      The wonderful thing about Theravada Buddhism is that it can be practiced without religious elements. The Buddha's teaching can be summarized as "live morally, practice meditation, and investigate the causes of your suffering." Nothing in that is incompatible with Christianity as far as I understand it.
      If Buddhist meditation makes you uncomfortable or makes you feel that you're betraying your religion, you could even try looking at Christian contemplative practices, such as Centering Prayer. There's a healthy interfaith dialogue going on between Buddhist meditators and Christian contemplatives who are trying to revive Catholic meditative traditions that were destroyed during the purges of the 16th century and the Protestant Reformation. Eastern Orthodoxy never really lost its contemplative tradition, so there's much to draw on there too!

    Also there is a recording of the conversation between Mahasi Sayardaw and a god from upper heavens (Tusita or Nimmanarati)

    With all respect and honour I raise the following question to you for clarifications. (1) If gods appear and talk with the monks, naturally they need to be beings with functional entities. As per our simple knowledge, that can be done only by animals (after the evolution process) that we can see physically. So, how can so happen or is it only a supernatural belief?

      He means divine creatures (not the creator as in Christianity or other religions) with supernatural abilities. Yes, they have those supernatural power but those are different from those of one another and limited. They are not all-knowing. Almost all of them don't know about the four noble truths.

    There is no objective evidence for the existence of Nirvana, rebirth or something other mental states which we find in “Dharma”.
    It is certainly not a science. It is a kind of religion, but not religion in dogmatic, Abrahamic sense.
    Moreover there also could be for example Christians or Muslims who claim that they have experienced some higher states of consciousness, like Marian apparitions for instance.
    So even in Abrahamic religions we could find such “evidencial” justification for their beliefs. The same is about their faith - this faith is not about faith itself, but about revelations, so it also could be interpreted as kind of “evidence”

    I don't understand why do you say 90 billion rules of monks. Monks follow 227 rules but 90 billion? Where do you get this?

    • @saintsword23
      @saintsword23 ปีที่แล้ว

      90 billion sounds like an exaggeration, but technically there are far more than 227 rules for monks, it's just that virtually nothing outside the Patimokkha's 227 is really practiced.
