This is the best gameplay of Tetris I have ever seen, especially since this is on NES and there is no Hold. I have watched this several times, trying to understand all this guy's strategy. I can find no videos or written tutorials about strategy at this high level. Of course, I know about T-spinning and to always try to get a Tetris for max score.... I mean the strategy of how to place the blocks like this guy does. I notice that he always leaves the right column clear for the I-piece (except for once when he had to cleanup a little, but quickly got back to this aforementioned setup). I also notice that he never (except maybe once) has to fix a 3 square tall canyon (I don't know the lingo, lol) with an I-piece. Again, this gameplay is amazing, and I view it as the best tutorial on how to play Tetris. It would be awesome if this guy would actually make a tutorial, or a commentary of his thought-process during this gameplay, but this will suffice.
Both Jonas and Harry have told me they have gotten it slightly earlier. Twin Galaxies did put everyone who has the max score as #1 and sorted it by the date it was achieved. Right now, the twin galaxies site is just getting back up and running and it is all messed up.
Depending on the level you start at, it switches levels at different line amounts. If you start at level 9 or lower, it would have went to level 19 at 190 lines. From tetris concept this is how it works: "(startLevel × 10 + 10) OR max(100, (startLevel × 10 - 50)) lines, whatever comes first, the level advances by 1. After this, the level advances by 1 for every 10 lines." At level 29 (which doesn't happen in this video), the speed increases so much that you die quickly (the killscreen level).
Impressive. I wonder if we could get Twin Galaxies to sort them in order of first the number of lines when maxout was obtained (lower the better) and tie breakers then by "true score". That would make things interesting.
Exactly...it is available on many other different streaming services as well and you can buy a DVD. Check the movie's website (the link is in video description) for all the info.
That may give you a slight advantage...try it. Unless you have already played lots of tetris, it takes a while. Kitaru (who recently got the 5th maxout) still took about 2 years to do this even though he had been playing for 4 years or something and had beaten different grand master series by the time he started playing the NES version.
You got NINETY (90) long bars and 70 of the other pieces in that game. That is essentially the dream RNG sequence of pieces. Except for the very beginning you always got a long bar when needed and were never close to topping out. Well done. Wish I could get that rng.
@mabu100 well... its not really super important. This does leave it with a certain air of mystery. But if you do choose to you can always use the replace audio funtion. The first thing i yell after a good game is my wifes name as well :)
That is pretty awesome. I usually like to start at level 0 then progress as far as I can. Seems like you get a super high score much faster if you start at higher level. I will have to start doing that. I love nes and GB tetris. They are so much more challenging then newer versions of the game. I hate how newer versions on the DS let you infinitely spin a piece to prevent it from dropping. That completely ruins the experience for me.
But if Buco plays on he could score 6 more tetrises before killscreen which would make the score over 1.2 Million points!! What a pity we couldn't see what happened after the maxout.
Yes. But at the time of this recording no one knew about the Game Genie code to make the score go higher than the Maxout. So it's a tied world record at the time.
YEAHHH
i started talking to my wife, so i didn't put it all up. if you really want me to i can do it later when i get home.
Please do it.

Sims Dreamer if you liked this you should check out the ctwc channel. Hours upon hours of gameplay at this same level of play

it's the world record because it's the max score.

@spirit2fusion like i said in the description, it take years of practice to get this good, but i started getting good by just playing on level 19

Yeah!
Also, 7:53 score 980083.
Also, I am very much looking forward to that tetris documentary now heh.

how does one become this skilled at tetris?? I almost instantly lose when it gets to full speed lol
He gets incredibly well spread out long pieces.
Matt, you should add Tetris to your tags, so more people can find it. Congrats again.
My "yeah" would be insane if I practiced that long
Wow I also commend you. My top score was in the 600,000 and I always had trouble surviving very long after the level 19 forced-fall rate hit.

whoa, by tomorrow this will likely become the most viewed non-TAS NES Tetris video on youtube... VIRAL!!!!
You just said "yeah"? There has to be a better way to celebrate this. Like a... Tetris Party!
That is the last ending...any score over 120,000 gets that.
If i score 205691 and barely play the game. Do i have potential?
Are you home yet?
Holy shit. I bow to your goodness
where can u see the documentar?
You got to level 18 with a mostly clear board and it just goes "FUCK YOU, LINE BLOCKS EVERYWHERE!"
But if Buco plays on he could score 6 more tetrises before killscreen which would make the score over 1.2 Million points!! What a pity we couldn't see what happened after the maxout.
I am curious about the rest of the game as well... but the first bit (the part where you max) WOW!!!!!!!
Man you're a king of the tetris!
why did it go to level 19 at 130 lines?
What doesn't make sense to me is how you start on level 18, and you hit level 20 in just 150 lines.
Kagrin Dragoon there is a weird feature that takes you to level 18 that is mentioned in the tetris guide that came with the game
Ah okay. Thanks for letting me know.
No problem bro
Advice to all of you Tetris-players: Don't get over-confident. Don't stack too high. Don't strive for Tetris (4 lines at once) all the time.
No hold and no sliding & rotating either. Once a block hits the bottom, that's it, it's down.
Why the Nes version is used as the standard?
MaQuGo119 because it's harder because there's no hold or hard drop
It’s the not only the definitive version but it’s the best
hope you didnt pull a billy mitchell
Shout out to the hispanic music playing on the background.
How is it possible to choose "level 8" to start, and when the game opens hes already on level 18? Is this a rom hack or something?
I found my own answer. You hold down A while pushing start on 1-9....1=11 and 9 = 19
@@noahmaximus8241 You can also do it with 0 and get 10
@@eduardo_moya Thats true!
Excuse me, how?
Basically, you're screwed.
Killer! Nice job Matt!
Clearly hacked- you actually got the line piece when you needed it.
Nah, more like he did many runs and got good RNG in this one.
NES Tetris - Nein! Nein! Nein! Nein! Nein! Nein!
