Definitely a bit of a mental game after an injury! Taking it easy and having fun is always sound advice, I've been sticking to little ledges and rails since I broke my elbow last year and I'm happy with that.
I agree with you too. I also hear more often: grind on rails or higher ledges .. blablabla. But I prefer to learn more slowly than others, but a little more confidently. I don't intend to grind a handrail anywhere in a few years, the main thing is that you have fun with what you do and learn something new every now and then or you build a certain grind more confidently.
