    What in the world is this new kind of quilling that has taken the hobby industry by storm lately called “paper filigree painting” or by the company name, “Uniquilling”??!
    In this step-by-step tutorial video, I will take you through the entire process…from tools to tips, tricks and techniques that I learned along the way during my first paper filigree painting project.
    Here are some of the topics I will cover throughout this video:
    1: What comes in the kit?
    2: Tools & Other Optional Recommended Supplies
    3: Prepping the EVA Foam Board
    4: What Kind of Glue Is Best
    5: Having The Most Success With The Tools
    6: Reading the Pattern Booklet
    7: Demonstrating How to Measure, Cut & Place the Paper
    8: Working with Shapes & Curves
    9: How-To Handle the Paper in Tricky Spots
    What can I say? I'M OBSESSED!! I want ALL of the kits (let’s be reasonable though…these projects will take a while 😉 to complete after seeing how long the tiny circles took in the center of those flowers, right?! 🤪) But I have learned a lot of tips & tricks along the way with my first Paper Filigree Painting, so I knew I needed to share that information with you.
    I hope you found this tutorial helpful and worth the wait. ;) Be sure to subscribe while you're here, so you don't miss a thing!

    I know this is an older video but by far your video is THE best in explaining each step and showing us all how to do it ourselves. I love how you methodically went through your list of recommended supplies to help make this project go smoothly too! Love this project and you are pretty darn amazing! Thank you!

    Your video is wonderful. I happened to have purchased from the same company. The board looked like it hadn't been cut deep enough. After watching you, I understand why it was not very deep. You also thoroughly explained how to do everything and I mean everything. Thank you!

    Pinterest showed many quilled pictures of this art form and I immediately fell in love with “quilling.”
    Presently quilling my son’s and his new wife’s wedding announcement in this technique. My husband drew the picture and am thrilled with his interpretation. I am obsessed to say the least!!!

    I absolutely adore paper quilling, and then I discovered uniquilling!! Oh my gosh. I am so enamored, my only problem was I didn't know how to do it! Then I found you. Thank you so much for going one step at a time and explaining the little things. I have a seven year old grandson, so I can relate. I hope to have many pleasant videos in my future!

      Yes! I was exactly the same…I haven’t done quilling in years, although I have a kit here to do for review. As soon as I saw the new Uniquilling kits, I was like “SQUIRREL!” Lol! I have looked up every company and every kit…although I did purchase from one other (soulnecklace), I have not received anything nor seen any movement on the tracking in weeks. So they will probably be getting a “Scam” video soon. Anyway, I’m in love with this. I am so happy you found my video!

    Hello again Melanie,
    Last night I attempted my quilling set once again and by the grace of God it began working well. I don’t know what occurred when I had made my first attempt previously which was just some hours prior. Even my hubby tried assisting me and he as well did not get through with it but I decided to try again last night and it was a success. Also the tweezers began working properly as well. I am using the glue that you recommended in your video.
    It’s amazing how it wasn’t working out at first and then just hours afterwards it was a major difference. I am enjoying it tremendously. I do humbly apologize for not giving it more time before I had sent you my first msg on it by stating it was not properly made.

    Hi, I'm a newbie, Just found your video. I just bought a kit from Amazon, my 1st one, not from Uniquilling, and it didn't come with an instruction booklet. It has a color chart with 12 colors. For never doing or seeing one, it is very confusing. Your video helped answer a lot of questions. Guess I just have to dive in LOL. Glad to know about the glue and the mounting board, I would have never known. Thank you!

Then I saw these kits, and I was like, “Well, they gave me a coupon, so I’ll buy three bc I can get free shipping.” Then I had another coupon for a review…and I bought three more. Then they let me pick a free kit for my review……you see where this is going? 🙄 Let the hoarding commence…🤦🏻‍♀️ I have the flowers, the whale, the stocking, the blue dragon, the seahorse, the parrot & the elephant (side view). Thanks for the video! I know this is an "older" video, not-so-new craft, but I JUST discovered paper filigree/ uniquilling. I am obsessed with diamond painting, so I thought I might like this too. I don't have drawing talent, so I was glad to find this video about uniquilling, which I think I can do because the tracks are so helpful. I haven't tried uniquilling yet, but after watching your video, I think I'll give it a shot. Your video is so helpful explaining all the tools & techniques, best practices/ tricks and hacks (like the gluing the EVA foam board to foam presentation board. I do have one request/ critique about the video; when flashing text across the screen to explain something or give more detail about a step, it would be helpful to have the text displayed for longer time. I kept having to pause the video, drag the video progress bar back and replay that screen and the text flashed by so quickly, I usually missed it the first time and had to replay it. As a slower reader, it's harder to keep up when text flashes by and disappears too quickly, make it frustrating to watch a video like that if I have to keep backing it up and find that spot in the video and replay it. But otherwise informative and fun video.

    • @MelanieBsCreativeStudio
      @MelanieBsCreativeStudio  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I think since I published this video I started leaving text up longer for this reason. Thank you for your feedback, as it is truly helpful! I hope you have UniQuilling a try. I love the 3D effect it has when completed!

    Hello Melanie
    I watched your instructional video and I liked it very much. You explained clearly and thoroughly. I purchased a quilling set for the first time and attempted to try it out today. Unfortunately, it was horrible. It’s made in China, the coloured paper is flimsy unlike yours and the tweezers are even holding the paper properly, it was defective. Also, they didn’t even send the instructional map so I had to use my discretion by just looking at the picture of the parrot. The slotted pattern on the foam wasn’t even deep enough and the paper was not sticking. It was badly made.
    May I please ask your opinion in selecting the best quilling set that’s available for a beginner such as myself.

    Unfortunately I got my kit from Milo Quilling. Essentially identical except when I turn over the color guide, there are no numbered sketches that correspond to where the color goes on the outline. Your tips are definitely needed. These are time consuming projects. I gave up and went back to quilling without the slots. Its much more forgiving! LOL

    Has anyone tried to gluing it to a thin piece of wood or paneling? I don't think it would bend that. Also, another thought would be to put a stitch in each corner using a thick string and then hide a few within the picture? I know it would be loose in spots but that may give it enough movement room so it won't bend but give it enough stability. I've never done one of these before but VERY intrigued.

    • @MelanieBsCreativeStudio
      @MelanieBsCreativeStudio  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      My only concern with attaching the foam to wood or paneling is that there is so much acid and lignin in that material that this piece would yellow and deteriorate so quickly. The foam board I used is acid- and lignin-free, so that’s why I immediately went that route…just because of this being a delicate type of artwork. I may need to come back in another video and address that topic. I’m a huge believer in preservation, and I know some people don’t worry much about that, but when I spend a lot of time on a project, I do want to try to preserve it as long as possible. The stability of wood or paneling would be great, but the EVA foam against it is something I need to look into further…🤔.

    Thanks for the tips, I've just received my first Uniquilling kit and saw your unboxing video on their website. I've done some conventional quilling but was attracted to their gorgeous designs. Can't wait to get started! Have you framed your finished piece? If so, what did you use? I wondered about a box frame, but they come up quite deep (and expensive!) or maybe just a conventional frame without the glass.

    • @MelanieBsCreativeStudio
      @MelanieBsCreativeStudio  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I haven’t completely finished mine yet, because I’ve been recording a lot, and so I haven’t framed it, but I have a plan though…here is what I was thinking.
      First, I definitely recommend anti-reflective glass or high-end acrylic (I was a custom framing Manager at Michael’s for two years before TH-cam), so I’m all about seeing my artwork behind the glass/acrylic. The thing is that these will definitely require some kind of glazing (glass or acrylic) for protection, because the EVA foam attracts everything but men & money. 😂 Also the layers of paper will be dust-collectors but will be impossible to dust without damaging the piece, so I was thinking I would get a 16x20” shadowbox or display frame when Michael’s (or HL) has their amazing buy 1 get 2 free sales, or something really great like that, and use those. The piece should set down deep enough to allow for the 3-D art, and if it needs to be set closer to the glass, I can add a layer or two of foam board behind it to lift it. What do you think of that idea? Right now Michael’s has a white shadowbox frame for $24-25. White would set of the colors of the flowers in this piece…and since there is no black or gray, white would be my first choice. A custom frame could cost a couple of hundred dollars, and as much as I LOVE custom framing, I ain’t about that life for this project. 😂 I will go to the custom framing counter and upgrade my glass from the glass that comes with the frame to the anti-reflective kind to prevent the paper from UV damage, discoloration and moisture.
      So that’s my plan. Eventually I would like to do a video on that. Maybe I can get Uniquilling to send me one of their frames so I can see how theirs work and whether it’s worth the extra cost to purchase at the time of placing an order.

      @@MelanieBsCreativeStudio Hi Mel, thanks for the reply, and the suggestions. I hadn't thought about the dust-collecting issue, but you're so right! I'm in the UK, so would need to look for different suppliers. I've found a couple on Amazon which seem suitable, without being extortionate! They come with acrylic as it's safer to post, and not so heavy to hang - 16"x20" is quite a big frame. As you say, the depth is a bit of an issue - it needs to be deep enough for the paper, EVA board and backing board without being so deep that the effect is lost. Do you think it would be possible to use the backboard of the frame to stick the EVA board to, to keep it flat?

    • @MelanieBsCreativeStudio
      @MelanieBsCreativeStudio  2 ปีที่แล้ว
