  • A tale of Robotron 2084 - A game that dared to glitch, a game that embraced its bugs like a badge of honour. It's a testament to a bygone era when games weren't just about pixel counts, but about the spirit of raw, unfiltered fun.

Awesome game! Back then I only got to play a few games of it in a local taxi office. It made a real impression on me, though. it wasn't until I got the PS1 Williams collection that I got to really give it a proper go. Played thousands of games of 2084 since. Plays great, sounds great. Don't think I'll ever tire of this game.

GREAT video! Discovered it in Bournemouth pier arcade but at that young age, I was intimidated, coins were sparse, and I never played it much, whilst being fascinated by that crazy level transition sound. Struggled to get a working version on MAME in later years, eventually finding peace on PS2 on a compilation, I still have that version now. What a game! Extraordinary that the same guys did both Defender and this one. To this day, I buy so many twin-stick shooters, always by indies and there are so many fantastic ones out there when you dig for them. My all-time favourite arcade game.

Once you get into a groove, nothing else like it apart from SmashTV.

An old friend of mine used to refer to the “groove” as “forming”. My understanding was merging and becoming one with the game. I have seen and performed things that would have made you puke. As one of my friends said as I took him into the twilight zone playing one hand each while I moved and he fired, “In the middle, in the middle of danger”. We actually rolled the score 10,000,000 playing this way.
      “Save Mikey”. 😂

Still my favorite video game of all time on any system! With how much I played it over the years, I should probably be better at it, but I did finally get into the 1 million point club about 2 years ago. The best thing about this game is how perfectly balanced it is. It gets so difficult and seems insanely impossible later on, but it's still always possible to clear each level without losing a guy. I never get sick of this game!

So crazy hard, like Defender (maybe like all Williams video arcade games?) I had to wait until this was playable at home before I could get any good at it, because... so so hard! Also still not any good at Defender. I know these are classics and rightly so, but also amazed they were so popular in arcades because of how hard they were.

I know right. But I found the more you stick with it, it just clicks. It’s like your brain adjusts to the same frequency needed to match the difficulty. Try to reach 100,000

Defender is a much more difficult game. I’ve mastered both.

I love Defender, but I found what I consider to be an improved version of it on Steam. It's called Pentasma, and it is definitely slightly easier to play. Ther's also a free version avilable. It adds ground units to be destroyed, while retaining the same 'feel' as the original. Rare that I find a development of a favourite arcade game that i like better (never found anything better than arcade Robotron 2084, for example), but this is an exception.
