I have that exact same percolator, and we use it in the Winter. It makes the _best_ coffee, and fills the house early morning with that magical aroma. It saves money too, as it requires less beans to brew compared to drip coffee.
My adult son and I live off-grid on 100% solar and wind power. My batteries are 20 years old now, and don't hold a charge as well as they used to, so we avoid using electricity until the sun is shining on the panels. We percolate coffee on our gas stove when we first get up to feed chickens, gather eggs, and let the goats out of their pen to graze.
We do without a lot of modern conveniences, some people ask what we do for entertainment. I tell them, "We're gonna party like it's 1899!"😃
For years we had no TV, but the best entertainment was occuring outside where we watch from the porch and windows. I mean, have you seen baby goats play? There is nothing I love more than watching that show! Every "episode" is different.
This morning we had a new "show", dozens of tiny baby quail running around under the watchful eye of their parents. Darling little birdies!💗

Coffee percolators are still made and sold. Just go to the camping section of a sporting goods store! BTW they make great coffee if you use the right amount of coffee in it. Some stores still sell bean coffee that you grind at the store, or you can buy a very inexpensive grinder and do it yourself.

I knew the stovetop percolator right away! That's how everyone we knew made their coffee. Some did get fancy and started putting a flat circle filter in before putting in the coffee grounds, but that was considered "extra". 🤭
Then, those that had gardens & compost piles, would take their eggshells and coffee grounds from breakfast out back to throw out there.

I’ve had drip coffee, steeped coffee, espresso machine coffee, french press coffee, boiled in a pot then strained coffee, enough others that I’m not sure what the final count is, but the best coffee by a long shot that I’ve ever had was percolated coffee. Nothing else comes close. It can take absolutely horrible ground coffee, like Starbucks, and brew it into a smooth and pleasant experience. Worst way to make coffee my butt!

A lot of people still use percolators, especially when camping. You can buy them in camping supply stores. To avoid getting grounds in your coffee is to use a filter in the bottom of the basket and to turn down the heat once it starts perking. It's sad that folks don't recognize a stove-top percolator these days. It's really not that different from today's coffeemakers; the principle is the same. By the way, it's not a bad way to make coffee. Before the percolator was invented, you boiled the grounds in the water, pure and simple. If you weren't careful when drinking it you'd get a mouthful of coffee grounds.
