    Kabhi kabhi laage,
    Raha ansuna,
    Jo bhi mann mein laage,
    Kaha ankaha. X2
    Kinaare, kinaare,
    Pe reh gayi, naiyya re,
    Savaalo, bhare ho,
    Ye Saare, nazare.
    Roz roz aate ho,
    Aankhien you churate ho,
    Hai mujhe lage jaise,
    Khud ko hi chhupate ho. X2
    Aisa kya bhala,
    Mann mein khal raha. X2
    Jiya jo ye mera,
    Dhoonde lamhe saare,
    Jahaan tu tha mera,
    Wahaan ab dhuaan re.
    Pukaare phire hai,
    Tujhe dill, mera re,
    Savaare Savaare,
    Bheegi ye, ankhiaan re.
    Roz roz aate ho,
    Aankhien yu churate ho,
    Hai mujhe lage jaise,
    Khud ko hi chhupate ho. X2
    Aisa kya bhala,
    Mann mein khal raha. X2
    Saare jahaan re,
    Hue jo, hamaare,
    Mile hain, vahi pe,
    Jahaan dil mila re.

    Here's an English translation because Hindi songs are some of the most beautiful in the world. They depict feelings we all experience with an elegance that deserves to be understood by the entire world.
    For context, here's an excerpt from an interview:
    "Roz Roz talks about the strength two people can find in communication, and the struggle that comes with the lack of it. This song bears a special meaning to each one of us because the entire process of creating it - right from singing the scratch to producing it to recording the final vocals - all of it happened during the lockdown. We were all in different parts of the country and really had to put effort into communicating with each other at all times. In the end, it all came together beautifully."
    VERSE 1
    "Kabhi kabhi laage raha unsuna...
    jo bhi mann mein laage kaha unkaha.
    Kinaare, kinaare pe reh gaye naiyya re...
    savaalo bhare yeh saare nazaare."
    Sometimes I feel like we've left them unheard...the things that we said...and the things we left unsaid.
    They have been left on the wayside, so now even these beautiful views fill my mind with questions, not peace.
    CHORUS
    "Roz roz aate ho...aankhein kyon churaate ho?"
    Hain mujhe laage jaise...khud ko hi chupaate ho.
    Aisa kya bhala...
    Mann mein khal raha?"
    Why do you come to me everyday, but refuse to meet my gaze?
    I feel as if, you try to hide yourself away.
    What is it that...
    troubles your heart so much?
    VERSE 2
    "Jiya jo yeh mera dhoonde lamhe saare...jahaan tu tha mera, vahaan ab dhuaan re
    Pukaare phire hain tujhe dil mera...savaare, savaare bheegi aankhein re"
    My heart looks for all those moments where you mine, but there's only smoke now.
    My heart wanders, calling out for you, carrying tears up to my eyes.
    OUTRO
    "Saare jahaan re hue jo hamaare...
    mile vahi pe jahaan dil mila de"
    Anyone we meet in this world who we call our own,
    we meet when our hearts meet their heart.

      While I've posted a straight-up translation, I think one should try to understand each line in more depth. This is poetry, and I feel the best way to approach it is to get a general understanding of what each word means, then construct the meaning from the component parts. This will give you the chance to ''discover' the meaning yourself.
      Before I begin, I just want to say that the lyrics don't make complete grammatical sense to me, even in Hindi. But giving feelings too much form takes away from their beauty, and so we embrace the fact that poetry/lyrics are often free-flowing like that.
      Here goes:

    • @rishabh.malviya
      @rishabh.malviya 3 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      VERSE 1
      1. "Kabhi Kabhi Laage, Raha Ansuna..."
      "Kabhi kabhi" is a commonly used phrase that means 'sometimes'. "Laage" is a verb that means 'feeling'. "Ansuna" means 'unheard' ("raha unsuna" would be the present continuous conjugation).
      2. "Jo Bhi Mann Mein Laage Kaha Ankaha."
      "Jo bhi" roughly means 'all the things'. If you've been reading the earlier comments, you know that "Mann" refers to the 'emotional mind', "mein" is a preposition that mean 'in', and "Laage" refers to 'feeling'. "Kaha Unkaha" literally translates to 'said-unsaid'; but the phrase warrants a deeper explanation.
      Relationships are complex and difficult. Sometimes we fight with the people we love, and say things we don't mean. Sometimes we don't find the courage to tell them how much they mean to us. Things are said, and things are left unsaid. That's the idea "kaha-unkaha" expresses.
      3. "Kinaare, Kinaare Pe Reh Gaye Naiyya Re..."
      "Kinaare" means 'corners' or 'edges' or 'sidelines' (over here, it more accurately translates to the 'edge of the river'; there's a metaphorical imagery at play here, that'll make more sense if you read on, I promise). "Pe Reh Gaye" means to be 'left behind at'. "Naiyya" means 'boat'. "Re" doesn't really mean anything...I would describe it as a poetic punctuation.

      Linguistic Details: The metaphor of a boat crossing a river is actually found quite often in Hindi songs. The boat usually represents the protagonist, and the (often torrential) river represents the circumstances and struggles the protagonist must fight through. Getting to the other side represents some kind of success. Here, they've taken the metaphor a step further, saying that the boat never began the journey across, but was instead left to languish at the riverside.
      4. "Savaalo Bhare Ho Yeh Saare Nazaare."
      "Savaalo" means '(unanswered) questions'. "Bhare Ho" means 'to be filled with'. "Yeh Saare" means 'all these'. "Nazaare" roughly means 'views'; here it is probably used to draw a contrast between the beauty of the landscapes/cityscapes one sees and the internal emotional turmoil that is being described in the rest of the song.
      ==================================================================================================
      Kabhi kabhi laage raha unsuna...
      jo bhi mann mein laage kaha unkaha.
      Kinaare, kinaare pe reh gaye naiyya re...
      savaalo bhare yeh saare nazaare.
      -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
      Sometimes I feel like we've left them unheard...the things that we said...and the things we left unsaid.
      They have been left on the wayside, so now even these beautiful views fill my mind with questions, not peace.
      ==================================================================================================

    • @rishabh.malviya
      @rishabh.malviya 3 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      CHORUS
      1. "Roz Roz Aate Ho..."
      Roz translates to 'daily'. "Aana" means "to come". "Aate Ho" is a conjugation of "Aana", which in this context, roughly translates to 'you come to me'.
      2. "...Aankhein Kyon Churaate Ho?"
      "Aankhein" means 'eyes'. "Kyon" means 'why'. "Churaana" means 'to steal' (in this context, 'to steal away'). You know that feeling of 'not meeting one's gaze'? That is what this line is talking about.
      3. "Hain Mujhe Lage Jaise..."
      "Mujhe lage jaise" roughly translates to 'I feel as if...'
      Linguistic Details: "Hain" is the existence verb in Hindi. The existence verb in English is 'to be'. Examples of conjugations of 'to be' are 'is' ('it is'), 'am' ('I am'), and 'are ('we are').
      It's not strictly necessary to have "hain" at the beginning of the line, but poetry takes grammatical liberties, and keeping it there makes it possible to get enough syllables to fit into the melody.
      4. "...Khud Ko Hi Chupaate Ho."
      "Chupaana" means 'to hide' (in this context, 'to hide away'). "Khud" translates to 'yourself'. "Ko Hi" is a prepositional phrase connecting the two together, expressing that the "Chupaana" is done to "Khud".
      Linguistic Details: A note about the word "Hi" (pronounced "hee"). We use it to place emphasis on things, with a minor element of sarcasm/bewilderment. There's really no good equivalent in English. Consider an example. The word "mujhe" means 'I' or 'me'. The word "kal" means 'yesterday'. If I were describing to you something that happened to me yesterday, but there is a chance you might think it happened to someone other than me, I would place emphasis on 'me' ('myself', 'the person speaking to you right now!') by saying "mujhe hi...". If you might interpret that the events could have happened quite some time back (as opposed to yesterday), I would place emphasis on 'yesterday' ('yesterday itself', 'the day before today!') by saying 'kal hi...'.
      A more wordy, but maybe more accurate translation of this line might therefore go something like this: 'you don't just hide your feelings...it is as if you are hiding away yourself'.
      5. "Aisa Kya Bhala..."
      "Kya" means 'what'. "Aisa" is a grammatical artifact that is really hard to explain without getting overly technical; since it doesn't really add to the meaning, I'm gonna skip explaining it. "Bhala" is a lot like the word "Hi", which I explained in the fourth line of the chorus. It adds a feeling of bewilderment to the question. The difference between "Kya Hain?" and "Kya Hain Bhala?" is the difference between 'what is it?' and 'what could it possibly be?'.
      6. "...Mann Mein Khal Raha?"
      "Mann" refers to the mind. "Mein" is a preposition that mean 'in'. "Khalna" means to 'feel bad/wrong/off ("Khal Raha" is the present continuous conjugation). The entire thing roughly translates to 'something that feels off in my mind/heart'.
      Linguistic Details: There are a lot of word for describing the mind/heart in Hindi, each subtly different. "Mann" is used most frequently in poetry since poetry often deals with emotions, and "mann" refers to the innocent, fickle, and often easily overwhelmed part of our mind - the 'emotional self'. "Mann mein khal raha" is a actually a commonly used phrase that is used in a variety of situations; over here it likely refers to that sinking feeling you experience when you leave things unsaid or unresolved with someone close.
      ==================================================================================================
      Roz roz aate ho...aankhein kyon churaate ho?
      Hain mujhe laage jaise...khud ko hi chupaate ho.
      Aisa kya bhala...
      Mann mein khal raha?
      -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
      Why do you come to me everyday, but refuse to meet my gaze?
      I feel as if, you try to hide yourself away.
      What is it that...
      troubles your heart so much?
      ==================================================================================================

    • @rishabh.malviya
      @rishabh.malviya 3 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      VERSE 2
      1. "Jiya Jo Yeh Mera...Dhoonde Lamhe Saare..."
      "Jiya" has much the same meaning as "mann". "Mera" means 'mine'. "Jiya Jo Yeh Mera..." roughly translates to 'this `jiya` of mine...'. "Dhoonde" means 'finds'. "Lamhe Saare" means 'all those moments' - usually used in lyrics to talk about moments from one's past that one remembers fondly.
      2. "...Jahaan Tu Tha Mera...Vahaan Ab Dhuaan Re"
      "Jahaan" is used to refer to a place - 'the place where we once were' and 'the place `jahaan` we once were' are equivalent. "Tu" mean 'you'. "Tha Mera" means 'were mine'. "Vahaan" means 'there', and is used with "jahaan" often. "Ab" means 'now'. "Dhuaan" means 'smoke'. "Re" is just poetic punctuation.
      3. "Pukaare Phire Hain...Tujhe Dil Mera Re..."
      "Pukaarna" means 'to call' in the sense of calling out someone's name in search of them (the way one might call out a lost pet's name while searching for the pet). "Phire" means to aimlessly wander. "Pukaare Phire" together is supposed to evoke a feeling of wandering aimlessly calling out the other's name, hoping against hope to get a call in answer. "Tujhe" is an object form of 'you' in Hindi. "Dil" means exactly the same thing as 'heart' in English; it's the beating center of our bodies, which quickens or slows down its pace in response to our rising and falling feelings, most well-acknowledged of which is the feeling of falling in love with someone. "Dile Mera" means 'my heart'.
      4. "...Savaare, Savaare...Bheegi Yeh Aankhein Re"
      To be "Savaar" on a horse or a car means to ride the horse or car as a means of transport. "Savaare" is the form used to describe what the horse/car would be doing (i.e., carrying the passenger). In more abstract poetry, this could be used to depict, for example, 'the hopes and dreams of a young person being "savaar"-ed in their heart". "Bheegi" means to be 'wet'. "Yeh Aankhein" means 'these eyes'. "Bheegi Aankhein" is a phrase often used to describe eyes welling up with tears.
      ==================================================================================================
      Jiya jo yeh mera dhoonde lamhe saare...jahaan tu tha mera, vahaan ab dhuaan re
      Pukaare phire hain tujhe dil mera...savaare, savaare bheegi aankhein re
      -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
      My heart looks for all those moments when you were mine, but there's only smoke now.
      My heart wanders, calling out for you, carrying tears up to my eyes.

      OUTRO
      1. "Saare Jahaan Re..."
      "Saare Jahaan" means 'the whole world'.
      2. "...Hue Jo Humaare,"
      "Hue Jo" roughly translates to '...those which became...'. "Humaare" translates literally to 'ours', but it's important to understand what it means in this context. It alludes to the feeling we get being around people we love and care for, and who love and care for us in turn. We think of these as 'our people' ("humaare").
      3. "Mile Vahi Pe..."
      "Mile" means 'to meet'. "Vahaan" means 'there'; "Vahi" is like "Vahaan + Hi" (I explained how "Hi" works to create emphasis in the chorus part 1 translation) - it would mean 'there, and only there'. "Pe" is the relevant prepositional phrase. Together, "Vahi Pe" would mean something 'over there, and only over there...'.
      4. "Jahaan Dil Mila De"
      "Jahaan" is used to refer to a place. "Dil" is 'heart'. "Mila De" is a conjugation of 'to meet'. Taken together, "Dil Mila De" expresses the idea that the "dil" is the agent causing the meeting - something on the lines of 'wherever the heart leads'.
      ==================================================================================================
      Saare jahaan re hue jo hamaare...
      mile vahi pe jahaan dil mila de
      -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    I am amazed by the song, the yellow diary never disappoints. However, why in this world no one is talking about the music video. The duo is superb, and they are doing an amazingly great job, the contemporary dance form reminds me of equally amazing Choreographer Travis Scott. So kudos to the whole team, singers, dancers, choreographers, and all those who made this music video so realistic and more importantly so much exuberant.
    Loads of love and best wishes to each and every person who so ever is involved in this video. 🥰❤️🥰❤️🥰❤️
    This should go for Emmy Nominations!!
