Dan Patrick and the Danettes react to former NBA MVP Derrick Rose announcing his retirement and discuss whether or not he will make the Basketball Hall of Fame

T-Mac had 2 scoring titles, 13 points in 33 seconds, global impact (partly due to being Yao's teammate). Rose peak wasn't long enough, he had 2 good seasons and the rest of the time he was an injury prone role player
@MyronZhao winning mvp means u had a great season not just good. Tmac also blew a 3-1 series lead. Rose didn't need another player to help his impact internationally or otherwise 1 mvp and actually winning more than 0 playoffs series>>2 scoring titles Game winning playoff buzzer beater>>>13 pts in 20 seconds to win a reg season game
I loved watching D-Rose in Chicago and New York as a Chicagoan, but I say no. Injuries hurt his case, and, even when healthy, he fell short of reaching 15,000 career points and 5,000 assists -- point guard career benchmarks. Sadly, not enough All-NBA First Team selections -- just one and nothing lower in ranks -- for consistent greatness. Having 3 is a miracle. He was entertaining though.

His NBA career definitely shouldn't warrant a position. He was a bench player for the 2000 olympic team. I don't think that gold medal automatically should warrant a position. Then there's players like Tracy McGrady in the Hall, who don't have olympic medals, and didn't play college ball at all. A big bunch of players in the basketball Hall of Fame weren't worthy of the induction. And D-Rose definitely isn't worthy. The induction policy should be more strict. Best point guard of all time? He wasn't the best point guard in the league, when he won the MVP.
Very very borderline. He has nothing else except his MVP. No scoring titles, no Finals appearances, nothing. Even Bill Walton a guy who won MVP and didn't play much, at least had 2 rings and a FMVP too.
@@andrewmyers3520 That peak lasted for one season. Rose got one all-NBA selection for his career. It's not called The Seasonal Hall of Fame. Rose has no business getting in.

"Stop it! He’s a no brainer HoFer. Yao Ming - never close to MVP caliber - is in HoF." Yao made an all-NBA team five times. Rose made one. He probably will eventually. The Basketball Hall of Fame has always given a lot of credit to peak talent, especially if the short peak is due to injury (though they have come around even in cases where the career decline was due to drugs or other personality/character reasons). So it won't be immediately, but I wouldn't be surprised if it happens 10-20 years down the line.
Giannis won the regular season MVP two seasons before he won the championship. Same thing with Jokic. So, unlike what Dan claimed, they didn't have massive post season success before they won MVP-awards.
Dan is tripping - he is one of the most transcendent players to ever lace them up. If you weren't in awe of Derrick Rose his first 4 years in the league then you don't know hoops. His injuries also occurred while the NBA was transitioning into being a 3 point contest league which further diminished his value and minutes with each passing year.
Grant Hill has a much better case for the hall than Rose. He did still make an all star team in Orlando after all of his major injuries, and at age 35-38 played almost every game of those seasons as a valuable roleplayer on a contender. Rose won't even play a game past age 35. And of course his college accomplishments were infinitely better. Grant has simply had a much better career.
