No he was definitely trying to be funny here and got smacked down beautifully by Gervais.
What I love about Graham Norton is that he is not afraid to have comedians on his show. A lot of show hosts don't want people to upstage them, but Graham is different. The two of them combined is just priceless, god I love Ricky.
And Louis Walsh's bubbly personality came through and made the segment funnier 😅
You know what makes this clip funnier? Towards the end, we see Ricky's thought process working. I don't think he immediately settled into the decision to end the call abruptly but rather he flipped through his rolodex of revenge to pick the best way to be humorous, succinct, and impactful. Making that final decision is what makes him a great comedian.
Yeah its a lot like footballers, no? At the top level everyone has wide arsenal of incredible skills, but what separates the great ones is the decisions they make in those final moments in front of the goal

I LOVE Danny Evans!! He sent me an autographed picture along with his CD, and I've enjoyed hearing him on TH-cam the past 5 years. I love going back there and I do feel like Louis was hard on him. I was crying when he sang "To where you are" and as he took a breath, you could easily hear a cry in his voice. He was truly singing to his deceased wife that night. I love Louis also but he has been harsh at times.

The name Gervais was originally French so the "S" isn't pronounced. It's pronounced: gervai or gervay,,.
Frenchies are pretty stupid though..
Pronunciation is contextual and cultural - It's person specific when it comes to names basically.
His Mum used to phone him up on his old XFM radio show and tell him off for pronouncing his own name wrong. His dad was French Canadian. It's meant to be pronounced 'Ger-vay', and that was how he pronounced it growing up. Dunno why he changed it; just to make it easier I suppose.
Felix Burke you're right. On the old XFM radio shows, he used to ring his mum up every now and then and she kept on telling him to stop pronouncing the 's'. Nevertheless, Ricky chose to say it the English way. :D
