With everything Deryck has gone through, from his childhood to his struggles with addiction, it makes me very happy to see one of my childhood heroes win the battles with his demons and keep making great music for us all 20+ years later.

I'm a 21 year old french guy who grew up without my dad. I never knew him, and I never cared about it until the last 6 months when I realized what I'd missed. I don't know why it started affecting me, but I think it's because my family really begins to have some struggles right now. And I think I am the only one in this family who can help them. I'm pretty sure that if my dad were there, it wouldn't be so difficult to me. Anyway, it makes me accept my responsabilities and makes me wanna believe that I could be the man my family always wished I could become. It makes me wanna succeed in my life. I wish I could make a movie or some music, but I still don't have anything to start this projects, except my own ambition and dreams. My family, they can't help me. I got no money, and no experiences. I'm all alone. I think it's one of the reasons why Sum 41 is my favorite band. I can really feel connected with Deryck, especially in the songs "Walking Disaster" and "Dear Father". And now "Never there". When I listen them, it's like I'm the same as Deryck was before. And if he have succeeded, it makes me feel like I still can try my best to do the same, even in my darkest hours. He shows me a way to be a better person than myself. I wish I could be like him, succeed in what inspires me and pursuit my dreams until I die.

I know they will never read this, but you guys have been with me for a while. I am 12 years old, and I am a huge fan of Sum41. I first heard about them when I was 6 and my parents divorced. It was when my dad finished moving everything into the tiny apartment we rented, and a song from Underclass Hero came on. I had heard it before, so I asked my dad what the name of the song was and the band. Then he told me about Sum41 and how he had listened to them for a while, and even saw them in concert when they were opening for a concert he was going to. Since that moment, I have loved Sum41 so much. I have even met them now, and seen them 3 times. It was the best moment of my life... walking over to the band as Dave said “Metallica shirts in the middle!” because I was wearing a Metallica shirt. I just want to thank you guys for playing such a big role in my life.
@@smorcsavage9234 hey dipshit I can relate. Doesn't mean it's a good song. I don't need to be constantly reminded my dad didnt care about me.. I had a hard life asshole..Sadly, it's a terrible subject that doesn't transfer to a song very good..
I'm not a father yet.. But I feel the same, It means the world to me to have a wife and kids, it's all I really want in life, but I'm so scared that I'll let them down.. But I have the best of intentions and me and my girlfriend are the best couple I've ever seen, and that's not me being naive.
How did I not know they made this. I luv it. That was me and my son too for awhile. His father not in picture anymore, but we found a way better one. I was looking for that other song and came across this one. Love
There departure was known even before :( i saw them live in sep2022 and they told the crowd they were leaving the band but cooking a double album heaven and hell, and that the decision was taken by them even a couple years before, i guess during covid strike
One of the best, deepest and most emotional Sum's songs. Huge goosebumps from the start to the end, no words can describe it more. Thanks, Deryck Thanks, Sum 41 You are one of my favourite bands and always will be ♥️

He did teach me what I never wanted to be if I had kids..this song still brings tears to my eyes every time😭😭😭
Well yeah it’s addressing a very sad situation that he had to face and go through but it’s healing as well bc he saying that he forgives him or is finally at peace with the situation and is moving on from it ❤
Going on six years since I lost my dad. The pain doesn't die though. Time will mend and make things easier. I too am a grown ass man, and I cry more than I care to admit. It doesn't make us soft or any less. It makes us human

Always feel this band has grown with me. Fat lip was my jam in high school. Chuck came out just as I was getting into harder music. Same time I was struggling with alcoholism, War came out. And I was having relationship problems when this album came out and Turning Away pretty much spoke to me. Even this song, my parents are still together but my fiancee recently lost her job and when the mom in this video came out gets a job it kind of gave us hope in a way. So thank you Sum 41.
this one hits home for me. i have a father, but i don’t consider him my dad. to me, a dad is a father that actually cares about you and loves you. someone who supports you no matter what. i never had that. most of my older siblings did. i guess he just decided to quit trying once i came around. it is never going to be fair. i met a really nice guy in school. he was one of my teachers. he’s been there for me during my hardest patch in life so far and he never gave up on me. he’s been such a huge support for me and i am forever grateful and proud to call him my friend. he’s been more of a dad to me than my father. Ich bin so dankbar. für immer dankbar für dich. Danke, dass Sie sich um mich gekümmert haben, als ich es am meisten brauchte. bis später.
This song kills me every time. My dad and mom divorced when I was 7 or 8 and my sister was a baby then, my mom is a mother of 4. I heard this song in 2019, months before getting married. And I used it at my wedding to dance with my mom in front of all my guests because she gave me everything I needed to be a responsible man. Recently, I celebrated three years of marriage. Thanks, mom!
Never seen, met, and even haven't known anything about my dad. The only thing i ever knew was that he left us only for another family he was building with another woman...i was listening to this last night, and it made me tear up, knowing my mom remained strong and hoping i would stay strong too. I also remembered when i was little and thinking growing up without a dad was smh normal and complete, but then challenges came; like how many people would ask me everyday about where my dad is, and i couldn't tell them anything cause i never knew where he is and was. Thanks Sum 41, and other bands who made songs like these that dedicates to people having struggles ❤❤❤

Thanks bro:)
You truly can be the man U want to be! Keep your path clean, and your feelings true.
Best of luck!
Rock on!

To be honest because it's so personal to Deryck and clearly about his upbringing I think it's right it's just him in the video.

I'm the middle child and my dad just never showed up again and I relate everything to this song. This song can also be relating to someone who struggles with mental health as well. I read some of the comments on here and teared up. This song makes me cry. I love you all who are struggling listening to this song. ♥️♥️
Lagu hebat drpd band yg aku layan dr high school sampai dah ada 2 anak...

This band, it was my favorite band when i was 8 years old. I still love them so much and they mean the world to me. I'm 20 now.
Same here rob
Another beautiful track, thank you sum 41❤️🔥
It's not Bohemian Rhapsody...still makes me cry..for me it's favorite Sum song ...and ye I'm Still waiting and Hell Song kid ..this is something else ❤
I love the part where the boy is progressively getting better at skateboarding, and when he does the biggest jump he even has people watching and admiring him. Running away from a past life to rebuild a new one to mature and get stronger.
Stoked you caught that!
I feel like it was a call back to their early music video swimming pool parties too
This album is so awesome and most of the songs punch me in the face with awesome heavier rock music and then this song comes on and makes my eyes water up, full of emotions. I love this album so much. Great job Sum 41
Persis kek kehidupan gue 5 tahun lalu :( terlahir dalam keluarga broken home memang kutukan yang paling mengerikan .. LOVE FROM INDONESIA ♥️
hang in there. Jangan biarin masa lalu nyetir masa depan lo (attau siapa pun yg relate to this comment). Pada akhirnya pendewasaan artinya kita yang menentukan what we're gonna do about stuff. salam

His voice, the instuments, the song. PERFECT

My God, that's good music, right in the style I like. Thank you SUM 41
Our kids are our future, my sons lost their mom about 4 months ago, my goal is to be in their life for everything they need, and always,
"I addressed this letter to 'dear father'
I know you as complete unknown
I guess it's better you don't bother
All our truth should be left alone"
WhiteWolf Deryck showed he has grown to express his emotions with Never There. In a way, it’s kind of like a Dear Father PtII? haha
WhiteWolf great lyrics
I hope Sum 41 will be always there. Holy sh*t this is so good.
He’s looking so good now and healthy, well done Deryk
This song is really coming out from deryck's heart.

This reminds me 2000s music era! So amazing there's somebody still making a quality music with deep feelings poured into it. This feels like home

Yo también soy de España jajaja

I heard this song in 2019, months before getting married. And I used it at my wedding to dance with my mom in front of all my guests because she gave me everything I needed to be a responsible man. Recently, I celebrated three years of marriage. Thanks, mom!
bro thank you for giving up the drugs/alcohol-life and coming back for us in this time of need.
Wow, I have my 2 parents, but still... This song had touched my soul. You're big, Deryck. ❤🙏

You say it best Broter❤✌👍👌

nah
I mean a few naked girls would be okay lol
True words man! 👊
I know what it's like to be growing up without father because I have a friend that have the same story as you.His father was an alcoholic and had been abusive towards both him and his mother.
@@AzizDoufikar2280 his was more tough, hope he'd stay strong
After pieces, sum 41 made another beautiful emotional song...that made me cry again🙁...
Thank you from Italy🇮🇹🙏
"What Am I to Say" is pretty emotional too
Some say is also a emotional one too
Totally beautiful song when you make them with soul and love to your mom
I love Blink 182, but honesty this song is something they should learn from on how to write new music, amazing deryck!
blink is shit right now.. sum 41, even angels and airwaves plays better music than shitty pop. I have been listening blink for years but after Toms break out they are another pussypop for teenage band
@@Larra182 Hey lets not say "even Angels and Airwaves"! Angels and Airwaves are awesome and prove that Tom doesn't need Mark but Mark needs Tom.
