So excited for this series, and so grateful to everyone who has worked on it for the last 2+ years. Really grateful it's finally here. -John p.s. Clint Smith's forthcoming book How the Word Is Passed is one of the best books I've ever read. It comes out on June 1st.
So glad Crash Course is doing this. I'm neither Black, nor American, but we all benefit from learning your history it's such a vital part of the global work of decolonization.
This is sounds amazing! I was in a discussion with someone a few days ago who said, "systemic racism is a farce" and honestly had no idea of the Jim Crowe laws that were instituted after slavery, or the exclusion from New Deal programs, or exclusion from housing programs in the 1980s, or the disparity in the criminal justice system, etc. This series is so needed right now!
This is really incredible. As a homeschool mom, i'm always looking for our history told for us and by us. while there are plenty of sources out there, this course is by FAR the best i've found. The delivery, tone, narration just...chef's kiss. I really appreciate the time and consideration taken in this course and so happy my son now has this as part of his curriculum.
I don't know why but knowing that there will now be a Black American history Crash Course makes me really emotional. Cried writing this comment... really excited for this!
As a Hispanic man, I am so happy to see this and looking forward to these upcoming videos. It will truly be an eye opener for many and I'm looking forward to learning new things.
I am German and work as an English teacher here in Germany. I love your Videos and regularly Show them to the students in my classroom . (Black ) American history is an important part in the English Curriculum in Germany schools 😊
These might be the most inspirational 6 minutes I've watched in a long while, and this is just an introduction. I believe that introducing an idea, enforcing it and giving it a personal connection is an artform in itself, and I am just astounded at this excellent delivery. With that, I'm eagerly expecting what Clint will help me understand next week.
Finally! Although I am not a Black/ African-American, I'm already excited for the next videos in this course. I hope Crash Course would be able to create courses of people's histories in different regions of the world. Crash course world history, while ilvery interesting, simply doesn't have the needed space to explore the rich and complex histories of different peoples in the world.
Wish there would be a Black British History series for the UK, since my community's history wasn't taught when I was in school but love to see black history being taught and represented period. Looking forward to this! 🖤
III!!!! So excited for Clint Smith. I loved listening to him on the Pod Save the People podcast back in the day. Can't wait to hear what he has to say.
Thank you Dr. Smith for sharing your story within this introduction. It nearly brought me to tears because I can relate. For so long I could see the results of what was done but I didn’t have the language or the historical knowledge to always explain why. There is nothing wrong with a demographic of people, what was wrong was the sins committed against them and the consequent stigma that led them to believe there was something wrong with them.
I've been watching Crash Course for a while now. You have no idea how happy it makes me to see both Clint Smith and the beautiful young woman who is doing Crash Course Zoology. Representation matters. I am so so proud you all for acting rather than pandering. I count you as an ally.
LETS GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! I am not African-American, but I am SO glad that this series exists. I hope that, in the future, Crash Course decides to go ahead and do similar series for other ethnic minorities, be it Latino, Asian, Pacific Islander, Native American, SO many possibilities to for more people to get their own series in the future. For now, though, I look forward to looking at this series and see it grow. Keep it up, Crash Course!!!
I am so, so excited for this series. As an American, I didn't learn enough about Black history in school, even though it's so much more important to our society than the European history we often focused on. Thank you, thank you for offering this education to us.
Excellent! I'm so glad this course is coming online, and so anticipating taking it with you, Dr. Smith. Thank you and thank you Crash Course for developing this course.
Watching from Pakistan. An avid reader of American history and I always wondered why doesn't someone do a Black American History which in many ways is the real American history or without which American History is truthless. Former foreign exchange student in Green bay Wisconsin and absolutely loved my time over there. Interestingly the friendliest people in the beginning of my year were African Americans and they helped me integrate in the American society.
I'm a high school history teacher, and I am super glad this series is finally being made. That being said, I'm a white male that teaches in a predominantly white school. I want to teach this course, but I know that I'm not the right voice to do it. Should I still go forward?
Just reminding you there are viewers from across the world, so if you have a chance to grapple with the history of blacks in England (for me) or other countries (like the brilliant black french generals and the black samurai in Japan) I’d love that in a future series on our history.
The thing that really surprises me is that it took this long for this series to be made. However, as a white viewer, I realize my responsibility in not having helped in creating more demand for it. I apologize for that. I'm looking forward to watching every episode because, having graduated HS in 1971, my knowledge of this dimension of American history remains woefully inadequate, especially considering its importance.
Why are there any significant dislikes this is one of the least controversial videos I have ever seen, like even white moderates should not be mad at basic agreeable notions Clint said.
I’m so thankful to you and to crash course channel for selecting this course, I am shocked of the information that I learned in this course , thank you so much for opening our minds and our souls and eyes . I appreciate all African American people and I admire their strength to defend themselves through history . I’m studying literature ❤ greetings from Iraq 🇮🇶
I am a dual citizen of the United States while I didn’t grow up there I grew up in Canada. I think that our education system would benefit greatly from learning about black American history and how it plays a role today in all countries especially Canada.
Just finished the course, after watching one lesson each week for a year. This gave me so much more context, understanding and language about Black history in the U.S. and how slavery was central to the American project - but does not singularly define the identity of the Black American.
Im here after watching KnowingBetter's video titled "Neoslavery". I cant believe all of this was left out when we were going through school. The standard American History Myth is a very real thing and Im glad that the truth is finally coming out.
Sounds and looks very interesting. Also seems we're not going to get 50 episodes of sadness and despair, a decent amount of episodes dedicated to the achievements of black Americans might help to not only make the series more true to history, but also lighten it up a little. Really looking forward to this!
After weeks of my teen learning about white guy after white guy in his homeschool curiculum I'd had enough. Did a youtube search and found this series. I am so glad I did! Thank you!
Ahhhh so excited for this series, crash course will always have me willing to learn especially for things as important as black history, can't wait to be more educated on this topic😁
Really looking forward to this series! Black history is something that has really interested me for quite some time and I hope this series will be an eye-opener not only for myself, but for everyone who watches it. This kind of stuff simply isn't taught in schools and it deserves to be.
I am thankful that we can finally discuss this openly and without shutting our minds because we might hear things that challenge our ideas. Leave it to Crash Course to do it right.
Looking forward to this. I usually just listen to Crash Course videos while doing a craft. This one really interests me because my southern, Jim Crow era education was very lacking in the true history of the people who built it. Mostly by forced slavery.
Thank you! Looking forward to this! As someone not from the US, I've been struggling to get a comprehensive context for the Black Lives Matter movement. I've been hearing & reading many isolated stories but struggle to bind them together.
This is so beautifully this is going to an amazing much needed series thank you for this so much !!! I’m excited to learn and unlearn. It is American history.
Crash Course with Dr. Clint Smith is an awesome place for the novice learner as well as the life long learner who go down the 🔍 proverbial rabbit holes everyday. 👌iamahistoryteacher❤
It would be awesome if you did a video on the Black entrepreneurs of the industrial era! This is a space where teachers of US History do not have as many resources, so this would be a great add. Plus give recognition to some of the names who created Black economic power in the era.
I always wanted to know why everything went in that way. I can't understand why some things are done or why there's a special behavior related to some people. Even if I will never understand some things, at least I will be able to know why that happened. Thank you CrashCourse and Mr. Smith!
Awesome. It would be great to learn black American history before slavery ie the black people who lived thriving lives in Africa thousands of years prior to American slavery
Congratulations for covering this subject. Actually, I am not from the United states ( sorry for any gramatical errors), but it makes me really excited to learn a little bit more about my ancestor`s history, even though I am not considerated black in my country (they call me mulata, a black and white daughter).
So excited for this series, and so grateful to everyone who has worked on it for the last 2+ years. Really grateful it's finally here. -John
p.s. Clint Smith's forthcoming book How the Word Is Passed is one of the best books I've ever read. It comes out on June 1st.
So glad Crash Course is doing this. I'm neither Black, nor American, but we all benefit from learning your history it's such a vital part of the global work of decolonization.
I haven't been this excited about watching a CC series since the OG World History and & Philosophy courses
John in them series was gold, European john was a bit old for me 😂
Same!
This is sounds amazing! As Clint said, "Black history is American History." Every day I am learning more and more the extent to which this statement is true.
Thank you for saying “black history is American history” because there’s a lot of division right now
I don't know why but knowing that there will now be a Black American history Crash Course makes me really emotional. Cried writing this comment... really excited for this!
very emotional person
Wow, 2+ years of work and 50 episodes?! Amazing. I can’t wait to learn with this series. Thanks, Crash Course!
As a Hispanic man, I am so happy to see this and looking forward to these upcoming videos. It will truly be an eye opener for many and I'm looking forward to learning new things.

I finished school years ago, I just come back to Crash Course for every History series, they're all so good.
That makes us two
Crash course theatre is more like crash course theatre history if you haven’t given it a watch I would highly recommend
my mouth dropped open as soon as i saw the thumbnail. thank you so much. i’m so happy right now
CrashCourse is about to teach what a lot of American schools don't want to
After seeing Clint Smith in this course, respect for crash course skyrocketed.

I am so thrilled that CC has created a Black History course!!
I'm so unbelievably excited for this series
Finally! Although I am not a Black/ African-American, I'm already excited for the next videos in this course.

Not even black but I am stoked to see American history through another lense/perspective!

Yes! 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼 So many people need awareness! I do hope crash course makes a few episodes about hispanic, latin backgrounds as well. 🙏🏼 🇵🇷
Yooo, we got Clint Smith for this? Yes!
Why are there any significant dislikes this is one of the least controversial videos I have ever seen, like even white moderates should not be mad at basic agreeable notions Clint said.

No one taught US this stuff either. I look forward to watching, listening, learning, being uncomfortable, and learning some more.

Was tipped off about this series and channel, looking forward to checking this out.

Awesome! I'll definitely be showing some of these in my U.S. history class.
Really looking forward to this and always enjoy listening to Dr Clint Smith III share knowledge.
I am very excited to learn more about Black History. I cannot wait for future videos.
Looking forward to this. I usually just listen to Crash Course videos while doing a craft. This one really interests me because my southern, Jim Crow era education was very lacking in the true history of the people who built it. Mostly by forced slavery.
Thank you crash course!!! This is so meaningful
Thanks Petol! Shared!!👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Thank you! Looking forward to this! As someone not from the US, I've been struggling to get a comprehensive context for the Black Lives Matter movement. I've been hearing & reading many isolated stories but struggle to bind them together.
