Within most of his work, there is a depth that isn't always recognized; a psychological, philosophical, and mythological depth that undergirds most of his cinematic oeuvre that seems to speak to a more Gnostic worldview. This I feel is what makes his output so unique, timeless, and even pressing. Its that urgency of the Ancient Gnostic message for all of humanity to WAKE UP from the nightmare which is our world, to dispel illusions, and confront reality head on. Wes himself says it perfectly at 11:31.."Are we going to be awake? Or are we going to be asleep? And, the only way to get rid of the bogeyman is to stay awake. Not to fall asleep. Not to dream him away."
