cracking aerial vid paul . i have some wonderful memories of lairds where i served my time as a welder back in the late 70s and 80s . Its just a shame theres so little of what's left of a thriving industry that once was the mainstay of employment in birkenhead
Thatcher was to blame for the loss of our industry! Especially up north . I was a welder too but in the plumbers yard on the pipework so I don’t know if you worked in the dry docks too , I only worked there for a couple o years as I am a pipe welder
Wow 😳🤩👍 Paul, extremely interesting area. Imagine in the past I bet it was extremely busy and you would find it difficult to move around. Nice 1 and keep warm 🥃🥃
Cammell Laird invented most carrier technology especially on the Ark Royal ! Laird’s were first to weld a carrier instead of using rivets and first to build one with an angled deck and armoured deck
I was a crane driver in Laird's for many years between 1964 and 1980. It's sad to think that nowadays the yard doesn't have a single outside crane. They use hired mobile cranes as and when required.

Thank you Paul, a great view "over the wall". My Grandfather worked "over there". He worked on The Ark Royal. Great stuff!
