HOW TO GET TO KUSATSU ONSEN
The most straightforward way to reach Kusatsu from Tokyo is by highway bus from Shinjuku, which takes up to four hours. Alternatively, you can take the Hokuriku Shinkansen from Tokyo or Ueno Station to Karuizawa and then transfer to a bus to Kusatsu.
Renting a car is also a great option, as it allows you to explore other destinations in Nagano or Gunma Prefecture at your convenience.

1. It is highly recommended to book a room with both breakfast and dinner when staying in Kusatsu. The town has very few restaurants, making the hotel's breakfast a convenient and reliable choice.
Regarding dinner (and breakfast in some hotels), it is essential to arrive at your hotel's restaurant on time. If you are significantly late, the hotel may refuse to serve you, even if you have already paid for the meal.
2. As with many other destinations in Japan, most public onsens do not permit tattoos. If you wish to enjoy a hot spring experience, it’s best to book accommodations that offer private onsens for a more comfortable and relaxing soak.
3. Most accommodations on the list offer complimentary transfers to and from the bus terminal. However, in most cases, you must inform the hotel and book the transfer in advance, as walk-ins may not be accepted.
