The Keroncong vocal style / Irama Melayu Asli / traditional Malay music is so lovely! This beautiful and difficult vocal style deserves respect and appreciation.
Many people frm the Philippines might not get it as to why we Malaysian adore her so much and why she is still no 1 until today. It's because of THIS. Her ability to sing our traditional numbers very well and together with her popularity she keeps them alive. I often see in yt comments that people frm PH would compare her to many singers frm PH such as Regine et al. I never denied the fact that these singers frm PH they comparing Siti with, the are amazingly talented! PH has some of the most talented singers in the world even I as an Asian am very proud of them they can knock down American singers just like that! But it's not what we are/were looking for in our singers. Here, now or at least during Siti's prime time, the more genres/types of music you can sing, the higher the chance you will be loved by the nation. We were not looking for who can hit the highest note, but who is so versatile to sing our many types of music. And that's how Siti wins our hearts and still leading the way up until now. Sure, you can find much better of the same type in India (Hindustani songs) but to us, SHE IS GOD GIVEN. A NATIONAL TREASURE. And people should really stop comparing her to others. She's just different.
And as if she's not lucky enough with the talent, she has great personality too. Humble, polite and smart, these are the bonus package that makes her even more likeable. And very easy in the eyes too! U know in Malaysia, if today you acting such a Diva, the next day your name will just go down the drain..
I am as same age with siti. She start to be recording artist since 16 years old. Me and one my friend were looking for her cassette in a shop in Tapah, Perak that time. My friend said siti is going to be famous singer and artist. At that time, i denied it. But, since then i become one of her big fan... Until now. Im turn 41 this year. This conversation happened during my younger time. How time flies.
To the malays, 'merdu' is more important than the ability to belt. Meaningful lyrics are a must. Therefore being clear is necessary. And most important, to convey the song with the right emotion.
She is performing a traditional Malay song that originally (if not mistaken) sung by a legendary male singer, the late SM Salim. Many can sing this but as a professional singer, Siti Nurhaliza definitely is the best. That is one of the reason why many people like her. The capability of singing traditional and modern pop song beautifully.

@@chakelat2756 Ernie is a qualified vocal coach. There is even a video somewhere of her singing Pasir Salak on a televised talent competition for kids back in 2002 I think so obviously she would be well acquainted with that vocal style.. i'm sure she, like most of us who grew up listening to Siti, learned it from Siti. I have to say though that while her vocal prowess is undeniable, Siti had the unique ability to bring the songs she sang to life. And that's not easy, especially in a genre such as this. There are a few singers that I can think of who can nail this style relatively well (e.g. Noraniza Idris). I would even go as far to say that her knowledge and understanding of the genre surpasses even that of Siti's whom I consider to be more of a pop/contemporary artist rather than traditional artist (sorry I can't think of a better term for it). But knowledge and understanding doesnt necessarily translate to being better. Siti's naturally sweet and angelic tone - which people used to liken to a Buluh Perindu (a rare mystical object which is said to endow its wearer with an enchanting voice) or a nightingale - would quite literally put anyone who listens to her under her spell. Nephi, I'm sure you get what I mean by that. Her voice has changed and matured over the years so I guess it's not as haunting as or spellbinding as it used to be.
Guyz he meant the vocal techniques. Nephi, the vocal technique she's using is Irama Melayu Asli (Malay Folk Rhythmic). What Nephi had mentioned is a genre, but Dangdut is indeed using the same vocal technique, but pretty much in a modernize version of the vocal. This type of vocal technique were practiced by the Malays in the Nusantara Regions (Indonesia,Malaysia etc). It is formed base on the Middle Eastern (like Arabic,Persian,Indian) & a little bit of Chinese vocal techniques.
