  • Is 2024 MLB Topps Big League Baseball worth your time and money? The 18 pack hobby box retails for about $50, and is the equivalent of the Topps Opening Day series from years past.
Every pack has an insert and a foil parallel, with opportunities for rare parallels, and autographs. Tune in to see what I pull from this box and get my verdict on whether it’s worth your hard earned money!

I agree - there’s barely a dull moment in the pack break, whether it’s an insert, parallel or a big name star. I don’t think you’re likely to pull a super high value card, but you’re gonna have fun opening these cards for sure.

I’ve always enjoyed the Big League sets! Fun cards!

Agreed! I think it’s a low risk product where you’re almost guaranteed to find most of the current stars at least once. At the same time you still have a chance for some really rare and cool stuff too.

What a clever hat-tip to opening day. It's a little disheartening to hear that the perfect entry-point set for today's kids is a $44 box.

For a full hobby box (18-36 packs) of new 2024 cards, yes this is the entry point. But the hobby has moved to “blaster boxes” where they sell 6-8 packs in a box for like $20-30 each, or hanger/fat packs which are just oversized packs. I don’t see a lot of stores selling single packs from a hobby box anymore, unless you’re in a baseball card shop. Yesterday I saw a single 2024 Topps Series 1 pack from a hobby box selling for $5.99 at the card store. This is why I gravitate more to the junk wax era stuff, and dabble in the modern day stuff occasionally.

@@WayBackSportsCards Thank you - explaining simple things any kid would know can be annoying, and I appreciate your patience.

No problem at all! The hobby has changed a lot and I had to re-learn things when I got back involved a few years ago. It’s still a fun hobby but it can be hard to know what you’re looking for. My goal for these videos is to have some fun but also be informative so others know what to expect when they purchase the product.

2023 Big League hobby (18 packs) can be had in that $25-$30 range depending on sales from websites. Topps gets so many things right with the Big League sets then gets too complicated/less fun with the Flagship product. I’ll happily throw money at Big League to set build.

I've been largely out of the country for the past 30 years - can you walk into a convenience store and buy one pack of cards anymore?

Like I said in response to your other comment, single packs are usually found at baseball card shops. Walmart and Target will sell fat packs or blaster boxes. The days of going into a corner store and buying 2 wax packs of Topps with a couple of bucks are sadly long gone.

So I pulled an opening act Elly auto, but instead of being /50…. It’s /15…. Anyone know what’s up with that??

Strange. According to baseballcardpedia, each Opening Act Autograph is available in the following parallels.
Gold Foil (serial-numbered to 50 copies)
Orange Foil (serial-numbered to 25 copies)
      Red Foil (serial-numbered to five)
      FoilFractor (one-of-one)
