    I´m a volunteer in Costa Rica. I finish up in 4 months. Its been a great experience - life changing, but its very hard at times too. If you want, you can join again, too. I have a friend who is now in Africa to serve again.

    I served in the Peace Corps. Good charity or volunteer work like unicef. I went Vegetarian 10 years ago when serving, my fellow workers informed me that our meat addictions contribute to World Hunger (animals are well fed, people are not. Takes 10lbs of grain or corn for 1lb of flesh), is bad for our environment, health and of course animals. Factory Farms are unsanitary and cruel (look up some videos), each veg saves 1000s of mammals lives. So the best way to help, is simply go vegan outreach!

      It depends on the job. Some jobs you don’t.
      Either have a college degree or have years of experience

    @ChaariiDE First off I;m sorry for being 3 months late on the converssation,I'm 27 in my first year in college and going for a BA in Human Services and I want to join the Peace Corps to make a career of it, I could care less about money, If you can live and do things in other countries and better the world at the same time to me that is being rich, that being said I'm afraid after college the PC is going to turn me down because I have a class D felony for DUI like 5 years ago, can you help?

  • @portersearcy
    @portersearcy 16 ปีที่แล้ว

    Please don´t change your mind! What is hard is that you are away from everything familiar for two years. The diffence in culture sometimes wears on you because of the inability for locals to empathize things you are going through. You also are speaking a different language which can be frustrating because many times you cant express yourself in the wording you´d like to, but I have 1000 more good things to say about Peace Corps than bad things. Please send me a message if you need anything else.

    Peace Corps has great training for that. They know the safety issues in each country and prepare you for that during your first 3 months. Its something that has happened here, but most of the time it was because the girl let her guard down, went to a bar and drank with people she semi-knows from her site, and they took advantage. I wouldnt be concerned too much, as long as you dont put yourself in a position where its a possibility. There are almost no cases of flat-out random rapes.

    My advice to anyone who is returning from The Peace Corps is go back to school or join the military. Civilian jobs aren't easy to come by at this time. Try to go Green to Gold and become an Officer. (I was in the Peace Corps in 1990 - 1992; then joined the military after working in Law Enforcement because it wasn't taking me anywhere).
    Check out all the armed services and see what each armed service has to offer? See what job fits to your liking. Take into the account the sign-on bonuses college repayment program, what MOS’s are out there and if it ties into you major before joining the Peace Corps. Keep in mind become an Officer through Green to Gold. You will have a 30% pay increase once you get your commission.

    @furbaby2006 Well, the Peace Corps is one of the most important on-the-ground diplomatic efforts that the United States engages in. It invest sa lot of time and money into its volunteers, and puts them in situations where they can either do a lot of good in the world, or a lot of damage.
    This isn't the right place for someone who is untested. Showing initiative and developing leadership skills while young is very important in proving that you're capable of handling new and hard situations.

    @delikedi17 Yes you have to be married, they can't have you take a boy/girlfriend and have a fight mid-service, now can they? :p I think it's more of a legal thing. Also, friends that want to serve together can apply together but it's not guaranteed at all they'll get the same assignment.

      Nice video content! Apologies for chiming in, I am interested in your thoughts. Have you heard the talk about - Dinanlinson Face Blossoming Approach (probably on Google)? It is a good one off product for revealing the secret to master interviews and get the job without the hard work. Ive heard some super things about it and my best friend Jordan finally got astronomical results with it.

    i'm not kidding at all. also, i don't pay attention to politics at all or even care who the president is. i try not to waste my time listening to something that is probably already feeding lies in the first place. i just wanna be able to join another organization, go across the world, meet new people, and just do something with my self. also, i still don't know what i wanna do with my life. so i figure hey, i'll join the peace corps for now

    I really wonder why all these american kids join the peace corps and leave america to help people in other countries.
    Here in this country we have so many people in need. Homeless shelters,children with cancer, battered woman shelter. Peace corp how about america corp. If you really want to help, help these poor people right here in your own back yard.
