    So cilantro and cilantrillo, I'm not sure if they're different things, but in PR they also have recaíto -- sometimes called recao -- which has a long leaf and is also used to make sofrito. AND they have something called "cilantro brujo", which is very aromatic and even tastier.
    I wonder if you guys will ever venture into cooking Puerto Rican food traditions / making sofrito, making mofongo and arroz con gandules, making tembleque and coquito for the holidays, etc.

    I liked you locking your puerta y rejas y el oyo (pothole). Verduras are guineos verdes pana platanos verde and other things that grow above ground biandas are ñame yautia yuca and malanga things that grow below the ground. You can buy tahini (sesame seed butter) in Walmart by the sriracha and wasabi. Humus is easy to make olive oil garbanzos tahini lemon ajo and a blender. You might want to try shopping at freshmart in caguas it's a bit mas expensive but for the hard to find vegan food you'll have more luck. I was vegan in Puerto Rico for 10 years difficulties finding suitable ingredients caused me to start eating eat eggs and dairy. The availability of vegan and organic food has improved dramatically since then. As far as you finding tortillas (not like an omelet) that will satisfy a Mexican you're going to have about as much luck as what my friend Hong has finding good kemshi. I wish you luck and still invite you to come to have coffee and a quesito with my in naguabo

    I have to admit I was a little blown away by the cost of your groceries. We spend about $80 a week and get about the same amount.
    We are not vegan, so we have to buy ouevos at every grocery trip. (My Spanish is very bad :( we went to Puerto Rico in September and I struggled with ordering at some places. I'll be better by the time we go in 2020.)

    • @SpanishandGo
      @SpanishandGo  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      We usually spend about $100/week, but since we just moved back we had to stock back up on certain things that last much longer than a week.
      For example, the unsalted mixed nuts we buy are $15 a tub, and the frozen fruit costs $10/package. Also the almond butter is about $10. Most of these things last us 3-4 weeks.
      But yes, some things we buy are just more expensive, like organic apples vs conventional.
      I hope that helps! Thanks for watching. -Jim

    I discovered recently PR has at least 60 kinds of taxes... yea..
    y en una clase de historia de pr universitario el profe nos dijo que Puerto Rico era el único sitio donde el mango se le dice mangó, pq mango para nosotros es el mango de una silla y no la fruta. No se si sea cierto q seamos el único sitio pero es un dato curioso.
    Y el sandía, en PR se acostumbra decir melón de agua para watermelon y melón dulce para lo otro (no sé alguien aquí me puede corregir). Yo no sabía lo que era sandía hasta que me mude a los EU. Y una vez en una bodega en NY yo dije habichuelas en vez de frijoles y escuché unos mexicanos decir :”ella dijo habichuelas” 😂

    Verduras and or viandas same as vegetables but usually verduras as I recall at my grandparents home in San Jose, Rio Piedras they we're yautias, yuca,zanahorias,papas,ñame,malanga pretty much whatever was a root to us that was verduras but then later in life I learned about the verduras verdes like broccoli,radishes,cucumbers,coliflour,cilantro,tomatoes etc etc.
    which all this dividing categories makes it very confusing; I just looked it up on the internet and it's quite crazy see for your self it's not the samething from what I knew growing up to today's crazy categories of veggies, verduras and or viandas and I'm 58
