixes everything of theirs (even the HWB Livestream) is the one who pulled Ben Bram into the sing off in the first place.
They have been nominated for a 4th Grammy for their album Evergreen.
Kirstie became a new mum which caused a pause in touring after their Evergreen Christmas tour 2021.
They have announced that they will have a star on the Hollywood walk of fame to be installed next year.
Things you need to know because if you get these wrong Pentaholics will come after you with pitch forks and torches!
1- There is NO Auto-Tune; what you hear is actually what they sing. They really are that good. One exception is the 90's Dance Medley where Cher used autotune as an effect - so they had to.
2- What produces everything that you hear in the video, you see in the video. If there is an instrument used in the music, you see it on screen.
3- They never release something on video they can’t reproduce with the exact same quality live on-stage.

Eleven years together and a 200 plus song catalog. You can’t go wrong. The guy you liked so well is Matt, the bass since 2017. The original bass, from 2011 to 2017 is the fantastic Avi Kaplan. The rest from let to right are Kirstin (messo soprano), Scott (baritone), Mitch (countertenor), and Kevin (beatboxer/tenor/cellist).

Welcome to PTX! Saw them live in November and I thought there was no way they'd sound this amazing live. Boy was I wrong. They were AMAZING and absolutely blew me away. I can't wait to see them again!! I've been a fan for a long time and they just keep getting better. They are also such fun people and seem so down to Earth. Hello!! Great reaction!! We LOVE Pentatonix! They won the 3rd season of The Sing Off and won a recording contract, that they were later dropped from. They basically became TH-camrs to get their music out there until another recording company signed them. You can't go wrong with ANYTHING Pentatonix. Highly recommend Radioactive, Royals, Say something, Perfect and Shallow to name just a few. Thanks for the reaction. Can't wait to see more.

Pentatonix is my favorite of the 3 big a cappella groups currently making videos - the other 2 are Home Free and VoicePlay. The saying goes that Pentatonix (aka PTX) are the choir nerds, Home Free are the good ol' boys tailgating in the parking lot, and VoicePlay are the theater kids. That's completely oversimplified, of course - any of the groups can (and do) perform any genre they want to, and do it remarkably well. Heck, Pentatonix's 3rd Grammy was in Best Country Duo/Group Performance for their collaboration with Dolly Parton on "Jolene"!
All of these groups performed on the a cappella singing competition TV show The Sing-off in the early 2010's - Pentatonix competed and won the 3rd season, Home Free and VoicePlay competed (and Home Free won!) the 4th season. Pentatonix is actually the newest of the groups to form - they've only been singing as a group for 11+ years now!
As for my favorite Pentatonix songs - you can pick anything out of their huge catalog and you'll almost certainly like it. One trick I recommend is for someone to look through their songs, pick one that you weren't particularly fond of for the original, and then listen to the Pentatonix "upgrade" (as their fans (Pentaholics) call their covers) of the song. But besides covers, about 20% of their catalog are original songs, so you're sure to find something you like.
Recommendations: Hallelujah (just broke 700 MILLION views), Say Something, Shallow, Sing (original), Bohemian Rhapsody, Daft Punk (mashup of 7 Daft Punk songs, their 1st Grammy), Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy (2nd Grammy - an instrumental piece with no words performed by a group with no instruments), Come Along, Light In the Hallway.

This is one of the Pentatonix masterpieces, I think. This is no question my favorite, and I think Matt (the baritone/bass) has a lovely, perfectly trained voice. Mary did you know, Imagine, hallelujah, and come along are the others I think are top notch. I don't usually enjoy tenor voices, but Mitch's countertenor is angelic. Such a rare and beautiful gift.
They are always impeccable. I have never heard a bad song from them. ( But I will forever prefer Voiceplay because of the element of humor and theatrics that make them so much more creative. and because... Well.. Geoff. Haha)

Welcome to the fandom! Rather than repeat everyone else, I want to add that the members each have impressive ranges, so you can never assume which person is taking which harmony. Mitch often does higher notes than Kirstie (the background notes during her solo "teach you" and "reach you" in this video are him); Kirstie has been working on her low alto range; Scott started taking bass parts around their Hallelujah era (he covers bass when Avi/Matt have solos); and the few times that Kevin sings, he's up in the soprano/high alto range (he has small solos in Mary Did You Know, Little Drummer Boy, and Imagine, if you want to hear his singing voice, although all of those songs were recorded over 5 years ago and I think he's gotten more confident with his voice since then).
I HIGHLY recommend watching them (music videos or live) rather than just listening, while you're getting to know them. Aside from making it easier to figure out who does each part, it's also so much fun watching them do something they're so passionate about!
My personal favorite less-popular music videos of theirs are My Favorite Things (Kirstie lead) and Making Christmas. Kirstie, Mitch, and Scott were all theater kids when they were younger, and it really shows sometimes!
Also, they did a Wizard of Oz spoof with Todrick Hall in like 2013 that's theatrical.

Any PTX video is a treat, and I guess all of us who are fans(Pentaholics) have our own favorites. As you watch more of them, keep in mind the only member change was about 5 years ago when the original bass, Avi Kaplan, left and was replaced by Matt Sallee, the far left in this video. These wonderful people have covered many songs in different genres and have a number of originals so that you can select freely from their catalog based on your own musical preferences.

From left to right. Guy in the White jacket, His name is Matt. He is pretty much the bass guy. In some older videos of this group, they had a different Bass guy, He had like a dark beard, his name was Avi Kaplin. He was an original member that left the group in 2017, to pursue doing some single stuff. The Ladies name is Kirsten, she is an original member, you will notice she changes looks and hair color and styles often. The next guy name is Scott, he has a wide range that he can do, as in this video, he covered Bass well Matt sang his part, he is also an original member. Next guys name is Mitch, he also changes looks often as well, but he has a very big range also, but he can get real high for a guy, he is also an original member. Last guy s name is Kevin, Kevin is an incedible beatboxer, and he will sing a line here and there, he is also a renowned Chelloist. he is an oringinal member also. They won the 3rd season of a show back in like 2011 called the Sing Off. They have have a lot of covers, but they have some originals also. Us fans call ourselves Pentaholics. When they do a cover of a song, its not a cover, its an upgrade. They have so many video to watch. I recomend you do the original video of Hallelujah here is a link th-cam.com/video/LRP8d7hhpoQ/w-d-xo.html
Also i suggest their offical video of Bohemian Rhapsody a Queen cover. here is the link th-cam.com/video/ojRj2JK5oCI/w-d-xo.html Hope this answers a few questions

My favorite Pentatonix song? It's probably the same one many other pentaholics have. It's the one I most recently listened to, or possibly the one I am listening to right now. This video is 5 hours old, so I would imagine that people have told you that the person on the left is Matt, their current bass singer. In the 10-plus years they have been making music has Pentatonix, there has only been one member change and that was the bass singer. In 2017 Matt joined to take over from Avi Kaplan who left the group for personal reasons. He now has a successful solo career and does very well. If you watch videos from different points in their decade-long career, you will find yourself wondering if they're all the same people. Kirstie and Mitch are chameleons and change with regularity. If you have to ask, yes, it's always them. If I had only two suggestions to give, I would ask you to react to Hallelujah and Bohemian Rhapsody. And The Prayer. And Daft Punk. And 90s dance medley. But those are the only two.

Welcome! We always love to see new people dropping in to see what PTX is about!
So from left to right, you have:
Matt Sallee (suh-LEE)- Bass (joined the group in 2018 after the group's original bass, Avi Kaplan, left for family and other personal reasons)
Kirsten or Kirstie (rhymes with 'thirsty' Maldonado - Mezzo Soprano (I think of her as more or less Mariah Carey)
Scott Hoying - Baritone and the most soulful voice you'll probably ever see on a white guy, lol.
Mitch Grassi - Countertenor (or as I call him: God. 😅) He is hands down the best singer in the group (everyone in the group has consistently said so), and I'm pretty sure his actual useable range goes beyond human hearing (no, really).
Kevin Olusola (oh-LU-sho-la) - Human drum kit/trumpet/tenor/cellist/who even knows at this point. Primarily is the beatboxer, songs from time to time, plays the cello (he invented what he calls "celloboxing", where he plays and beatboxes at the same time). Dude is like a cross between Michael Winslow and Mozart. Completely unreal. Oh yeah, and he graduated pre-med from Yale.
You will find that there's nothing they have done that isn't great. They simply do. not. miss. ever.
For a beginner's set to get you a sense of who they are and what they can do:
    Hallelujah (Leonard Cohen cover)
    Daft Punk (medley)
    Run to You (Original)
    Problem (Ariana Grande cover)
    Happy Now (Original)
They have 3 Grammys for Daft Punk, Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairies, and Jolene ft. Dolly Parton, and have been nominated this year for Best Traditional Pop Album for their 2021 Christmas album, Evergreen.
A few of my other favorites include:
    Love Again (Original)
Can you Feel the Love Tonight (Lion King)
    Butter x Dynamite (BTS mashup)
    Attention (Charlie Puth cover)
    Blinding Lights (The Weeknd cover)
Happy Reacting, and see you soon!

I see my fellow Pentaholics are filling you in and giving sound advice. I would simply concur: Hallelujah (700 million views), Bohemian Rhapsody (when first released Brian May posted to his social media with the single word caption "Enjoy"...can't get any higher praise than that), and Imagine (John Lennon cover). These are musts for all newbies and beginners. You might also consider starting at the very beginning, with the 2011 Sing-Off competition. Twelve episodes of Babytonix forming, growing, developing and coming into their own, being introduced to the world and taking it by storm. Be sure to listen to the judges comments after each performance (they loved them too)! What brought them to your attention? Their recent performance of The Star Spangled Banner? Pentatonix: Mitch: Countertenor, dark hair, slender. Scott: Tenor/Baritone, blonde, medium build. Kirstie: Soprano. Matt: Bass/Baritone and Kevin: Beatboxer and occasionally breaks out his cello. Note: Countertenors are the unicorns of the music world. Their range goes into female vocal territory. I don't know Kevin's actual vocal range as I have never heard him sing only beatbox and play cello
