In New Zealand, in the late '80s, we had an idiot prime minister for short period of time. His name was Michael Moore. He proposed that, in the future, China would be exporting goods like shoes ( his example ) to New Zealand whilst we would be selling computers to China. Anyway, long story short, Michael Moore was such a failure of a politician, that when he left office, he was made President of the World Bank. I shit you not.
Well, he's not entirely wrong. China did end up selling shoes to the whole world for a couple of decades. But that time has come and gone. Why didn't New Zealand sell computers to China? Only NZ can answer. But the USA, Japan and "Taiwan" and maybe some other countries as well sold billions of computers to China.
China proves that if you educate a population enough, provide them with all the basic needs and wants, they will naturally innovate and be creative. China is the example that if you take on a more socialist view and take care of the peoples's basics, they will have the energy and excess capacity to do great things.
It's true. Even the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics (USSR) launched the world's first satellite, Sputnik, into orbit. The first man in space was Soviet Cosmonaut Yuri Gagarin and the first space station was the Soviet Salyut station.
China copied most technology and send people to study at USA. It is easy when you have USA help specially when they pretend China follow all the rules from trade.

China has transformed from a previously poverty-stricken, war-torn, starving country in the past, into the world's 2nd largest economy today (or world's largest if measured by GDP PPP), the factory of the world (i.e _Made-in-China),_ having the world's 2nd largest research spending, protected by the world's largest military, the _People's Liberation Army._ And it's all been achieved under the leadership of the CPC.
@@randygraham926 Better question we should be asking what happened to China we need to go back further than the last 200 years China is a harbinger for us here in the west…. looking to these American and far right Governments like the ones getting elected in Europe right now. As they close in on themselves close off their borders China has had the luxury of rising and falling few times in history The reason why there is that 7 volume 27 book series on what the Chinese invented first, most have no clue about And we think they just copy and can’t innovate The last time being in the 1500s China spent the better part of a millennia trading places with what is now India for top economy in the world By the 1430s it was by far the top economy and technological leader in the world But their emperor at the time started the slow process of closing in on itself closing off its borders This lead to 400 years of decline and then an eventual semi colonization of China for 100 more years. Even up to the 1980s… 88% of the population was in abject poverty, knee deep in the mud of their family rice paddy plot, or making a dollar a day on a factory floor The big difference is back then they were not running up these huge external sovereign debts like we are seeing with our own Western Countries Now they are back these days, as they lead the “world” in 37 of 44 critical technologies of the future But it took then it took 550 years for them to come back Makes me wonder if our countries could survive a 500 year decline I’m thinking… not the Americans that’s for sure
America is first world and it does not depend on economical situation. First world - western countries and their allies, Second world - Soviet Union and it´s allies and Third world - the others, unalligned countries. It has nothing to do with how the country is developed.
What doesn’t kill you will make you stronger, for Huawei as well as the rest high tech companies in China, when US was busy creating wars last couple of years China was busy building and innovating 😊 here comes the result 😊
I really enjoy to listen and watch analysis in China-US related issues. Your efforts in building positive and constructive relationship and bridge between the two countries are so appreciated and valuable.
Just finished teaching English at a university in China. Cyrus is correct. The students are amazing. They work harder than Americans. We are in trouble in the US!
The biggest mistake in the U.S. educational system was the creation of the U.S. Department of Education. All it managed to do was increase spending per student while K-12 standardized test scores fell.
@mrfoo However, Some Govt Authority Still Opined That The Chinese & China's Computer Science, Innovations Technology, Reserch, Commerce & Mathematica etc etc Are Not Advance Enough When Compared To The Indian Sub Continent's Talents 😂😂😂
Whats interesting was that China never intended to surpass the west, China was just doing what China does unknowingly surpassing the west and people have to tell China where they are positions. This is all just a natural course of civilization and nobody can fault China even if they were jealous.
According to data from Angus Maddison, from the year 1 - 1800 AD, China's GDP made up around 25% of the world's total GDP. It was in the 20th century that China's GDP fallen behind the West and USA GDP became dominant. Now it looks as though China is gradually returning to its historical status as a powerhouse in the 21st century.
Not all that natural. China's success today is in large part due to the thousands of sanctions imposed by the US. China's phenomenal growth was in tandem with the increasing numbers of sanctions put on it. It is also due in some measure to the Chinese govt's successful efforts to root out most of its corruption. They desperately needed foreign investments and understood that the world will not do business with them if corruption exists.
I think people in the US fault our politicians and leaders, who are basically traitors. They saw they could personally benefit from the rise of China, and didn't care if it meant destruction of the West later down the line. The single person most responsible for this was Henry Kissinger, who opened up trade with China between the US, and he also convinced the government to get off gold standard which allowed Fiat/Fake money printing. What happened was all this fake money poured into China in the 80s onward to give businesses the capital they needed to develop. The people in charge and connected to the fake money in the west made massive profits, China developed into an economic powerhouse with Western funding, and it also resulted in the economic destruction of the middle class in the West. Western nations have been playing tricks with their GDPs to artificially inflate them and make them larger than they are.
And because of racial discrimination and the China Initiative started by Trump, thousands of Chinese scientists are leaving USA and returning to China. Trump brought into action the “China Initiative” which had the FBI unfairly and deliberately targeted over 250 Chinese ancestry scientists and scholars causing many to lose their jobs, careers and the death of Dr Jane Wu.
Unfortunately, under the Trump presidency many of them were accused of spy activities for China. They were sent to jail for many years and then released when accusations were found groundless. This would happen again with the big China hater of the time.
China's rise to the top of the science game is mind-blowing! 🚀 They’ve seriously stepped up, investing tons in research, tech, and education. The government’s been super smart with initiatives like “Made in China 2025,” pushing them ahead in areas like AI, quantum computing, and even space missions! 🌌 And their universities are producing a massive number of scientists and engineers. Plus, their collaborations with other countries are next level. Honestly, China’s transformation from a manufacturing hub to a leader in science and tech is super impressive! 👏
Many, high income, and the low income earners get free living expenses! Plus 800 million in Africa better off with the infrastructure built by China, and around that many in Asia!
The key factor for China's wealth is manufacturing. Manufacturing is where the money is. China made an absolutely right decision to open up and industrialize in 1970s. The United States was the opposite of China. It relocated much of its industry to China and other countries. That was how China became rich and the US became poor.
@@Naikomi95 According to the World Bank, more than 850 million Chinese people have been lifted out of extreme poverty; China's poverty rate fell from 88 percent in 1981 to 0.7 percent in 2015.
Uncle Sams greedy owners took everything to China for more profits they already made, China worked hard, diligently, lifting up their citizens lives to middle class, the ones they still didn't transform get everything for free housing, heating, cooling, medical treatment, grocery, clothes to underwear!
The most disappointing aspect is that the US was on top of the world for such a long time, but it could not divert investment away from the defense industry and it's foreign policy was still primarily leading with covert operations. The problem is there is no ability to convince the ultra rich to commit to big projects like the Belt and Road Initiative. Latin America could of had their infrastructure upgraded for over 40 years. Instead, it has been regime change, and flooding the continent with weapons to keep them divided and fighting. This feedback loop just leads to more funding for defense due to fear of revenge. This type of foreign policy may give you short term gains, but in the long term. It's just creating more hateful sentiment. The tactics and strategies from war only work during war. If you use them after the war is over, you are just making new enemies and keeping environment into a constant state of warfare.
What made USA strong was wars. That is what made them successful and they continued that path. People were making money and had a good lifestyle. Why change what is working? But just as Empire's before them, they are so caught up in their "supremacy" they fail to notice what is happening elsewhere. They conspired to collapse the Soviet Union and then assumed Russia was also just a gas station. For decades USA has plotted to take over Russia and capture its wealth. Thinking that would be easy, like USSR, and trained Ukraine soldiers and supplied weapons, expecting Russia to collapse within weeks. That has not happened so USA is turning the "war" over to Europe, so US can take on China. China knows everything about USA & EU, while they know little about China. Their ignorance is going to bring down the US and it will be just another Empire which lasted 100 years. US has no skill in learning how to share their "sandbox" for the betterment of the world. They are like a spoilt child always wanting their own way. If they are lucky they may only get smacked on the bottom, and not thrown out of the house!
If you look at history, China was the most prosperous country in the world for 2800 of the past 3000 years. It only experienced a temporary decline 200 years ago when the Eight-Nation Alliance invaded
It was on top of the world only because it killed millions, then stole their resources. Colonialism and Imperialism is a shameful way to be a leader of the world and Americans should stop glorifying war, starvation induced by the U.S., and essentially enslaving countries as their capstone
The "debt" is just the sum of all federal untaxed dollars. It's a mythical figure that can be paid tomorrow because the figure is in their own currency (USD) and the US controls its own currency. If they they owed $35 trillion in Indian Rupees, then the debt would matter. African and central American countries owe their debts in dollars that's they suffer from hyper inflation periodically because the debt is in another denomination. So creating more of their own money to pay the IMF doesn't help.

What the so-called Experts do not understand is what is known as “Law that governs the Cycles of Empires”. The United States had its glory days after the second war, and it is now in a decline, this is a natural law the dictates how long an Empire can sustain itself. An Empire can prolong its life if it makes good decisions but it can also accelerate its demise by making the wrong decisions - the latter can be seen with the useless wars in Afghanistan and Iraq, and the continuous expenditures of billions of US dollars in support of the Ukraine war and the Gaza conflict. On the other side of this coin, we have China …….…. China does not waste its resources in useless wars or conflicts, instead, it is investing in its military and infrastructure, and based on the law mentioned the day will come in which China will be the number one economy and military power, and the United States will become less relevant. Those who put in question this Law, I suggest they read the history of some of the Empires that did not understand this law such as the British and the Romans just to mention a few. The situation will not improve as long as Americans keep voting for the two corrupt parties and keep neglecting third party candidates.
That’s why our higher education institutions are super important as scientific exchange mediums. The good professors produced the excellent students that will put the world on their shoulders. Now, the U.S. government refused to cooperate with Chinese students. That broke the exchanges necessary for common development. They broke the link at the most crucial moment in human development. That will bring about a divergence of our collective future in a permanent way. Love your messages Cyrus. You do look quite handsome. Your time is most appreciated as always.

I used to think there was a huge intellectual failure across the entire Western society until I encountered you and a few others who genuinely see the truth. I believe you are helping the Westerners more than China by enhancing their intellectual capabilities and providing a more nuanced perspective.
The people from the young countries try to erase the history of scientific and technological contributions from old civilizations. Therefore, they underestimate old civilizations' scientific and technological abilities that were buried by invasions and wars. I suggest people from young countries try to learn the history of old civilizations starting from Mesopotamia. Then, they will find out how much they don't know about the human history.

Chinese govt has 10 year plans and 15 year plans that do not change and therefore required resources continue to pour into its development like 5.5G , high speed rail , drone and robotic tech , batteries , commercial airplanes , shipbuilding , EVs etc. It is a long term commitment. Now they will pour extensive expertise and resources into chips manufacturing. Automakers from around the world did not think much of China announcing EV plans in 2004, today they are the world leaders and cheaper by 25-35% than anyone else. Now those automakers are shivering with fear of coming layoffs and factory shutdowns.
This can't be true saar !! Narendra Modi, touted as the "most popular leader/Prime Minister of the entire World", once proclaimed to the entire world that: "The 21st century belongs to India" "India has become a space superpower" “India is today the fastest growing major economy in the world" "India is the voice/leader of the global south" "India a Vishwaguru (global teacher of the entire world)"
It’s nice to proclaim that India is this or that , but one needs to face some hard realities in today’s world where good governance with clear national objectives & above all, the peoples’ cooperation needed to achieve those desired objectives , becomes the decisive factor on whether the nation becomes successful or not.! Don’t count the chicks before they r hatched, becomes a simple , yet practical rule of the thumb in assessing the socioeconomic achievements of a society.! China is among those few nations on the list so far.!
We will know once India becomes a super power. It is when US controls India, sanctions, bans and slap tariffs on their products. US warships will sail around the Indian Ocean. Is this happening already? Good luck. 😂😂😂
China an industrious hard working nation, had everything handed over by the greediest and richest in the West who wanted their extra 20 cents profit, driving their own economy in the sewer! US has been saying for years their homeless number is around 650,000. What they don't mention that N.Y. alone has over 1 million, so do other state capitals as in 10 to 15 only 1 homeless person may turn to charities for a bed to sleep in! Around 150 million live in poverty even the ones fortunate enough to work at 1977 wages rat from $7.25 to $15 per, hour working 100 hour weeks mostly for rent and food stamps for food, without medical benefits!
Many Chinese workers worked more than 5 days/week. Most of the western countries are progressing to 4 days week. That alone makes China much more competitive
No no no! As a Chinese,i can tell you that‘s not true. We really want to have a job with two days off, but it's a very difficult thing to do because a lot of jobs are single days off and the government doesn't do anything about it!😢😢😢
I suppose that in a country where getting an education becomes an expensive privilege, that country will not be able to compete with one which encourages its young people to become educated by making education accessible to all.
China is truly a gift to the world! I also believe that in one way or another, every nation is also a gift to the world. We just have to discover what each nation can offer.
NOW CHINA IS LEADING IN THE WORLD IN VARIOUS ASPECTS OF ITS ECONOMY, ADVANCED INFRASTRUCTURE, ADVANCED TECHNOLOGY AND ADVANCED ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE AMAZING CHINESE 🇨🇳🔥
Those at Harvard were wrong years ago because they had no conception of the determination, dedication, attention span, and stamina of the Chinese. The writers of the article simply did know or understand the Chinese. I recall during that period being told by Western "experts" that Asians would never be able to master Western classical music In many respects, they almost own it now. The Chinese have an admirable far-sighted society which is not hung up on the pretense of so-called democracy and neoliberalism, resulting in the wastage of resources and talent on an ideological freak show which is the never-ending war scenario operated by the drongos who run the US.
It's crazy how American and West tech quality went down dramatically while China quality dramatically went up . And after what happened in Lebanon with 📟 and walkie talkie who even trust western tech.
The West are still ahead, but the current trajectory tells us not for long. When the Chinese catch up with innovation and R/D things are gonna change ... BTW Those pagers were designed in Hungary, manufactured in China, and probably sabotaged in Israel.
Simple thing that a fresh university graduate would be paid 5-10x in tech company rather than PhD student. Postgraduate paid 3-5x times less as postdoc compared to tech companies in the US. Finally, entry professor's salary in the university similarly 3-5x times less than tech company. In the US no more prestigious and well-paid to be a professor or researcher in a public entity. In China difference is not that dramatic, so more students are happy to go for postgrad study or postdocs. Professors there are very wealthy class, so it is prestigious.
US Science community : Dear, Goverment we need to beef up new tech . US Goverment: Yes, i hv developed a new one- The 'Scientific Art of Sanctions' STEM Community : We need FUNDS!. Government: Yes, USD1.6Billion for Anti China. ad's .... 😂😂😂
It is all about judgement. Impossible becomes possible. Repentance is the only way to avoid judgement, if that is unlikely, stay away from where the judgement is going to happen.
It isn't real democracy the U.S. exports. They overthrow governments and install puppets. Bribes and threats control the puppets. U.S. itself is an oligarchy with "show" elections that do not alter the decisions of the oligarchs who run the country.
Life is all about choices, US choose to spend on military expansion while neglecting other areas, while China is serious on innovation and spend wisely on education and research.
That's absurd... China can't inovate ? We seem to forget, it was a humble Chinese man who co-founded the J P L, his name was Qian Huesen, for his significant contribution to America, he was deported back to China, where he became Chuna's father of Aerispace. Program ( equivalent to our N A S A ) 🙏🇨🇳❤️ R I P 🙏🇨🇳❤️
China’s leadership, whilst being communist, has been constant for decades - their foundation to increased dominance. Meanwhile, the US (and others in the West) is a democracy and changes its trousers every four years (or 8) meaning there is no consistency and each party-change leads to undoing the other’s policies. This is the foundation of their demise in dominance. China also has a decent work ethic that isn’t seen is the lazy West.

we need to go back further than the last 200 years
China is a harbinger for us here in the west…. looking to these American and far right Governments like the ones getting elected in Europe right now.
As they close in on themselves close off their borders
China has had the luxury of rising and falling few times in history
The reason why there is that 7 volume 27 book series on what the Chinese invented first, most have no clue about
And we think they just copy and can’t innovate
The last time being in the 1500s
China spent the better part of a millennia trading places with what is now India for top economy in the world
By the 1430s it was by far the top economy and technological leader in the world
But their emperor at the time started the slow process of closing in on itself closing off its borders
This lead to 400 years of decline and then an eventual semi colonization of China for 100 more years.
Even up to the 1980s… 88% of the population was in abject poverty, knee deep in the mud of their family rice paddy plot, or making a dollar a day on a factory floor
The big difference is back then they were not running up these huge external sovereign debts like we are seeing with our own Western Countries
Now they are back these days, as they lead the “world” in 37 of 44 critical technologies of the future
But it took then it took 550 years for them to come back
Makes me wonder if our countries could survive a 500 year decline
I’m thinking… not the Americans that’s for sure
Thank GOD China and Russia have good Leadership. Mankind has hope now. America is a third world country now.
Russia's adult literacy rate is *99%.*
China's adult literacy rate is *99%.*
United States' adult literacy rate is *79%.*
America is first world and it does not depend on economical situation. First world - western countries and their allies, Second world - Soviet Union and it´s allies and Third world - the others, unalligned countries. It has nothing to do with how the country is developed.
It might be that the rankings are switching... but USA is still the most powerful nation and will probably be so for a few more decades.
don't worry, my countrymen will rule America and real American Indian.
my country india is superpower country
I would argue they're second world, tbh

Most of the researchers in US have chinese name.
And the best beains too.

According to a survey, Chinese kids want to be astronauts when they grow up, while American kids want to be TH-camrs.

Nearly the whole population of China were poor in 1970's. Now, 700 millions population are middle income
thanks to communism, belive it or not
Many, high income, and the low income earners get free living expenses!
Nah, they are still poor

Excellent points.
The US government's obsession with wars and starting coups will be there legacy @@mandrews1245
The US national debt is now $35 trillion and growing by $1 trillion every 100 days!

@@Naikomi95 Don't worry! China national debt is nothing compare to the U.S. one. Go and learn.
@@GGLEDOU china's national debt is higher then it's gdp... It's not looking good
The "debt" is just the sum of all federal untaxed dollars.

Agree. The concept of Thucydides traps only apply to the Anglo-Saxon people because China believes in Win-win approach, not the zero-sum mentality.

In China difference is not that dramatic, so more students are happy to go for postgrad study or postdocs. Professors there are very wealthy class, so it is prestigious.
