Hey! Glad to see a new video from you. I watched all of your videos when I was trying to work up the nerve to go to my first class and I really appreciate your experienced perspective. I’ve been going for the past month and it’s been pretty great! I still get crazy butterflies in my stomach before every class but it gets a little better each time. Looking forward to the stage where I feel less derpy. For the most part there’s always at least one other woman in class, but we had a class last week where almost a full third of the class were women. I’m hoping to see a lot of them stick around. Sometimes I feel a little out of place in a boys club, but all the guys are nice and I know it’s just some growing pains until I can fit in. I kind of struggle to go against my ‘nice girl’ instincts (apologizing too much, asking if I hurt them, etc)

Glad you're making videos again! I actually prefer to roll with men...it's realistic. I like a challenge. Most likely a man will try to attack you. It would be nice to roll with a female once in awhile too, but hey work with what ya got.

If you are the only female in your BJJ class, be sure to go as you may be the reason another female might join! And really, in my experience, more experienced BJJ male practitioners try to help newer members, male or female. Interestingly, it seems (from what I've seen) to be the experienced female practitioners that appear to go harder against newer female members. Not new white belts though. They just seem to go hard all the time. :)

      Yeah
I was an only female in my dojo and guys seemed to be quiet gentle with me, asking if I was alright. And when I practiced with another dojo with many girls, they were really rough, on the first day one broke my bone 💀
      Never underestimate females.

Hi Marjorie, great to see you back.. Followed you for years on here as I just love your passion for Jiu-Jitsu, if I had a dollar for every time you say "Jiu-Jitsu" I would be rich, that just shows how much you love it, I think you would eat & sleep it if you had no kids.. I never knew you had achieved Ur Purple Belt until I saw U Fighting in this video so Congratulations on a fantastic achievement. I know you will make Black Belt one day due to your passion for BJJ.. 🥋🥋😍X

Marjorie, how is it possible that you are the only female in this Hoosier Academy class? BJJ was made for females! Hoosier Academy should go to Winfield city hall and get them to arrange for the academy to hold training seminars at the local schools to get the girls ( and the boys ) interested in this great sport.
I hope my idea is given consideration.

Hey Marj, did you ever hit a wall in your BJJ progress and how did you work to overcome it? -Someone Who Hit their Wall

Aryana Dromey-Rush Hi Aryana! Yes I did hit a wall a few times. The time I remember the most was when I was training 6 days a week and 3 private lessons on top of that. I was exhausted and overtraining and getting nowhere. My coach got so frustrated with me, he told me “that’s it! No more lessons for awhile!” I wasn’t grasping anything new, and actually was losing to lower belts consistently. I hit a wall for sure! I overcame it by temporarily cutting down BJJ training and doing some cross training. Jogging and kickboxing was what I did in between. Hope that helps! Don’t worry, it won’t last long!

@@marjorieonthemat548 wow, that makes me feel less alone when I feel clueless.. I rolled with another white belt (male) and he submitted me so much. I felt like a total loser lol. But, didn't let me deter me from coming again. Just inspired me to train more
