This Picanto is just as fast as the Alfa Romeo 1.5 Sud TI I had in the 80's.and is just as much fun.Take it from me that's fast enough in today's congested and speed camera controlled motoring world. All the car that most drivers really need.
Wife has the line S model...keyless...heated seats and steering wheel..digital climate control..elec roof.....wireless phone charging ....spec is insane for a small car
Good thing is you can tune them to make 105kw pretty easily. The same engine is used in the Rio and cee'd and in some configurations it makes 95kw(or something) already. But it has been down tuned. I've seen a couple clips where it's on the Dyno and they say you can really see the system is trying hard to keep power under 75kw
This is an excellent review,, to the point that you've actually convinced me to look into actually getting one, that impressed with your review, my missis has just bought a 2019 Cerato which ain't really my cup of tea, but this little picanto would remind me of nutting it through the lanes of rural Surrey in me 81 Ford Fiesta XR2 , Fun, being the operative word..
X Line is about 7.6cms higher, hence the hilarious claim that it's a "Crossover" [ie. a cross over to a small SUV]. Personally, I'd love Kia to REALLY do a properly true jacked up micro X Line based on Picanto but built to look rugged like the slightly too wide Hyundai Venue.
It's called the GT-Line S in the UK which has 99 bhp and it's brilliant for zipping around our narrow, windy roads; and for darting in and out of traffic in town. A bit noisy on the motorway though owing to only having five years; but great, great fun
The stiffest springs available, tuning from the local Kia Australia suspension guru and a quicker map for the steering. All of this unique to the GT and, I believe, readily available information.
Waiting for my 2023 astro grey - due December 2022 or January 2023. I'd argue for younger buyers this may not be seen as a hot hatch but for us petrol heads born in the late 60's or early 70's, our dream car was likely a Peugeot 205 GTi 1.6, which performance wise is not that far away from this, power to weight wise. All the red highlighting, alloys, fun handling etc amount to a hot hatch for us oldies. Oh and economy that's hard to beat if you just bimble. That's why I ordered. Plus it looks ace.
Great review and very informative. Thank you. I'm test driving an x model tomorrow although it's automatic.... hopefully it will be as much fun. Cheers, DEB T (NZ)
@@hoju.namja. i was thinking of the sport version, but there is a big price difference. The picanto is a good city car and great value, plus its looks great.
In a couple of years time this will make a good replacement for my Renault Twingo GT which has a very similar power to weight ratio but is no longer sold here in the UK. I would guess the Picanto will do 0-100 Km/h in about 9.5 seconds or a little less in your performance tests. Very informative review, BTW.
Twingo 2 TCE GT- owner here too. Great little car. 125BHP/205Nm after remap. 955kg of fun. This Picanto needs a bit more oomph, but the quality is better. Nice little car.
@@sussex_reef559 For avoidance of doubt, I own the Twingo GT 2014 0.9 Tce version with the 110 hp engine. The first three gears are very low and it accelerates up to 60 MPH as quickly as the Peugeot 205 GTi 1.6 I drove in the late 1980s. Handling is good and the traction control masks that it's a rear engined car. I find it great on a long run and the totally flat torque curve between 2,000 and 5,000 revs give it diesel like hill climbing ability whilst still returning 44 mpg. But I would defer to the mark 2 version as a proper warm hatch as it is ultimately faster and has better handling as it is front-engined.
Very good review, what would the insurance be like for a first time car (18 year old)? And also, how reliable are these 1.0L turbos because they're great engines?
Sounds interesting for me,1.0cc turbocharger is getting smile in my face. Well,..it not supercars, but it okay for me,..it like a delicious meal for myself.😀😀😀
Interesting what you say about the suspension etc. A few other reviews I've seen have stated that the GT in Aus comes with slightly stiffer suspension and slightly tuned steering. Would be good to know for sure though
Rio still have the same torque though ;) I'd say they've cheated a smidge and extended the redline on the Rio. Plus they've got that DCT to power and extra weight.
Got a better idea they should have dropped the old 1.6 na they used in the Kia Rio and Hyundai used in the accent then it would have been a lot more fun and a serious warmmor hot hatch
Also a shame that KIA Australia 'cheaped out' on some of the interior specs. Other markets get push button start, electric sunroof (great for our four seasons!) and heated seats and drivers only, cooled seat buttons placed ahead of the gear shift..instead we get 3, ugly blanked off bits.
Not a complete review without the vrooom ssssss STU TU TU TU from the turbo. Would be nice if the turbo model came in a auto. The wife cant drive a manual so not a good option if she needs the car.
I see the point of these cars for young and old females but how any bloke can say they'd own one just confuses me. If you're interested in cars enough to buy the higher powered GT version how do you justify buying a car like this in the first place ?

This is my new approach to cars I think. Currently have a accord 2.4, its smooth and nice but.... no space to open her up

Love the fact he compared a picanto to a Clio RS 😆
Same number plate with my car😁. But i am using jazz for 3 years already. Consider of changing to this sporty picanto GT cause it look cool.
