I’m only 16 but I was in a riding school from 3 to the start of this year I rode all sorts of push button ponies as a younger girl to spending a year learning about breaking and backing 4yr olds all in the riding school because I had simply outgrown what they were doing then I found a job at an equine therapy yard and I made the move and it was the best decision I ever made I am currently backing a 12yr old mare who has only ever been a breeding mare and was just offered to buy her and we are going ahead riding schools really are the foundation of it all and I wouldn’t have wanted it any other way now waiting for the purchase of my first horse ❤

I rode at the Spanish Bit as a teenager and absolutely loved it, so good to see Jill again. Such a fantastic riding school with fantastic happy ponies. I spent a day there and loved how the ponies get to the pony barn - they just opened the field gate and they all took themselves to their own stalls!

This is precious! Was in the same boat many, many years ago and am now double (-3 years) your age. I too rode more horses because I was a tall child with long legs versus ponies though I did ride a few that were quite spicey! Like you I rode many equines and on hacks and that was a huge teaching & confidence boaster. I'm like Jill these days, I don't bounce well, and I don't know if I'll ever ride again. Having said that I do get the urge and wonder. Most likely it will be on a mechanical horse. Finally, got my baseball cap from my last riding stable & Dressage Trainer, Anthea. ADORE IT! Will wear it with pride. Sent her some nice thank you pics sporting it with me & my woofers. These are great Vlogs Lucy! Looking forward to the next.

So enjoying this series of vlogs. Think when you haven't come from a horsey family, it's often easy to feel you are the one who hasn't. Thank you so much for sharing your story.

I'm 50 + but I still remember my first ride at the local riding school..... the tickeling in the tummy, the atmospher, the instructor Anja and the first pony Tico! ❤❤ Been riding since I was 7 yo, but bought my first horse Sýn at 36..... Until I bought her, I had several on half- and full loan, and worked at several different stables! ❤❤ Even run mmy own stable for a while...... After Sýn, there have been 4 more horses. I still plan to buy at least one more! Horses are my life!!! ❤❤

I can definitely relate to the excitement when you went for your lesson and ran in to check the list of who’s riding who (albeit 40 years ago!) The best part of the week

I love that the riding school is still there. So many lovely places closed during the pandemic.

Aww that is so nice 🌼I never had the opportunity to get riding lessons. I had to thought myself on quite spicy horses and ponys 😂. Had to learn the hard way😂

Good vlog Lucy, riding schools are a great asset to the community.
Remember spending hours and hours in my local one when growing up.

I love these trips down memory lane! And I completely identify with the story of being afraid of Willow, but coming back the next week. I had parents who did NOT get the horse thing and took me to VERY suspect stables. Hence, I got dumped a LOT and developed a real fear. But did that stop me? Heck no. I would actually have stomach pains before my lessons, but by god I still rode! And eventually I got past it, once I was at a barn with good horses and instructors. What we won't do for horses!

I used to ride a little appaloosa there called compo and a grey called Foggy. I remember being terrified of my riding instructure, not that it stopped me

I don’t think you’re ever too old to ride; as long as you’re fit! 🥳

That would be awesome to see, successful riders who started at riding school. I know some horse owners look down on riding school riders, which is absolutely bullshit. Really enjoy seeing your journey!
