    The "thicker" material you're referring to is when the jeans are 100% cotton vs. jeans that are like 97-98% cotton with 2-3% spandex that a lot of fast fashion brands are doing now. 100% cotton jeans last longer too! 😊

      Only upside to the ones that are partially spandex is that they’re a little stretchy and therefor more forgiving in their fit.

    Hey Alexa! I I sell vintage clothing on Depop and specialize in fitting vintage denim on people!
    I think the reason why you find a little more trouble finding your fit in the men’s section is because your body is more curvy in the hip area and you’re also really long and tall in the hip to midriff section! Where Haleyscorner is potentially a little less long and hippy the rise of the men’s fit comes up higher on her body and that’s why it sits slightly lower on you in comparison.
    NOW I know you said you tend to fit better in Bill Blass denim and that’s totally because they tend to still keep their high rise (12-14” rises) but allow for more hip room so you’re still getting your high rise fit on your bod but can get them over your thighs and bum. Levi’s and wrangler unisex denim tend to only have an 11” rise max and like you said, you need a 12” because your length is a little longer!
    Anyway I feel like I’m blabbing on now but yeah, was that even helpful? I dunno!
    Stick with your bill Blass and specifically vintage Women’s Levi’s where the hips will have an inch more that you need. Also I love the brand JW& Co or Jeanworks & Co for vintage denim that gives room in the hips but still has a long enough rise to be appropriately high waisted and what you’re looking for ☺️☺️✌🏻

      nostalgikid i agree! I never find mom jeans that fit me perfect in the men’s section, because i have hips and a smaller waist. All of my best fitting mom jeans have come from the women’s section :) I am also 6’0, and the mom jeans ive found in the women’s section almost always have higher rises

    Your thrifting outfit was so cute and also I feel the struggle of finding mom jeans sooo hard. It was a trend that I always wanted to try but because I’m curvy it was super hard finding one’s that fit my hips and my waist. I’ve managed to find one PERFECT pair in the hundreds of times I’ve gone thrifting for jeans and I’ve found two other pairs that are meh but I wear anyway because I wanted variety. I feel like the majority of “trendy” girls I see wearing them are quite slim or get their mom jeans from AE where they’re kinda stretchy and I just don’t do fast fashion anymore... I think you found some super cute jeans and I’m going to channel this video next time I go looking for mom jeans because it can be a frustrating process when sizing is all messed up and you start comparing the way they look on you to how they look on thinner women. The strug is real :/

      Liz Carr what I have found is that I have to size up quite a bit for vintage mom jeans, I’m a 12 but my mom jeans are normally a 16 or 18. Also my waist and way smaller than my hips and I realized 501s literally are awful for my body, 550s, Chic brand, lands end, and wrangler I think fit the best! I hope this helps!

    • @lizcarr6329
      @lizcarr6329 4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Lindsey Marsteller the pair I have that fits super well are “riders” which I believe are by Lee Jeans. I also have a pair of Lee jeans but they’re not as high waisted. The two I have that I like best are my true size of a 10 but I also have another pair that fits me but are only slight baggy that are a size 14 “petite”. I definitely try all sizes it’s just a bit of a body image issue I think. I have gotten better about the size thing where I don’t let it bother me that I have to size up one or two but sometimes it just hits ya wrong ya know? I cannot do Levi’s either. I have tried even new ones on and I really dislike them because IMO they’re made for thin women 🤷🏻‍♀️

      Absolutely. A reason larger sizes aren't in thrifts is due to the fact nobody was making larger sizes for us. I wear AE jeans. I don't think it's been a full year since they expanded their sizing.

    You might be able to fit in boys sizes better then mens, but mens and boys don't usually taper at the waist. You could put elastic in the waistband, I did that to a pair of jeans last year and added buttons, oh girl those jeans were the best. When I was bloated I could loosen, if was slim I could tighten. They are the best!

    Fun tip I always use is finding your vintage size! Often times in thrift stores they look at the number and then slap it on the rack. I am around a vintage size 12 so even though I'm usually a 5/6 I go there too! Especially because vintage tends to be the perfect high waisted "mom" fit for me. Some of my best pants (not just denim) are vintage!

    I try to find high waisted jeans that just fit me around the waist without caring about the fit around the legs cuz it can always be altered.
    I found some black Levi stretchy-ish denim bell bottoms that fit me perfectly around my waist but I didn’t like how bell bottoms looked on me. So to make it more flattering I sewed a little more than half down the pant so the bell bottom turned into a relaxed skinny jean :) not too tight but not straight lol. It was easier to sew them cuz the fabric wasn’t as thick as normal vintage denim and the black color made it easier to hide the stitching

    • @lestranged
      @lestranged 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That is what people did in 1979-80 when the style changed from bell bottoms to straight/skinny legs. Instead of get rid of all your old jeans and buy new, you could take in the leg. It's a lot easier turning flares into straight than vice versa.

    I’ve heard (from people who work at/with Goodwill) that they often load up their vintage jeans (the ones that will be hot items) and sell them to other places. So that might be why you can’t find good ones at Goodwill! I typically avoid Goodwills. I’ve never had luck at them here in Chicago or other places I’ve been. I live in western Washington and so thrifting is very popular and so all of the thrift stores in town are very picked over in the jean area. Recently tho, I drove into a more rural area in the state and it was full of vintage Levi’s and wranglers. Maybe if you live in a metropolitan area like me you might have better luck going off the beaten path where the prices are lower because Levi’s are less trendy and more practical. :)

    Thrifting jeans is by far the hardest thing for me personally, I only have 1 or 2 pairs of thrifted jeans and I only ever wear one of them lol. I feel like in terms of thrifting or buying any traditional jeans, with that strong and resilient but stiff denim fabric, my curves really hold me back.
    I have about a 10 inch difference between my waist and my hips so I never find traditional, thick, good quality jeans that fit both my waist and my hips. I've sort of resigned myself to the fact that the only jeans that fit me have some stretch to them.
    Which would explain why my fave mom jeans are unfortunately fast fashion from Boohoo (honestly the denim is much thicker than I expected and I was not expecting much). I'll still never stop trying though so your tips are always useful and I'll never stop watching you thrift awesome mom jeans either lol! Bringing the tape measure is a really good idea btw!
    Thanks for consistently blessing us with good content and having the strength and determination to thrift jeans in poop smelling thrift stores 😂 ❤

    I feel like I like mom jeans on other people which makes me want to try them, but I'm not necessarily a fan of the slightly bulky crotch 😅. Also sometimes what I do is go to stores like ross and tjmaxx and try on brands from there because they have a lot that I've never heard of and I just familiarize myself so I don't feel stuck only looking at AE or Levis for example

    I live in Oakland ca and Thrifting is pretty popular here too especially around UC Berkeley. When I was looking for jeans to make shorts I went straight to Savers in Pleasanton and had really good luck.

    You should try crossroads trading! Depending what you get sometimes the prices are cheaper than savers. Also it’s right down the street from both thrift stores. I have found all my mom jeans from there.

    I find another reason to look through all the sizes is that when people are thrift store shopping they may decide they don't want something after all and they just put the clothing items on any rack near them at that time.

    I know a lot of us don’t support fast fashion, but I do have to share that Walmart’s men’s Rustler jeans are the PERFECT mom jean fit. I struggle to find mom jeans that I like thrifting because I’m a size 16, so if you don’t mind the fast fashion aspect this is a really good option. They’re a thick denim and only $12 a pair! Of course I do support secondhand more because I’m not a huge fan of fast fashion either, but I thought I’d share this. Happy thrifting everyone ❤️

    Also check what the fabric is made of. A lot of the good, vintage mom jeans are 100% cotton! The Lycra in them is what gives jeans their stretch, so if they have that in them make sure it’s a lower amount.

    Alexa!
    The difference between the Goodwill Outlet and the Boutique is the boutique is a bit more pricey and they mostly only put out the name brand items. hence why they are more expensive. The outlet is just almost whatever they were donated. (which prices can be crazy, which is ridiculous since it was all donated!)

    Definitely always check the mens section, not just for jeans but also shirts. I find womens pants and shirts in the mens section all the time. I think the workers at my local goodwill don't know how to tell them apart very well so they just stick every button front shirt in mens (even if there are boob darts lol)

    Alexa! If you want to see if a pair of jeans will fit at the smallest part of your waist, just take whatever mom jeans you have, wrap it around your neck, and however it fits will help you determine if another pair is high-waisted! For instance, I have found that jeans fit a bit too small around my neck actually make the perfect pair of high-waisted denim for me (neither too big/small). You don’t have to bring a measuring tape or even try them on with this method, imo!

    I can’t understand the high waisted craze...I guess I’m stuck in the 2000s because I love low waist pants. Also I’m kind of “skinny fat” so I need that waist to sit comfortably on my hips & below my belly, lol.

    • @bums009
      @bums009 4 ปีที่แล้ว +19

      You might be the first person I've ever seen say this lol, I feel like after the 2000s a lot of women developed some kind of muffin top related PTSD, I know I did! They look great on some people though and I'm sure you rock them.
      And tbh I have seen low rise and mid rise jeans pop up on Instagram now and then so they're definitely still a thing. And though the idea of low rise jeans becoming the new thing again and being the only thing available (like it used to be) is my personal nightmare. I feel like thankfully these days, fashion and trends are way less narrow and rigid and encompass a much bigger variety of styles and fits than they used to.
      Basically my point is that, fashion these days is much more about you do you and less about what celebrities are wearing or what cosmo says is trendy. So you're not stuck in the 2000s, you're just doing you :) also it must give you a pretty good advantage when thrifting lol!

    • @yc2877
      @yc2877 4 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      I would never wear low waisted or even mid rise pants but i love the look of low rise slouchy pants with a crop top or something like low rise carpenter pants. Even low rise jeans that flare that are 2000s esk are a look in my opinion. I just wouldn’t wear them because I have a smaller waist and a bigger bottom so high waisted pants suit my pear figure more. Low rise looks the best on people with super model figures: slim, tall, and rectangular.

    • @AubreyMichelle09
      @AubreyMichelle09 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I’m with you on this. I don’t like super low jeans (Aka early 2000s show your thong strap type). But I like low/medium rise. If I do t try to buy High rise I usually have to size up two sizes to fit my stomach and then they are way to loose in the crotch area.

    • @lestranged
      @lestranged 4 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      @@bums009 "being the only thing available" you just triggered me! The late 90s/early 2000s was literally that nightmare. I am long-torso already so even 'mid rise' is low on me and it was so hard finding any flattering jeans back then. It's fine if low rise comes back as an OPTION but please, dear god, not as the only thing available.

    • @briannawilliams8779
      @briannawilliams8779 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I also prefer mid rise! I'm short so most times I think high waisted makes me look too short and then low rise just makes me feel less secure lol but low rise in sweats, drawstring pants, and lighter materials doesn't bother me as much

    Hey Alexa- so far as measuring the waist or rise- the Salvation Army I prefer has 12” square floor tiles so I just put them on the floor to check- gotta be a bit bigger than 24” (floor tile doubled) and I always try, decide, shower 🚿straightaway then wash what I bought- VOILE’❗️

    I am not sure how close you are to Pomona, but visit eco thrift. There’s only a few around California. There’s one in my town and it’s the best. Super cheap there’s always sales on certain tags. I bought two wranglers for 4 dollars. I had to alter because I am only 5’1, but worth every penny!
