Summary of the video with a focus on actionable advice & gathered insights
    Macbook Usage
    1. Use your MacBook on a hard, flat surface to prevent overheating and damage to the device.
    2. Do not sleep with your MacBook to prevent crushing it.
    Temperature
    1. Avoid exposing your MacBook to direct sunlight or high temperatures to prevent overheating and damage to the device.
    2. Keep your MacBook in proper conditions, with a recommended temperature range of 10 to 35 degrees Celsius, to maintain its performance and prevent battery damage.
    Macbook Maintenance
    1. Use your MacBook on a surface that does not collect dust to prevent overheating.
    2. Regularly clean the dust from your MacBook to prevent overheating.
    Performance
    1. Overheating can cause damage to the components of the device, such as the CPU, and decrease in performance.
    2. The CPU will lower its maximum frequency when the MacBook is placed on a soft surface and overheats in order to maintain an adequate temperature range. This process is called throttling.

It's true that we shouldn't charge any Apple device with cheap chargers. It only affects the machine. Had a battery bulge for my iPhone 7 long back and the reason was this. And from then on I started using either Apple's or Apple certified chargers. Great video. Very helpful! Thank you!

    • @quickdry3
      @quickdry3 ปีที่แล้ว +7

the phone doesn't just blindly allow whatever your charger spits out into your phone, it goes through a BMS that regulates the charge rate so it is suitable fior the battery, boosts or limits charge rate based on cell temperature, voltage, etc. Sometimes you just get a really bad cell and it'll prematurely swell or die. Poorly made chargers might die sooner, or have unsafe failure modes eg failing in a way that dumped AC or excessive voltages onto the circuit that goes to the iPhone, but in general, so long as they supply roughly 5V the rest is up to the BMS.

    • @paggi93

I bought spare chargers so there’s always one on my desk, one by my bed and one in the living room to save carrying cables everywhere. If 98% of people will be satisfied with an apple charger, 80-90% will still be absolutely fine with budget versions but there’s definitely a higher chance of issue.

If battery charging is paused, or on hold on your Mac. Found out why my M1 MacBook Air that I leave plugged into power shows that charging is paused at 80% with iStat Menus. This needs to be an option that is on by default in all devices like iPhone, iPad, MacBook's.
With macOS Big Sur or later, your Mac learns from your charging habits to improve the lifespan of your battery. In macOS Big Sur or later, Optimized Battery Charging is designed to improve the lifespan of your battery and reduce the time your Mac spends fully charged. When the feature is enabled, your Mac will delay charging past 80% in certain situations. Your Mac learns you're charging routine and aims to ensure that your Mac is fully charged when unplugged.
On Mac computers with the Apple silicon or the T2 security chip, Optimized Battery Charging is on by default when you set up your Mac, or after updating to macOS Big Sur or later.

Filling your SSD is actually ok. It should have some headroom intentionally left from the manufacturer for it to work properly. However, as a general rule you should always have 10-15Gb free on your hard drive to give the OS some "breathing room".
The USB hub thing isn't true either, and neither are the cables. Unless you're going for the extremely cheap Aliexpress or Wish knock-off you should be okay, your phone and your computer are equipped to deal with small voltage variations and even peaks of electric power.

It’s not supposed to have that piece of paper except for when it is brand new and factory sealed, before any wear and tear or flexing has occurred.
Once you start to use it you are trying to insert factory packaging into a machine that is slowly adjusting its shape and its fit, and it’s not designed for you to do that at all.
So it might work out, until one day you go to open it and the glass shatters and falls out. It’s not worth the risk with the cost they sell it for.

Just a little thinking about the battery (and the way i did great since i got the 2021 16"):
What about using AlDente if the battery is literally "too big" for you? Im using mainly 50-70% charge limit.
Often im charging up to 80% and then use the Mac on AC/mobile mixed with a lower limit set (and let it drain to for example 30-40% over multiple days)
Only about 2 times a month or when i really need/want a full charge im doing so for proper balancing of the cells here and then.
Im already at 140 charging cycles with 100% battery health left (according to Mac OS, coconot battery say 99,5%). Seems like this works out especially with the incredible huge 16" models battery.
What annoys me the most... with HDR used outside especially in warm enviroment... the bottom part of the screen gets HOT AF. i literally need to spin up the fans manuelly to cool the display unit when working outdoors while enjoying the bright screen. I completely understand why Apple didnt allow HDR brightness for desktop usage until MiniLED gets more efficient/less heating and it makes the app "Vivid" for unlocking HDR everywhere a bit useless for me since i still often stick to normal max brightness bcause of the heating panels issue. As fancy the XDR studio displays back looks, it has good reasons to exist for proper cooling

Like this i would regret the M1 Pro purchase a bit, but aslong 16GB Ram is enough im fine.

A hub powering a mouse won’t do anything (or more like it’s nothing for the computer). Plugging in an external drive draws significantly more power than a mouse. What’s more is the Thunderbolt 4/USB 4 ports have bandwidth of under 40Gb/s. Those drives that support that kind of speed draw significant power. It perfectly fine to use a quality hub.

Laptop common sense etiquette - The tutorial
You’ll be surprised how many people LACK common sense. Even as a kid I understood to be delicate with the display. But I lost laptops from broken power sockets that were soldered to the motherboard back then. I’d always be sitting on the couch with the cable extended across the floor and people would trip ripping the cable out. One day it was the socket that got ripped loose. Not an issue today as most are NOT soldered to the board anyways, but still. RIP.

The smoking tip is spot on. Yes, I’m a smoker, but not tobacco ;)
Definitely there was a “film” of residue much like cigarette tar over my fans and other components. Easy to clean using ISO and some down time, many Q tips…
My uncle’s air conditioner was broken one day, and the technician knew exactly why - filter and condenser was caked in tar.
I think a solution for this would be an air filter / purifier. Not too expensive, pretty quiet and really helps get rid of stinky air in a room. Although, as a smoker, filters would need to be replaced every 6 months at least, I imagine.

True, do not use other/3rd party charging adaptor or cables to charge your IPAD, Macbook or Iphones.
Only use original Apple Charging adaptor and cable.
Ive use 3rd party charging adaptor (U-Green), charging is very fast, slightly produce heat on my phone if only i use it when i charge with it.
But my battery health drops to 89% just in 10months (without over-night charging or overcharge it).
at the other hand, my brother are using the original Apple charging adaptor and cables, his iphone batteries health is still maintain at 96% in 10months (we bought the iphone 13pro same day).
For my advise, don't use any 3rd party charging adaptor and cables if you really really want your battery to live longer.
Of course there are many other way to kill your battery, but this is one of it, using 3rd party charger.
