It's gorgeous!! I think this is what I'll make this Christmas. Quite time consuming but not at all difficult. What I'd do differently though, is wrap the backdrop in either aluminium foil or cellophane wrap before adding the black fondant. I don't really see the point of fussing with pieces of sticky tape... Merry Christmas and looking forward to seeing how you make the other decorations!!
Zoe, watching you cover your board, I was thinking... Why didn't you roll out a round piece of fondant big enough for both sides, place the board upright in the middle and just pull up the sides? Or, place the board flat on the one half and pull over the other half - then trim the edge and place the ribbon...?
Finally got the time to watch this uninterrupted :) I love everything about it. All the details are amazing. I love the bows and the candles and the stocking and the garland. :D My favorite is the fire though in the fireplace. I wish I had been able to see you do it but that is okay. I looked at it for a while and I think I see what you did there. :) Thank you for the great idea because I have been actually wanting to make a fire pendant for a friend that fights wildfires and now I know just how I want it to look - just like yours. :D - Heidi
Hi Zoe, your cake video was stolen by freebooters, has been cut severely and is being shared on bogus facebook site called Food Ideas (among others- there are tons of bogus pages as you may well know). They profit- NOT YOU and it is not fair. I will speak up on your behalf if you like, but hope you will flag them with facebook- this has got to stop! :)
Stunning!! Just love how the fireplace came together. Love all your videos and thank you so much for doing all of them. I learn so much from watching you.
Zoe, I showed my mom this scene, and as I've already made the trees and presents she wants me to try and do this! I will show you photos when it's done :) it's a wonderful tutorial and looks amazing. Xx
Wow! Amazing detail. How long did that take start to finish would you estimate? As a beginner with arthritis I'll have to double or triple whatever your time is. I might try turning it into a set of cookies using royal. (Just for personal use not for sharing.) If I do I'll send you a pic, though Really outstanding!
Hi your fireplace backdrop looks fab. Can I make this now and put it a airtight container? As I want to get it right and the more time I have the better. And also cannot wait to get doing it. Thanks for showing us how to do it.
+Lynn Rimmer Thanks for watching my Christmas tutorials Lynn! You would be better keeping it in a card board box, air tight containers usually make the icing go a bit funny.
+Zoes Fancy Cakes Hi Many thanks for your reply back. That's great I will get a box then. And have a go at making it got lots of time to make it just right. I know it will not look as good as yours but I can try. Thanks again you have such a good talent. May start it next week just waiting for some items to arrive that I will need. Looking forward to doing it. :-)
Practice makes perfect Lynn, I am sure you will be great! Feel free to pop over to my Facebook page and post a picture of your creation on there when you have finished :) Thanks for the support x
+Shannon Mulhall It should last a little while, mine still seems to be okay from last year :) try not to let it get damp though, I think if it's left in the sunlight it might eventually lose some colour x
the wooden things could be dowels or you could use lollipop sticks - that's what I did. I used fondant [sugarpaste] and coloured it myself. I used a ribbon cutter for the white bits as I can't cut straight like Zoe. Hope that helps x
+Ornella Maraj Thank you :) I am not sure if I would be able to make a standing santa to fit on a cupcake as he would be fairly large, I am struggling for time at the moment but I am hoping to get more Christmas videos made x
oh sorry I understand now :) I sometimes just use polystyrene balls in the heads if it's not going to be eaten and to make the figure lighter, you can usually do the exact same thing just with a fondant or modelling paste ball, it will just be heavier :) If it's too heavy you could use something edible like a rice krispie treat instead :)
Hey Vanessa, thank you for watching my cake decorating tutorials, please share what you have made on my Facbeook page here :) - facebook.com/zoesfancycakes
+Pascal Dib Hi, thanks for checking out my tutorials :) Everyone has a different opinion on this but generally you are fine for weeks, even a month, I have heard of people making them much further in advance but I haven't tried it myself x
these cakes are gorgeous..however i am fallowing so many talented people and none of them use gloves..why??this is food and you are playing with it a lot until the product is done..
in my opinion, I think it would've been nicer to use rice Krispy instead of the cake drum for the fireplace... @ least that way, if they want to eat the fireplace too then they could eat the rice Krispy along w/ the fondant too... such a waste of fondant...
I couldn’t help but notice that it appears that you “cut” the tape that you are using to cover the cut edge of the cake drum with your teeth. This is going on a cake. Why would you do something so insanitary? Whether it is on an item that is to be consumed or not, it is still going on a cake. NO THANK YOU.
I made this yesterday following your instructions tions.not came out perfectly and my grandchildren loved it. Thankyou
Hola, que belleza de trabajo!!!!! Me encanta
What a beautiful fireplace cake, Zoe. It's pretty much like the Yule Log on television every Christmas Eve here in America.
Love the fireplace scene

I did the cake for our christmas eve dinner. Took to long but was worth it. I made green and red chessboard for the cake inside looked awesome
+Pascal Dib That sounds great! I would have loved to see the cake! :)
Hi Zoe. just a little tip, if you put a wet tea towl down underneath your board it will stop it from slipping on your work surface :)
This scene is so pretty and every home has this typical scene... that is the beauty of it! Lovely! ❤️ I can’t wait to try it!
So therapeutic watching your videos
This cake came out beautiful ... That fireplace ,, no words !! Love your work , you inspire me . Love it !!!

hi enjoyed all your videos, will make this one for christmas, just a question, are u using home made marzipan or store bought
Oceanic Blues If I use Marzipan i use store bought as I don't have time to make it myself. Thanks for watching
your tutorials are awesome!!!! what brand of fondant do you use?? or do you make it by yourself???
+Carmen* Thank you Carmen! I usually use Renshaws :)
Thanks for the tip! I wil definitely try some fondant fun this christmas!!!
Can someone please make me a quick list of things I will need to buy to make this cake including like the wooden things and all that? Thankyou
the wooden things could be dowels or you could use lollipop sticks - that's what I did. I used fondant [sugarpaste] and coloured it myself. I used a ribbon cutter for the white bits as I can't cut straight like Zoe. Hope that helps x

You are soooo Talented. Thank you very much for Sharing. Can you do a 3D standing Santa with Fondant for Cupcakes Please Please.
+Ornella Maraj Thank you :) I am not sure if I would be able to make a standing santa to fit on a cupcake as he would be fairly large, I am struggling for time at the moment but I am hoping to get more Christmas videos made x
+Zoes Fancy Cakes PLEASE can you make it for a Tier cake but all edible no Styrofoam.
it's exactly the same process using a dummy cake with a real one :) I just don't always have the time to bake a real cake for a video x
That's totally understandable. I was talking about the figurine.
oh sorry I understand now :) I sometimes just use polystyrene balls in the heads if it's not going to be eaten and to make the figure lighter, you can usually do the exact same thing just with a fondant or modelling paste ball, it will just be heavier :) If it's too heavy you could use something edible like a rice krispie treat instead :)

these cakes are gorgeous..however i am fallowing so many talented people and none of them use gloves..why??this is food and you are playing with it a lot until the product is done..
+Irina Ionescu Things I make in my videos are usually made purely for my videos, they don't usually get eaten.
Thanks for watching
Oh..well in that case i can understand :)
oh my god
in my opinion, I think it would've been nicer to use rice Krispy instead of the cake drum for the fireplace...
