Since there is some confusion in the comment section about Barry's use of the word 'guru', and as this (to me) is THE core element of the teaching I'll try to clarify it: In 'BL terms' it is always: Guru = the Master = I Whenever Barry uses the terms 'guru/master' for another being, it's an acknowledgement (of the realisation of the One I), not a defamation. In fact, Barry Long's teaching doesn't work without these terms (and the correct understanding of them) and without facing/ accepting/ realising the authority of the Master, the only true authority there is. But, of course, that's what triggers the self with its false authority the most, and so it furiously protests and projects (as it did in me!) and wants to turn away ... while at the same time being strangely attracted. That's how it works. Because it is so important, I'm taking the opportunity now to post a transcript I made of a statement from the Tamborine Mountain Talks. It's one of the first entries, quite at the beginning, and it really clarifies it. But still and because the self can't ever hear straight, I had enormous difficulties, especially with this piece, at the beginning. Now I understand. Isn't that powerful? (This statement about the Master - the one who has realised the One I - is not even missing the topic of 'the human brain & existence' because: *Whose* brain is it that projects all of existence?) __________________________________ Barry Long: The Master _(from: Tamborine Mountain Talks)_ Now I'd like to talk to you about the Master. You've probably heard it said that no one can be liberated without the presence of Guru, the Master. It's an Eastern tradition, difficult for the Western mind to accept. But it is the truth, and I'm going to show you how it works. Why do you need a Master? How would you explain to your mother or father, your sceptical friends or the very clever world around you why you need a Master? Aren't you as intelligent and able as they? Or are you some sort of weakling? The answer to these questions is in the answer to the question 'What is the Master?'. The Master is the only power on earth that can stop you thinking, stop the subtle torment of your mind without loss of your individuality or consciousness. The Master - I - do not think. Until you can say 'I do not think' the Master will always appear outside of you in some other body. In this instance a body called Barry Long, where I say 'I do not think'. But I am outside of you, you notice. There is only one Master in the entire universe and I am that. I am external to you in another body now, because you are not the Master yet. You have not realised I, the Master inside of you. When you do, there will be no need of the external Master in another body, called Barry Long. So you see the integrity of it: *Guru, the Master, or I are all One.* And until you can be the Master of yourself - which is only to be the Master of your mind, for what else is there to be the Master of? - until you are the Master, the Master appears outside of you. So you cannot make it without the Master. Without having the Master to talk to you as I am talking to you now or without being the Master when you no longer need the external Master. That is what you are doing. I, in the body of Barry Long, am approaching you. I am coming towards you from within. I am saying 'There is only one Master, and I am within you'. But until you can real-ise that, I will have to stay outside of you and speak to you through another body. It is because you will insist on thinking, thinking of the past and thinking of tomorrow, that you are not the Master. Give up thinking of the past, thinking of tomorrow, trying to work things out - for that is thinking - about life and love and truth and death and just Be, and you will be the Master. Do you see what a Master is? Can you give up all your abstract notions of what the Master is? The Master who is going to liberate you and free you, touch you on the head, give you some psychic experience, which will excite you and then drive you down to hell again with the torment of the mind because you won't be able to hold it? I, the Master, am here to give you nothing, but yourself. I, the Master, will not stay outside of you. I, the Master, know what I am doing. And here I must tell you how you can recognise the Master. The Master, whether outside of you in another body or whether the Master is inside you: The Master is always free of unhappiness. The Master has no problems, for the Master is I. And as I am alone in the universe, as I am the only intelligence, the only life, the only perceiver of all that is beautiful, then I have no need to think, for I am always present. He or she who thinks is not present, cannot be the Master. Do you see this? Do you see that you indulge yourself as some reflection of the Master and call yourself I? That this reflection of the Master I, which you call I mistakingly, is the source of fear, confusion, self-doubt and all the rest of the torment or worry? If you would look at the electric light when the sun is shining, then you will live a very, very empty life indeed. You must look at the sun. The sun is always shining within you. It is the sun, I, that does not think, because it is present. That does not need to think, because it is still, the intelligence that is listening now. That has no need of thought because in its vast intelligence and ability to receive the truth, understands and comprehends and is without any reflection whatever. For if you are open to what I am saying, you are already feeling the stillness of the Master - I - within you. For I speak only through this body because I cannot enter your body sufficiently or rise in your body sufficiently because you are so busy there when there is nothing to be busy about. Be still. Do not try to work it out. There is nothing to work out. The mind has never worked out anything worthwhile yet, because all it works out is how to build a more comfortable and progressive world. The mind has never worked out anything to do with love and life and truth and death yet. Only I can do that. And because I am the Master of the mind, of all things, there is nothing to work out, nothing to improve, just something to find: The Stillness, the Mastery of Love.
What Barry means is that the world you see in which you believe your body is either anticipated or remembered. None of that actually takes place in the Now. The now for most is really the past or anticipation in the present. It is our own thought that creates the physical world and memory that maintains it. That's how the dream world works. You are the dreamer of the dream. The entirety of the projection of thought that you're experiencing requires the human brain to experience that. Clearly a lot of what he's talking about here is in the context of his talk. So if you try to listen to it with your current paradigm of what words mean then you're likely to miss what he's saying. He's really talking about practical living. He's not saying that there isn't life after human death. After the body. If you listen to some of the other Gold Coast talks he discusses life in the other. An extraordinary world of angels. That said like many others here. I don't agree with all of his points and that's okay. You can't argue with practical living. You can't argue with learning to live peacefully within the consciousness of the human brain, while you learn that your real mind is beyond it.
This is seriously flawed. If you want to see an in depth commentary, order by "Newest First" since I had to rewrite it due to my rather "unstable" gadfly here, you hear me. I guess the algorithms don't like that.

Barry Long: The Master
_(from: Tamborine Mountain Talks)_
Now I'd like to talk to you about the Master.

The brain telling the brain that everything’s in the brain. We are funny.
what the hell does anyone know about the brain..
