    Some people hated the 'Aang bad dad' stuff, but I loved it; it showed him as being very human. He had such conflicting pressures, plus ZERO experience with a conventional family. Like how the hell was he going to know how to juggle the responsibilities and fatherhood? What, ask Kyoshi?

      Exactly. I don’t understand how they are upset about it. He was a kid who didn’t get to be a kid and wasn’t actually raised by parents. He had no one to look up to in that regard. Being the avatar doesn’t make you perfect Or all knowing. That mindset bleeds into how they feel about Korra and how “she’s always loosing”. As if the first team Avatar didn’t get their butts kicked most of the time to where even Suki makes a remark during the play

    Personal headcanon:
    Aang gave all his attention to training Tenzin, Katara was training Kiya, leaving Sokka to train Bumi in how to be a non-bending warrior. Really explains their personalities.
    Also, I think the real reason Tenzin broke up with Lin Bei-Fong wasn't because he didn't love her, but because he felt a duty to ensure he'd make more airbenders. Aang married a bender, and only got one out of three. Tenzin marrying a non-bender gave all his kids a much better chance of having the powers.

    Thank you for being so understanding, so many people hate on Korra this season without giving her any leeway to understanding why she's acting out. Girl's almost an adult yet has spent most of her life behind walls, sheltered from the rest of the world to be kept "safe", but she's finding out all these things now that were kept from her, and her dad turns out to not be the person she thought he was (it's something that can be quite a shock to find out your dad made some big mistake in life, a lot of us find our parents infallible and to have that belief challenged by them directly can cause quite a bit of emotion that can work its way into anger)
    Is Korra annoying at times this season? Absolutely. But it makes sense as to why, she's a ball of emotion that she doesn't know how to deal with because she was never taught how to deal with them on top of already being hopped up on teenager hormones.

    • @Ultimaniacx4
      @Ultimaniacx4 5 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      She's a teenager. Still basically a child. EVERY child is sheltered to an extent. She's not special. Those "walls" were the entire Southern water tribe's country. What would she have done if she wasn't the avatar? Travel the world at 12? We see that Roku was already a full grown adult by the time he got to training with Earth. It's not like she was missing anything in her 17 years of life.

    The show doesn't point it out enough, but the decision to isolate Korra from the world to raise her ended up putting her on a path of hard learned lessons. Her every instinct is wrong and if she can't power her way out of a situation she's completely overwhelmed. Her temper makes her prone to not asking for help until she's breaking down.

    • @Cattaract
      @Cattaract 5 วันที่ผ่านมา +11

      Agreed. I think giving the audience some flashbacks of her life in isolation would have been insightful and painted an entirely different picture of her character. It would be more relatable. Personally, I didn't mind her making mistakes, but many people really couldn't seem to handle it without clear justification. A glimpse into her past would have helped.

    • @Ultimaniacx4

      She's a child of 17. Roku wasn't even told he was the Avatar until he was 16, and he was a full grown adult by the time he started training with Earth. How is her "isolation" any different from any other child? What was she gonna do if she wasn't the avatar? Travel the world at 12?

      @ If you think about it, her excelling at everything from a young age was probably reason enough. Like I said before, Roku was 16 when he was told he was the Avatar and it made sense to start travelling at that later age. Since Korra was already throwing fire and rocks around as a child, they had to fast track her training, but it wouldn't be good to drag a 4 year old around the world like that.

In ATLA the North recognizes they havent had contact with the South for the duration of the war so southerners kind of rule themselves autonomously in practice but are also recognizing the rulership of the northern chief in paper. Greenland is part of Denmark but is autonomously governed. If the US attacks Greenland that would be an invasion but if Denmark were to revoke Greenland's parliament and fully incorporate them it would be a bit of a grey area as Greenland is legally part of the Kingdom of Denmark.

  • @a.r.5100

    0:35 That's for 4 reasons. 1. She was fooled by her uncle for so long. But people fail to realize that the ominous music and villain camera shots are just for us, and all korra sees is her uncle who helped her defeat dark spirits, is their chief and wants to make sure no more spirits attacked. 2. How she treated tenzin and her dad. Which I would like to see the people who have a problem with that handle their father and teacher keep them secluded for 14 years, lie why they did that and refuse to allow you to make your own desicion without giving you substantial reasons why. 3. How she treated mako, which honestly warranted criticism because dude was not a problem and she made him one. 4. Because people thought she should stay "neutral" in this conflict even though an avatar is suppose to choose balance, and when the north is trying to assimilate the south even though they have been separate for generations, that is a disruption of balance. Legend of korra gets ALOT of unwarranted criticism and it's because of people biasism towards ATLA

      What seclusion? The story, and mostly Korra, keep saying this but we've seen that she was able to travel outside the walls of the immediate tribe. Her seclusion is to her country. How is that different from any other child? What decision is she being kept from? Was she gonna travel the world at 12? What teenager is owed an explanation for not being allowed to leave the country on their own? Even Roku was only told he was the Avatar at 16. And he didn't even start Earth bending training until he was an adult. Korra missed out on nothing.

      @Ultimaniacx4 dude unolock even said "do you ever wonder why you never visited us in the north?" She wasn't even allowed to visit her extended family. Also I go back to episode 1, she didn't have her whole country to explore, she was confined to a compound and if not for her stubbornness would have been confined to a small island. Plus for 17 years you think a person doesn't have the right to know why they are being confined or why they can not go to see their extended family. You are ridiculous
      Edit: Also the desicion I was referring to her that they tried to keep her from making was who to train with, and what to focus on 1st.

      @ "Did this 17 year old ever travel across the entire planet when high speed travel doesn't exist?" That's a pretty weird question to begin with. Roku didn't even start Earth bending training until he was a full grown adult so it wouldn't have made sense for Korra to have travelled the world under 17. Unalaq talking about past Avatars traveling is just more manipulation but the funny part is the audience were the ones who fell for it the hardest.

      He said this to manipulate her into rebelling against her 'isolation."
      Roku wasn't "forced" to stay home. What child leaves home at that age anyway? That's the point. Korra being 'confined' to one place in her childhood is no different than any other child growing up in one home.

I think that season two is quite over-hated. I'd say that it's the worst season of The Legend of Korra, but still good overall. It's not like season two is bad and all the rest are good. It's more like season two is good and the rest (especially three and four, to me) are phenomenal. Especially because your enjoyment of the character relationships and worldbuilding grows as you get further into the show and its second half. y'know, this season isn't as bad as I remember, I think my sour feelings have mostly to do with how it feels like Korra's growth in season 1 just went out the window and I was annoyed by how mean she was being to the people closest to her. That and the continued relationship drama stuff.
    Other than that, I like it, I even like Aang being a flawed father, he may have been the Avatar, but he was human. He had ONE airbending child, which means that when he died, Tenzin inherited being the last airbender. Aang was worried that the culture he experienced when it was at it's height, would have died with him if he didn't pass it on to the only person he could.

    38:12 If we're going to be looking at upbringing and making excuses for people. Remember that Mako grew up on the streets, eating out of dumpsters. Then he lived in a gym and barely made enough to get by. Now he has a really good job but he's the asshole because he's trying to do it right?

  • @kmjkmjkmj
    @kmjkmjkmj 5 วันที่ผ่านมา +2

    Aang clearly taught Tenzin everything he knew to be an airbender on those trips. Kya is a waterbender so she stayed home to learn from Katara. It wouldn't be fair to bring the two boys and leave the girl behind, so Aang left Bumi behind. He needed a trade as a non-bender so it's very likely Sokka took him under his wing. I doubt Katara would have allowed him to neglect his kids, so it's likely it was her decision to divide the kids. And honestly, imagine trying to control a young Bumi on a flying bison?

    The thing about season 2 is, it’s not as good as the first and not as good as what came after. It doesn’t mean that it isn’t good though. It even has 2 of my favorite episodes of Avatar anything.
    Also, as far as the “Aang is a bad dad”, it’s not that he’s a bad dad, but he was a dad who had a lot on this shoulders including trying to pass down the entirety of his people into his only airbender child. He may not have passed airbending to Bumi and Kaia, but he did pass down his adventurous and free spirit to them as well as his sense of humor.
    Tenzen is an airbender, but he actually takes more after Kitara in personality with his warm parental nature, responsible character, and stubbornness.

      Nobody thinks she should be perfect. That doesn't mean our protagonist shouldn't be likable. Aang wasn't perfect. He was a dishonest, hypocritical child who didn't practice what he preached and completely lacked empathy for anything other than animals. But his good points outweighed his bad points. Korra's bad points outweigh her very few good points.

    To be fair, Korra is essentially asking Mako to commit treason (aiding her in commandeering the United Forces against presidential orders), in addition to asking him to risk his job and reputation as a good cop.

    • @oq1106
      @oq1106 5 วันที่ผ่านมา +5

      eh... if the North-South conflict were actually morally ambiguous maybe I'd see your point. But it isn't. Even if it looks more complicated to the President, Mako specifically /knows/ Unalaq is invading to give himself more power. The South actually has a right to be protected by the United Forces (to which the South contributes manpower too) and the President stalling this because he doesn't see the need is a major miscarriage of his duty.
      Mako knows he's fucking the South by giving up this plan. And he knows the South is in the right. Not being willing to risk your job as a street-cop for that, is pretty pathetic imo.

    • @andrewguenther988

      @ Presumably he'd also be jailed indefinitely for treason.

    • @oq1106
      @oq1106 5 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@andrewguenther988 no, you typically don't get jailed for life when your president does an unlawful act and you're the boyfriend of the avatar and your "crime" is not disclosing a conspiracy you heard second hand from your dimwitted brother.
      Also, would still be morally the correct thing seeing how unalaq is a dictator who is jailing a lot of innocent people for life.

    • @oq1106
      @oq1106 5 วันที่ผ่านมา +4

      @@andrewguenther988 the more I think about it the less it makes sense Mako volunteered this information. The only one who knew /he/ knew was Bolin. Nobody besides him could have credibly accused Mako of knowing and withholding this information. So the chance of him going to jail was nil.
      He sold out the South, which was denied aid they were entitled to, because he wouldn't lie about information nobody knew he had.

    • @andrewguenther988
      @andrewguenther988 5 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @ 1) I don't think the South is "entitled" to any aid, technically speaking. And 2) I think the President would have assumed Mako lied to him (which he did) if Mako said nothing was going on and then the next day the United Forces went off course and got into a firefight with the North.

    My critique for season 2 was not towards Korra's behaviors but more on the plot and its pace. Like how Unalaq was clearly suspicious and is named annoyingly similar to Tarrlok and Noatak who are also villain waterbenders. The whole civil war thing just felt so forced and now we're in Republic city and then there's this unnecessary romance teen drama that just makes it more frustrating to watch. Just felt like the plot was undercooked just to set up the bigger plot which is Season 3.

    • @oq1106
      @oq1106 5 วันที่ผ่านมา

      I can get on board with the pacing complains and the plot feeling a bit undercooked. Particularly also the finale. Where they want their pieces to end up I enjoy, the road they take there I'm not loving.
      I also think the character of Korra would have benefited from the plot actually engaging with why she feels the way she does. Her complicated feelings are pretty legit if you take into account how she was isolated and how that impacted both her social and relationship skills and that she must legitimately feel betrayed finding out she was artificially kept secluded by people raising her in a compound for reasons withheld from her. We're told these things but we don't spent time on Korras emotional PoV, rather we're getting the outside view where she comes of bratty, ungrateful and difficult. The adults in Korras life have been sheltering her way too much, way too long and it's worse because as the Avatar dealing with complicated topics and people is her job, they did not bother to prepare her for in that martial arts training fort. But the audience isn't really helped to realize that the adults failed her. You need to really think about the context and even have information yet to be revealed to piece it together. Genuinely think they made it too subtle.
      The teen romance thing I'm torn on. Because on one hand it's cringe and annyoing. On the other hand, it's also unfortunately bs you see in this age group. I hated some of the people around me pulling this back and forth in highschool but thats also what was happening.
