In Europe, it is a norm most cyclists don't wear helmet since the culture over there have more tolerance for bicycles and the infrastructure are build with cyclists in mind.(ex: dedicated bike lanes, marked crossing) In addition, the penalty for hitting a cyclists is stiffer unlike in the U.S.

i had the radlicht lights. yea they looked as awesome as in the video. BUT they are brittle as hell. considering i hardly touched the wheels i had a tube shatter for no reason. The battery compartment broke up and flew away as well because the zip ties they used for the job are way too thin for security. I did fix that part by just buying twice as thick zipties but they didnt fit through the original holes so i had to just wrap them around whole battery holder and hub. Also was shame that they didnt have some type of rechargeable feature. No i would not buy these a second time just because i dont like the way they attach to spokes and thus can break.
Monkey lights went out of business unfortunately, I was so pumped to get some!

Just get a headlamp from harbor fright and glow in the dark tape or reflective tape.
E vazkee From the late 80s to 94, had Radio shack security strobe X2 powered by 12V for the rear and two flat flashlights for the front. Hated they stop using that style flashlights for something else. Had the front basket to carry my stuff while riding to my work 11 miles away.

Most of the kickstarter companies would not exist with out the expertise, labor and infrastructure from China.
I believe monkey lights is the one with the cool patterns but you couldn’t choose the theme. It just changed randomly. Hopefully the newest models allow more choices
Regarding the Blaze Burner: having a rear light "as bright as possible" isn't the brightest (haha) idea IMO. When you ride at night behind a friend who has a very bright rear light, it can be really blinding to the point of being almost dangerous (you can't see anything else).

10:43 !!! Wow I saw these lights in another video month ago and have been searching ever since for them. BEST LIGHTS. It covers most of the wheel in light, even when not in motion (other lights require motion to make it appear the light is spread across the entire wheel). That's what I want is my entire wheel to be lit up, not just a couple of spokes.
Yeah everything else is overly complex and not necessary.

This video is too old and should taken down. None of these products are considered emerging technologies at this point. Revolights (the first company mentioned in the video) went out of business in 2019.

Rode touring bike and mountain bike with nerdy looking strobes and two flat panel flashlights in the late 80s to 94. Had to since my work was 11 miles from where I lived in Las Vegas at 11pm.
People! People! Don't buy this crap. You'll waste over $500. You only need a minimum of $50-60 to be seen at night while riding a bike.

Dunno if it's true but i read that those supposdly edgy Revolights lights won't work on my 100% edgy blade wheels.
Seems odd for such a modern edgy invention that they're stuck working on 17th century spoke wheels only.
No on the monkey lights. Puts a big lump of weight on one side of the wheel, you'll feel it wobbling and yanking on your spokes, causing damage.

Calvin Pessl I would never buy from there. People want everything for pennies. There's manufacture. Shipping factory and office overheads to cover. Cheap has a bad rep for easily broken. Also how would you like it if a car driver cane along flashing their high beams at you.
Martin Cooper tbh that light worked for me for more than a year without any issues. Sure, the plastic is probablg as cheap as it can get, but the laser made drivers keep more distance when overtaking me in the city.

Calvin Pessl I'm still not sold on the site. And have you seen a car driving with headlights flashing constantly. "Concentrate on the road. No phones no nothing behind the wheel to distract and cause an accident" don't you think flashing lights are a distraction. Cyclists use the roads too but it's always the spandex road bike riders that always go around looking to pick fights with drivers.
Martin Cooper i completely trust this site. I ordered stuff which totals to about 200€. Everything was just fine and fuctioned like it should. I NEVER use "flash mode" since i know how badly flashing red light disturbs me when driving.
Im actually one of these lycra wearing ones, but never pick fight just to not make an even worse impression of cyclists

The Revolights are the only ones that look decent, I mean, in actual reality having seen them on the street, but they cost a whoopload, all the rest you can get similar for a buck or 2 on ebay.

Why I added a NOS to my bike
EVO light - Too fragile. A gadget.
LUMMA lights - Too cumbersome to charge. Vendor lock in on the handlebars. A gadget. p.s. Motor bikes have one light only too.
Monkey lights - still need a front light. A gadget, and no need for, when using reflective tyres
Blaze Burner - seems like a practical, functional, and usable backlight. Good job.
Radlicht - no practical info. Seems like gadget too.
