A real TRIP indeed. I was lucky enough to be able to sing in the chorus of Seattle Opera in 1972 when Sills performed LUCIA there. This opportunity allowed me to experience her work in the several performances she gave & fortunately she was still in top form vocally & absolutely riveting in her characterization. Since then I have sung in other LUCIA productions as Raimondo but Sills complete mastery of the role is still the gold standard for this opera. Some may have matched her vocally as LUCIA but overall in timbre & dramatic insight she remains, IMO, unequalled, much less, surpassed.
I think it would have been an absolute TRIP to see Bubbles in this role. It’s actually a genius choice in a lot of ways. Natural joy and vivacity being overtaken by servitude and denial. I bet the contrast there would have been cathartic to see and hear.
Good lord, you are right, skip to the fast bits, who ever wrote them. I’ve never heard these before. I only heard her live twice. She was great both times. Oh those days of great singing I witnessed as a young man. Thank you for all your work. ❤️
As a matter of principle, I am not a fan of the (apocryphal) flute cadenza, let alone of attempts to expand it, but this is wonderful in every way and I LOVE it. It is exquisite and an instant favourite.

of all the roles she sang I think this one was the perfect fit in psychological terms... transparent melancholy
@@LohengrinO These little passionate opera conversations bring me such joy throughout the day. You really are doing God’s work here, Lohengrin!
Αυτή την υπέροχη φωνή, ντυμένη με έξοχη τεχνική, την αισθάνεται κανείς μέσα στην καρδιά του!
Ευχαριστώ, φίλε μου.

I love the first part as well but sometimes we need to hurry here...
I would guess that Gagnon wrote them.

Was it her greatest role? I think probably so.

Americans being Americans 🤷🏼♂️😂
There is an Angel recording with Schippers and Bergonzi. I dont know.if this is from that recording.
why are they opening cuts
To faster get to coloratura
@@LohengrinO where and was was this ?? is there a full recording?
not a big fan of Sills' interpolations
Me neither. The vocal line is overpowered by them.
SO GET ON STAGE AND DO A BETTER JOB THAN BEVERLY!
