    would you mind telling me how you edit videos? what do you use to add captions and make them wiggle like that?

      !!! i'm so flattered to get this question! especially because just five weeks ago, i was asking the same question to a translator senpai ^-^ get ready for a very long rant lol
      i use the free version of davinci resolve for all my editing and subtitling (version 17.4.5 because my laptop can't run newer versions T-T) i use the text+ tool to make my subtitles, and then effects like write on, camera shake and waviness to animate the subtitles
      my videos tend to be very basic, so it's got everything i need, and there are tons of tutorials online to help you figure it out! it's also very intuitive and beginner-friendly, which is great if you haven't edited videos since you used imovie to put together that one high school french project (read: me)
      there are a couple downsides, though:
      1. if your computer is anything like my probably below-average performance laptop, then davinci resolve is probably going to be a bit of a strain on it. my laptop needs to be charging at all times while i'm editing and it heats up quickly, even while using a cooling mat. the other day, i tried connecting a wireless mouse while resolve was running and it wouldn't stop crashing...
      2. the render times are absolutely excruciating for any video that uses fusion effects, which is all of my videos. the very basic, single-colour text tool with no special effects doesn't take long to render, but since i put borders around my text and make the words shake sometimes, it makes the render time unbelievably long. how long, you ask? this video, which isn't even two minutes long, took about 20 minutes to render, and some of my longer videos, around the 20 minute mark, took over 3 hours to render. though, i have read that the render times are a lot better in the paid version, so if you're willing to spend a couple hundred dollars...
      3. you need to keep an eye on the render cache, and make sure to delete everything after you're done with a project. davinci resolve creates a folder called "cacheclip" and it gets ridiculously large and basically just takes up all of your available storage space -_- you can safely just delete the whole folder though, it'll just get created again when you open resolve again
      4. not super sure about this one, but i don't think resolve can handle special characters too well, so you're gonna have to find a way around that if you want to use special characters in your subtitles. all of the kaomojis and symbols that don't appear on my keyboard in my videos are painstakingly traced and outlined by hand to match the subtitle font and outlines... i'm 99% sure that's not how the japanese subtitlers do it, so if anyone knows what software they use, i'd really like to know ; ;
      tl;dr: i use the free version of davinci resolve; it's good, but not perfect
      if you'd like, please give davinci resolve a try and let me know if you have any other questions! i'd be glad to answer them!
