    I do like this type of video, My Veritas was literally 2 steps from my computer chair. So I checked it over as I watched. I bought mine last fall to replace a Cabela's Tournament Series rod that had the same guide issues. Had I seen this video I wouldn't of made the same choice. Nice Job!

      Thank you sir. I may have just gotten into a bad batch. hahaha I have heard other people have the same issue with the Micro guides. If you have the standards you are good to go.

    Hi BassGeek, thanks for the review. I've read the comments below and realised you dont have problems with normal guides. I think it might have to do with the knots. Micro guides need FG knots. Unit knots or anything close to that size will break guides when casting.

    • @BassGeek
      @BassGeek  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      William Liew I don’t use leaders. So the knots never make it threw the guides. I use backing but I don’t cast to the braid backing. Good info though. Thanks.

      Michael Spurlock I like Halo rods. I've been during some of the SixGill rods lately they are a little stiff but great feel and weight very durable and I think they are running a buy one get one free deal right now. Just so you know I'm Not sponsored by any rod company.

    I have numerous Veritas rods, both original and 2.0 models. Only one was a 2.0 micro guide and so far it's held up great for me. However, I don't fish as much as I would like and haven't fished a tournament in 3 years. So it's not like I have put it through the rigors in the past three years like others would have.

    I must be lucky, a few comments said they had the same issue as you. I have the spinning version of this rod (regular sized guides), and the original Veritos and never had an issue with the ceramics or guides. Wonder if they changed manufacturers for that version.

    • @BassGeek
      @BassGeek  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for watching. I haven't used the spinning rods however I have 2 standards and never had an issue with them. It's only the Micro guides that just suck to be honest.

      Look at the Piscifun rods they are super cheap and made very well. I like the lews customs and custom plus rods. The Fitzgerald are great. Be sure to check out the Dobyns also.

    Good review. What rod would you recommend in the $100 range? I have a Ducket and ST Croix bass x and have had good luck with both.

    • @BassGeek
      @BassGeek  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I like the Ducket even though they seem to be getting a bad rap lately. St. Croix's are good rods. I've been test the Sixgill's out. I like them even though they are on the stiff side of things. I just got in one of the Killer Bass Baits rods which has a lifetime warranty. I got it for 109. There are a lot of good options out there at that price range. Even some Bass Pro rods that I've had some good luck with.

  • @par1013
    @par1013 7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    I'm actually quite surprised to hear the micro guides were bad. I actually have two of these rods with micro guides and one with standard and have fished them pretty dang hard the last yr or so. and have yet to have any issues. Perhaps I have gotten lucky with these two and they just happen to be the outliers of the buntch. However, after watching this video I will keep a close eye on them and will let yall know when if ever they do happen to fail.

    • @BassGeek
      @BassGeek  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Preston Rollins The standards are good. I haven't had an issue with them. If you do a search on the micro guides you'll find a lot of problems with the ceramics coming out. Now they may have solved that issue by now.

    • @par1013
      @par1013 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      BassGeek I believe you 100% when you say the ceramics have been coming out because of how crappy they are. I don't deny that. what I'm saying is the ceramics on my rods haven't failed yet.... not saying the won't in the near future. I've just been lucky I suppose and was able to get a good batch. With that being said what are your recommendations for having them replaced when they do fall out which guides do you prefer them being replaced with. I only ask to know for when they do fall out I can have them replaced cuz I really do enjoy these rodes.

    • @BassGeek
      @BassGeek  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Preston Rollins I got ya. Your rods maybe a year newer than mine. I hope Abu heard all the rumblings and solved the issue. Everything. I purchase guides from MudHole. Normally the medium grades are great. You may not have to worry about it however. Like I said sounds like yours might be a touch newer than the ones I had.

    How do you know if its a good guide by looking at it? For when I am checking out rods at the store...

    • @BassGeek
      @BassGeek  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Unfortunately it's a buy it and try it thing. The biggest problem I had was the ceramics coming out or breaking on these rods. Yes they do have some sort of warranty but I needed those rods so I couldn't wait to ship it to them and then wait to get it or another back. It sucked for me.

    Just had this happen on my 1 year old veritas probably because I protect it well initially. 12 hrs after buying using a vendetta in a tournament the this happened. I am wondering if putting nail polish on might be a solution rather than replacing the whole eye?

    • @BassGeek
      @BassGeek  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Man it is very hard to find a good Med in that price range. On Tackle Warehouse The Lew's TP-1 for 100 buck and the Lew's american Hero for under 100 are really great. The BassPro Titanium 8 is 99 bucks and It's one of my favorite jerkbait rods the Bass pro Pro quantifier and look up the Piscifun Rods they really are amazing for under 100.

    I never had guide issues with Abu Garcia blackmax rods or the silvermax rods. It could be the manufacturing location is different which accounts for the quality.

      Brandon Hatch Wish I could say the same. I have 5 in the corner behind my chair right now. All broke within a year and a half. Thanks for the input. I haven’t tried the vengeance yet. I love abu. Just not the veritas series.

    • @brandonhatch327
      @brandonhatch327 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      BassGeek the vengeance series is a pretty cheap rod they’re not bad but they don’t hold a candle to the villain or any high end rod. Maybe it was a micro guide issue. My veritas vengeance are all normal guides. My villain 2.0 rods are both micro no issues yet. Fingers crossed haha. Big Abu fan as well. Love the channel got a lot of good input on your jig episodes thanks🤙

    a rod with a good blank and good parts was the 2 main points of a good fishing rod.but now there is the 3rd point and that is "cosmetics".the $100 was used to cover the blank and the parts but now they must save some from that $100 for the cosmetics or it wont sell.so now the first point to sell a rod is to have a good cosmetics.and after that they choose which one to sacrifice,the blank or the guides/parts cos $100 wont cover all 3 points.
    with the growing number of custom rod builders everywhere,then its wise to sacrifice the guides cos they think you can repair or upgrade them more easily with a wide range of options & price point from oxide to torzite (fuji) for example.
    well,those rods are not made mainly to help anglers,they are made based on how much they will make profit for the companies/brand holder.

When the 2.0 was introduced, the Abu Garcia product manager spoke about their micro guide series. I always thought micro guides was a marketing gimmick. Every year there is something new out there. That's how they make their money. Now, saying that, I have a friend that claims micro guides are better. I don't think he can tell the difference, but he says the manufactures tested them and claim they can cast farther. Of course, that's how they make their money . . oh wait . . I already said that . . uhhh . . .never mind.

      To be honest I don't know. I've been testing a lot of different rods in that price range this year. SixGill is tough but they seem very stiff. Halo makes some good rods with a great warranty around the 100 dollar rang. I've got some rod review videos coming out over the next few months. The Lower end Abu is a nice rod. I actually like it better than the Veritas. I don't remember the name.
