Gotta agree with the other comments, I am really enjoying this series. You really don't need fancy editing or equipment to make a good video, just good connections and a good idea. This video perfectly sums up what it is like to work on a Subaru, a massive ball ache but worth it when all done! Good work guys, and still with £6k of the budget left!? Get a forged block, bigger turbo and FMIC and it will be a monster! By the way, I think the stock injectors were 440cc's
Forged block for 6k is a bit much. You could do rods, pistons and an sti vf34 turbo, not accounting for labour that should work. A ej207 sti engine can hold about 360hp (with stock turbo) with rods/pistons about 400. Depending on how different the wrx ej205 is anywhere between 360 and 400 is possible
That dyno must be VERY generous. I have a 07 wagon and had to put a a VF48 turbo, grimmspeed top mount, id 1050 injectors, TGV delete, and full turbo back exhaust to get 298HP… with a 2.5 L…..
Wrong. Engine dynos measure crank. Chassis dynos measure whp. Since the engine was in the car and the car was on the dyno it was whp. Which is weird, because those numbers are pretty dang high for stock turbo and IC.
It's pretty wild how big of a bump in power you can get from bolt-ons and a tune. Modern turbo cars are pretty impressive. There was a time not long ago where to see that kind of gain, you had to go from NA to forced induction.
More racing stripes! More vents! Racing stripes tell the air where to go, for faster acceleration, and higher top speed! Each stripe = 3hp. More vents = more cooling = more efficient = more fast. More vents also means more holes, making the car lighter!
Been really into these series now, having 2 Subarus myself and did exact same jobs you did byself without any experience was a 'cancer', but gained loads experience . Funny enough I had exact same exhaust blow lol. Keep the great work, this is true enthusiast stuff!
Dumping a bunch of dry ice on the sound deadening material on the floor will help break it up, hammer it to small bits before dumping it directly on the material and it will make chiseling it off much easier.

I spent more then 2k on my car so far in just performance parts. GDI 2.0t on e50 with aux fueling. Has 2 extra 42lbs injectors on throttle body that only spray under whatever throttle position I have them set up at. Helps keep my valves clean also.
Hmmm... Something seems off with that power number. I've never seen a wrx with the OEM td04l make over like 250whp. That Dyno must either read very high, or there's some corrections going on. You're lucky to make that power on an ej205 with a vf39 from an sti.
Great job. The juxtaposition of the downs of spannering to the highs of spinning it up on the road says everything about why folks even bother in the 1st place. Well done lads
Swabbed 800€ exhaust into Legacy R and it took ~60 minutes with smoke breaks. It would have been faster if I had used a lift like they did in video. Research into aftermarket parts you are going to install pays back massively, both in time and reduced headaches
For future reference, to get the up pipe out, I unbolted my headers, and I took out the bolts that mounts the motor to the subframe, then jacked up the motor, should just slip out if you do it right. No need to unbolt the turbo
Get a bigger turbo a front mount intercooler upgraded all the intake piping to larger piping like 2 inch or 2 1/2 inch Maybe recommend upgrading the axles if you’re going for bigger power to
I have been subbed since the first episode of this series and wow! It really shows how you don’t need much to make performance. I’d also like to add a ❤ for Duncan!
Just a thought but would an E85 tune be a cheap-ish way to increase power even more? I honestly don't know how expensive it is or if it's even possible with your Subaru but maybe it's something to look into. Also I'd bet you could dial the suspension in even more than it already is. Anyway I really like this series and very much enjoy the chemistry between the three of you (and shoutout to Richard too lol). Thanks guys!
I almost wonder if it will be something accessible with the turbo and front mount. But it is meant to be practical, maybe E85 would make it unpractical given the access to the fuel itself
They're in the UK which means you cannot get e85 at a petrol station. Also if they did they would probably need to go for a flex fuel setup to ensure they weren't just limited to e85 alone. There are more cost affective methods of making power when you consider these things.
Little tip for next time... If you undid the engine mount nuts under the engine cradle, you would've been able to jack the engine up an inch on the offside to be able to get the turbo up-pipe out from underneath without needing to remove the turbo
Bigger turbo will just easily break the ej205, because u are already at the top of its perfomance i think. ~380 engine hp is a max power for it unless you limit the torque up to 5000+ engine speed.. But u deffinitely need bigger top mount cooler or front mounted one for more stable perfomance. Cool series btw! Have the same engine with tiny ihi vf30 turbo and 1300kgs weight. Goes 0-100kmh in 3,8-3,9 sec.
Put the vf48 turbo and the sti intercooler very cost efficient and works really good for track and then use the other bit of money for a 4:44 diff with the 5 speed transmission
This whole series is like a wierd "mirror" of everything Ive done/plan to do with my black 5spd, 05 Saab 92x aero "Saabaru".. (wrx wagon). It already has a Cobb "stg 2" turbo-back exhaust & Access port tune. But I plan to set it up for AutoX/track driving as well. And just like them, my factory clutch is almost dead at 180k miles lol, I'm going to get the exact same BC coilovers, vinyl wrap it black, get new rims & tires, big brakes, upgraded cooling/oiling, possibly strip out some of the interior & extra sound-deadening (but not everything like them), and I also have an exhaust leak. There's several other things that are weirdly identical to them from earlier videos.. I can't remember all of it though. But awesome series getting to see this done on the same car as mine.. helps me decide what to buy🤘
No. The "burbley" ones have an asymmetrical exhaust system. The latest series of FA engines have a matched exhaust system and they don't have anywhere near the characteristics of the old engine (some even have CVT fitted 🤯)
The uel headers also reduce power too believe it or now. Hence the na ej's came with el headers to try and get a bit more out of them. Also the reason when races they have el headers
Awesome, my favourite episode so far. I kinda hope that you don't QUITE beat the Lambo, so big turbo and intercooler gets done. It's actually turning into quite a car!
I'd have probably gone with adding the bigger turbocharger per recommendation. That and possibly an upgraded drive shaft. Though, that's primarily because I get worried about throwing a rod due to excessive RPMs. 🤣💯
Surprised you didn’t do a vf series STi turbo (not sure if yours comes with the td04 or not, in the USA it does) but we can find STi vf series in the USA used for 500-600 bucks, which would be a huge update. Anyway. Love this series
750cc injectors on a 2.0 wrx is insane, unless the end goal is 400+bhp on a 20 year old EJ205 and 5 speed box?? A set of 550 pinks or 565cc hawk/hatch blues would have been fine.
Well you found out the key to Subaru... Working on them with turn you into a bloody unicorn 🦄 hahah quite the bump there mate but welcome to the subi life haha
Just fyi for anyone wanting the most performance for the money...its almost always a bigger turbo, and as minimal supporting mods as possible. Stock location turbo, catless parts that mate with oem exhausts, bigger injectors, flash tuned. Always will beat out full bolt ons and stock turbo.
People dont seem to understand how much power loss there is in a drivetrain. Power stated us at the crank, AWD system like subarus will take away 30-35% or more of the power at the crank. RWD cars loosed 25% and FWD cars between 10-15%.
@@yogeshd5872 dyno numbers are at the wheels usually but this one seems to adjust for generic drivetrain loss to estimate crankpower. Stock 2.0L WRX has 220 at the crank when new, this one is worn and that afjustment might be off to actual parasitic loss going on. Either way they wouldnt see 215hp result from stock. If it adjusts(which seems to) then final 304hp is still the crank power and whp is probably arond 215 ironicly. While stock whp would be around 150-160 horsepower. So not exactly 100hp less but more like 30% of power deducted from result is what makes it to the road
Wonder how much go faster stripes would affect the performance
Like 3 seconds a lap
Obv adds 3hp per stripe
cant believe ppl still dk this🙄🙄🙄
Red paint would give you 5 seconds easy, da red onez go fasta
at least +20hp at the wheels
At least 69 hp

"Give me oil in my subaru, keep me burning" gave me severe church kid flashbacks.
Vent mounts are great, unless you need the heating on, you know heating up your phone while charging it …
I would be very excited to see a turbo and intercooler for big gains!
Holy Moly!! Wasn’t expecting that much hp gain! Love it !!!
Such a sick series please keep making more of these
Best serie on youtube right now!
So your saying the gearbox takes 100hp in heat? Wow, are you sure?
@@yogeshd5872 dyno numbers are at the wheels usually but this one seems to adjust for generic drivetrain loss to estimate crankpower. Stock 2.0L WRX has 220 at the crank when new, this one is worn and that afjustment might be off to actual parasitic loss going on.
Either way they wouldnt see 215hp result from stock.
If it adjusts(which seems to) then final 304hp is still the crank power and whp is probably arond 215 ironicly. While stock whp would be around 150-160 horsepower.
So not exactly 100hp less but more like 30% of power deducted from result is what makes it to the road
i praise Richard's patience.
