Great to hear this. I so loved playing for his students during their lessons at the Univ. of Illinois. Loved going to post-recital receptions he would have at his house with the great spread of food he made......wonderful potatoe salad, sweet potatoe pie and other great tasting dishes. He was such an encourager and so generous. We affectionately called him Uncle Bill.
You can simply feel his soul as he sings this. He would live only three more years.
as an 80 yr. old man, he still had a beautiful voice! what a great talent.
If you were only lucky enough to have seen his soul, but at least we all get to hear it still.
You have crossed over into the camp ground, Mr. Warfield. May you rest in peace. See you in heaven.

Yep! He did that with us in Los Angeles also.
Many years ago He sang the Elijah with the Brooklyn Oratorio Society. So wonderful to hear him on youtube.
Beautiful!
I think it was 1980, when I heard him sing Elija at Urbana. He didn’t have the voice by then, but it’s still a performance that I’ll never forget.
This arrangement and these lyrics all have influenced me. They continue to move, inform, and inspire me.
