We'll see some yard work and a pair of locomotives run the wye.
We'll also see the inspection system trains must go through as they leave the facility.
I hope you enjoy and let me know what you think.

The growing coordination and efficiency of freight transportation systems is remarkable.

one thing you probably noticed when filming the video, lots of blue UMAX 53’ containers, and no green EMP containers, why is that? Simple answer UP set up 2 joint ventures container pools about 10 years ago with the 2 east coast railroads, so that empties don’t have to travel back to their original railroad without a load. So the UMAX partnership is with CSX and EMP is with NS. Both partnerships each have about 40,000 containers. Therefore, you will see both EMP & UMAX on UP trains and ramps, but only UMAX on CSX and only EMP on NS.

The truck driver is unhooking the Container Twist Locks on the chassis @2:40 and yes they use Twist Locks on the stacks (they do not lock) but none in the well car. Also it becomes easier to back a 53" in after you do it every day, the 20' are the hardest to back in.

      Thanks for the great info.
      I really do appreciate it
I could see how those 20 footers could be more difficult since they'd want to go all over versus a 48/53 footer maintaining a more manageable angle.

Thanks for great video and great channel. National Archive should have these materials, imagine having such material from 50 or 100 years ago. At the time, everyone is too busy working hard to make recordings, and activities are hidden away behind fences and green belts for commercial privacy, safety and security, and to mitigate impacts to local residents. Priceless work, droneguy.

Csx used to have one in Pittsburgh, and then they turned it into storage for plastic pellets

The reason for the bnsf and up engines is both railroads run an interchange train between Chicago to North baltimore daily

Great job covering how Intermodal Yards work. You See Intermodal Trains every- where you look. World’s Largest Container Ship can transport 24,000 Containers. 🤔

another excellent video, definitely within your top 5 videos very informative as always but still entertaining and it’s great to see what happens once an intermodal train is in the terminal, keep up the excellent work!!

Great video. Intermodal Yard Operations are largely a mystery to me. I'd love to know how traffic flows in and out, how the functions are divided and physically arranged in the yard. If anyone knows of any good video on this, please name them below 👇

Could you perhaps make the #x speed caption smaller and in a corner? it was interfering with some of the crane footage. they're too slow to watch in real time 🤣

I will definitely consider putting the speed indicator in the corner so it doesn't block anything.

Didn't Hunter Harrison want to close this facility at one time, or am I thinking of another one?

    • @KingSNAFU
      @KingSNAFU หลายเดือนก่อน +1

Originally this facility was suppose to the hub of CSX's hub and spoke intermodal operating scheme and at one point handled 30 trains a day. Hunter Harrison decided to reduce operations at the facility when he shifted the company to a PSR mindset. As far as I'm aware there were never plans to shutter the facility but it's operations had been drastically curtailed at one point

There is no thing as a "fake"-bonnet. It has it or hasn't it. The letters don't matter.
The scanners at Rotterdam also scan for heating inside the containers (heat can become a fire) and axels of the cars (like the US default detectors). They can be programmed even to sense life activitiy inside; that can be animals as well as people. And also, like on an airport, for drugs, guns etc. Papers says books: scanner finds little plastic bags... ((I am also talking about the scanners, the trucks pass when coming in or leaving a terminal))
I did not see markings on the ground (34:56 and also nothing until 38:22). How does a truckdriver know where to put a trailer? Didn't he parked too close to the one already there? Portal crane can heardly get to it. Also: on that spot only containers not on trailers. He puts one with a trailer there.
Note that MAERSK and ONE are hardly seen together on the same train. Is in this yard too...

Thanks for the info on the scanners.
I believe there are numbers painted on the ground designating drop spots.
In the radio traffic I think you can hear the crews talking about a driver having trouble in a specific bay/spot.
