Thank you for the updates General Stoltenberg. Ukraine deserves to become a NATO member! Russia needs to send the soldiers home. Putin is losing! SlavaUkraine HeroyamSlava!
Certainly Germany has ordered already so many new PzH and Leo2 that Rheinmetall can't keep up ... certainly. To get the Bundeswehr to be able to actually defend Germany and also supply more modern equipment to Ukraine. Zeitenwende and everything, right?
We wish we could feel assured that Ukraine can shift its reliance to sufficient range howitzers, mortars and rockets, rather than traditional infantry tactics. Sometimes wishes can come true, but the concern is insufficient heavy guns, as we have been saying all along. That and horrific, extremely tragic, delays in munitions availability. It is a horrible mess, no matter how we look at it, from the supply side, despite the provident nations patting themselves on the back as if all is well on the Ukraine front. It is not and they need to fully realize that. It could be better if the provident powers draw down deeper against their inventories than they have done and are doing. There is that option. Both as to guns and munitions. For instance Canada has quite a lot of M777 guns in its inventory. Ideally they should all go to Ukraine. There is little risk that Canada would have to use them anywhere else within the time frame that it takes for the USA to replace them. That would be another, nearly 100 pieces of 155mm field guns. Alternatively at least half the inventory, perhaps 50 more guns going to where they are really needed right now. Other nations are similarly cagey and stingy. They have things that they are not using, and might never really use, but they do not want to give them up to Ukraine the way they ought to be giving them up, right now. We have to look at it that every additional field gun saves many Ukraine lives. How many is uncertain, but it is many. What are Ukraine lives worth ? Are field gun inventories worth more than those lives ? No, they are not. The guns should be in Ukraine not in inventory. That goes for every provident nation. The guns should be in Ukraine not in inventory.
