  • New versions of the Japanese mini lamps I made a while ago. Frame and dimensions are almost the same, but I have added a USB LED lighting circuit so they can be lit from any laptop, phone charger etc and placed on a desk or any suitable space.     Viewers should take time to appreciate how much skill, experience, and preparation it takes to be able to repeatedly cut wood with such precision that the pieces click together as if they were injection molded plastic or cut by a CNC.

      Yes, I had the same thoughts. This is why the plastic stuff is cheap and why real handmade objects with natural materials are better in every way.

      I agree...I have not the patience or skill to work wood to metal tolerances...it also says he uses high quality materials and tools. Working metal like that is not that hard, working wood like that will always be impressive to me.
      Incredibly beautiful.
      Then he builds his own PCB and electronics...a true craftsman.

    These lamps are beyond incredible. I can't imagine having the patience and precision to make these things. I would go insane trying to make one of these, let alone multiple.

    I like the electronic design alot. It's so easily replacable if it ever breaks and also properly recycling it is a matter of seconds!

    I love the accompanying music playing with this video, very well matched. I also love how relaxing it was watching this video. I almost feel like I want to make building these lamps my new hobbie but I know it must take decades of patience and skill development that I certainly don't have. You are a master of zen and of wood craft.

    you always look so calm when you are building - I expect that most of us are in the "frantic" mode most of the time!!
    actually, I really like your "puzzle" style corners instead of actual through-mortising - it looks like the right choice for these small lamps

    I attempted to make a couple of this style lamp for my sister last xmas, the pieces are still on my workbench awaiting another attempt. I learned a great deal as to how your precision cuts are made. Thank you

      Cuts are important, but also the pieces they need to be perfectly squared and straight before so you can register them to eventual jigs or make markings etc then perform the cuts

    The projects are cool and all, but the camera work is fantastic.
    I dig the music choices, too. I can only take so much dubstep while watching people build stuff.
