@@pigeonax you have two holders in your violin case for a extra bow for when you do(because eventually you will, I've done it you will do it and so will everyone else) So you can switch bows. High quality bows also dont break easy p much
+KonyZulphrea Good joke. It's common knowledge amongst musicians that the leader of the orchestra is expected to hand over his violin to the soloist in a case like that. As they knew what had to be done it went so quickly.
Regardless of whether they should have been more prepared or not, or whether this is common sense to them, I still think that understanding is impressive. :)
i love it when the string breaks he so confused for a sec as to what happened made me laugh so hard but hes definitely a excellent violinist on another note lol.
It all adds to the excitement of a live performance. Apparently Paganini had a marvelous crowd pleasing turn where, should his e-string break in performance, he would continue the piece by playing in increasingly stratospheric positions on the 'a' string. I enjoyed the violin swap and the immediate, polite understanding taking place before the next appropriate entry.
I know right, the music is incredible, the musicianship even more amazing, and all I can think of is Cousin Itt and wondering if the hair had anything to do with the string breaking. Yes, I know it didn’t.
i feel so embarassed by seeing this. 😂 he broke his e-string bc of how good he plays. while me, i broke my e-string bc i over turned its peg while tuning. 😂
My e string is just self-destructive. I didn't practice for a couple of days but when the time I grab my precious one its e just snaps! And I don't even have a replacement so right now so I have to practice in the hard way by playing on a string!
I think twoset watched this and i have to agree with them that the most painful part of this is hearing the orchestra dying down to just a couple instruments in response. C'mon guys, the show must go on!
@Jdrocco English isn't my first language either, but that doesn't have anything to do with the fact that "could of" simply hurts to read. Also, if you're gonna be petty about periods, at least use commas
Paganini removed the small brass piece on the frog and replaced it by a piece of sharp hardened steel, he practiced breaking the strings with this before he performed. (true story)
jehovahuponyou Man take it easy. Down on the frog is a small piece of some soft metal (mostly silver or brass) that leads the hair. Send me a PM via google.plus and i will send you a picture (i actually am a luthier) .
@@SuperWasweissichdenn I got my violin off of Ebay and the white part that holds the hair at the end of the stick is sort of chipped, does that increase chances of the bow breaking?
I remember taking violin classes in school and the way you are meant to hold the violin always scared me, because I always thought the smallest mistake would make the string hit me in the face. Great performance btw
When I first saw this clip in TwosetViolin long ago, I thought it was an old clip from Joshua Bell! Untill today, when I get your video on my recommendations! Amazing, you really are the next Joshua!!
joshua bell broke his e-string during a performance of red violin caprice in philadelphia 3 years ago...handed his strad off to concertmaster and kept playing without breaking his stride. the concertmaster pulled an e-string out of his jacket pocket and re-strung it...handed it back at next bell's next rest. kept your cool...sign of a great soloist!
Exactly. And when there's no soloist involved, if someone in the section breaks a string, the broken-stringed instrument gets passed back and traded in the same manner until the person in the back gets it and can fix it, then passes it back up.
Well the first violin definitely sounded louder and better. And what was annyoing for him in this situation is very entertaining for hundreds of thousands people years later. A good deal. And well played.
If I remember correctly it works like this (and it's explained well in the "Midori violin string break" incident): The soloist trades his violin with the concert master, who trades it with his/her stand partner, who trades it with the person behind him/her and all the way to the back of the first violin section so that that individual may restring the instrument. Once restrung the instrument gets sent back up during the performance or at the movement break and the soloist resumes on that violin.
you right hand looks a little stiff, and I wonder if that's the reason that makes your saltato a little rough, but you have a really nice left hand! well done! I like your hair BTW!
thanks a lot for the comment.so, the concertmaster didn't trade with her/his assistant? well, once again, congratulations on the great performance and the great awareness of the situation!
so, does he have to continue with the new violin until the rest of the concert or only the rest of the movement? and what does the person have to do with the damaged violin? is she supposed to leave the stage and have the violin fixed or she has to sit there until the end? do you h ave any info about this case?
Was it difficult switching so sudenly from one violin to the other???...b/c it takes time for me to get adjusted to a new violin so I was wondering....
lol. "i broke my violin string... may i borrow your's?" (takes concert master's violin) " thank you sir. i hope i don't break any of this violin's strings" - aye, he's a virtuoso indeed XD

Adam Mc Garrity in Orchestra there's always a person that is said before concert to be ready for such switch in case something happens with the solist's violin. Just saying ;p
The string break only stopped him for a second, grabbed a fresh violin and soldiered on like nothing happened.
Boris Karloff Jr.83 That’s what you are supposed to do if (god forbid) you break a string
You see, this is what u do if u break a string. What happens if you break a bow? You just pizz the rest of the performance

+Wolfy O'Hare I did that once on the d string on a cello. I had actually practiced it 'cause I'm paranoid like that.....
that's pretty cool, but there are notes you can't reach on the A string no matter how good you are
I'm sorry I'm distracted by his hair cut
Alexis Santa Ana more like LACK of haircut

Yeah. Can we just take a moment to recognize that fabulous bowl cut?

IMPRESSIVE!
Perfect timing, no panic, no missed notes whatsoever!
That's the most amazing thing I've ever seen in live performance.
the timing was perfect though, the sound went really well with the song :P

Paganini was just flash, there was no depth to his playing/compositions at all. Wows the crowds of non-musicians, but bores actual musicians.
Great recovery! 😉
this guy plays with a great fiery passion. very mature for his age. sounds great!
That moment when u realize the E string is broken and got another violin. How the heck did they have a spare violin
because e strings do that sometimes
Yeah they just swapped it with the other front stand violinist. It’s the proper thing to do, many soloists do it
They didn't
It was the violin that another person was playing
Other people break string: "oh darn it"
Marek breaking string: "lol good, things are more interesting now. Let's goooo haha" *keeps playing on*
That was real slick! If people hadn't actually watched the string snap and just listened to the music they'd be none the wiser. Bravo!
I remember taking violin classes in school and the way you are meant to hold the violin always scared me, because I always thought the smallest mistake would make the string hit me in the face.
Great performance btw
Glad to see Coconut head finally found his talent
Wow! The breaking sound is on beat!

Hmm, The first violinists violin sounded better in quality.......
But out of tune!
Very professional. Congratulations.
drinking beer and listening to classical music in Plzen has to be the most Czech experience you can have
1:10 Watch from there XD I was hoping to see him break it twice
i find it much funnier how the orchestra ends up sounding when they start to doubt whether they will be continuing to play... hilarious
Didn't miss a single beat. Bravo.
Wow, he has phenomenal expression in his playing.
He looks sooo handsome...
Now THAT is quick thinking. He didn't even miss a beat! Way to go, kid!
It should be Symphonie Espagnole - In case of broken string, you should do like this.

You can tell from the sound of it, that the metal piece on the frog hit the string. I've done that a few times as well
You're face was priceless! But awesome job regardless!
¿Alguien sabrá autor y opus de éste concierto?, por favor.
Now the concertmaster doesn't have an E string! Beautiful playing, though...and a nice recovery!
@ Shira Fox: they didn't, he just borrowed I violin's violin!
You are a Pro.
How much you charge for an hour school class?
what was the violin piece he's playing?
Instructions unclear, my house is on fire
As a violin player, I would be terrified if my string broke like that in the middle of the performance... but you have to admit, that was hilarious =)
1:24 Lol it sounded like half the orchestra just stopped playing
[sounds of orchestra dying]
